The Flippant Trip - (new TWILIGHT TR update 11/16/09 bottom of pg 29)

OMG where were we?????

Ahhh yes... we had just left DCA and were headed over to DL for the last few hours of our DLR adventure.

I had decided I was really going to take the time to stop and smell the roses this trip as it was a WHOPPING TWO DAYS long! That seemed like an eternity of bliss to this 50-plus-day-trips-as-a-kid DL vet! I wanted to do the Whoopi Goldberg DCA thing.. the Wine and Vine thing.... whoops! Didn't happen. :rolleyes1

I remember my mom making me go see the Lincoln thing and saying it was so wonderful and her favorite bit and all that... Blech. I hated it. I do remember thinking it was probably cool if you were 30 years old :scared:

:rotfl:

I liked America Sings MUCH better (and that was pushing it)...

Wow, I just watched this video and it was REALLY good!

Goodtimes..

So back to the TR.... here's how these stories merge with what we did next..... I made my kids go to see the First 50 Magical Years in (I think) the old Lincoln exhibit hall area.

The lobby of this place is REALLY cool (If you're 30 years old! :scared: ... ha ha ha.. just kidding.. even the girls liked it, at least a little bit. But they know their ole mums is a Disney WRECK when it comes to Nostalgia so they hunkered down and really put forth some active energy to enjoy the whole thing for my sake  They're sweet like that :goodvibes

Ok, now... my saddest thing about DL is that the Bear Country Jamboree is gone :sad1: It wasn't as if I liked it when I was a kid cause I didn't really (waste of time) but I do have the FONDEST memories of sitting in there with my cousins and just tripping out HARD that those crazy bears sung a song about BLOOD in a DISNEY park!

Knott's, maybe.. but DISNEY??? it was TOO good (funny, eye rolling, ironic to a 14 yr old) to be true!

BTW.. my daughter's name is Bailey.. and FOREVER I am singing to her, "BAILEY... BAILEY Crocket.. Queen of the wild frontier..."

Man-o-man I miss those Bears... I'd probably enjoy Lincoln about now, too. :rolleyes1

Anyway... in the lobby there's a cute little tribute to the missing attraction..

Alas, that may be the closest I'll get to my bear country buds for a long time but I was SO happy to see them, none the less. :goodvibes

The movie itself was cute... Donald Duck and Steve Martin.. and really got us into the spirit (even at day 2 my shins were killing me, the heat was a problem, and we were pretty tired from our earlier vacation before the vacation..). When we left the theater, recharched, we found we were entering a parade zone!

Now THAT'S a PARADE!
2008-7SoCalDisneylandDAY2043-1.jpg

I went to college in a small town in southern Oregon. It was MAJOR culture shock for me coming from being a native Californian... the first time I went to a small town parade I almost :faint:'ed! I had been to the Pasadena Rose Parade the year before and of course I grew up at DL where the parades are SO over the top so seeing those Mayberry FLAT BED float monstrosities!.... OH THE HORROR!!! OH THE HUMANITY!!!!! OMG There aren't even any lights! I was disgusted. :snooty:

By the next year, however, my DD's were waving at friends on the floats and the following year we were IN the parade and I grew to be VERY fond of the small town feeling and all that goes with it. :grouphug:

I still love me a Disney parade, though. It's hard to go back once you've seen the best.

We moved through the crowd because as much as I love a parade, I was raised by a thrill-seekin' mama and i was taught that parades mean: NOBODY's IN LINE ON THE GOOD RIDES! :rotfl2:

Actually, we already had FP to SM so we headed that way...here is a REALLY bad shot where I look like my chin has been removed to make room for my tongue and DDC is channeling a vampire in a BIG way!!!

Freaks, Geeks, and Space Blood-Suckers

Because I LOVE me some smiley's I always get to my limit of pics prematurely so:
TBC.... which means "To Be Con't" though I don't know if it means that or not, I just made it up. BTW.. what does KWIM mean????? :confused3 [/COLOR]

The girls had had a really enjoyable experience on Autopia the night before and were anxious to do it again. While this was not MY ideal ride as a kid I was SO happy to see them enthusiastic, imprinting their little minds with Disney Magic in the making pixiedust:

Here we are... smell of gasoline in the air... headed off on the course.

DH is concerned that there are no blinkers. He is prepared to throw a GIANT eyebrow arch anybody who doesn't use a blinker

DDB - Bailey. She looks so sweet! Looks can be deceiving (forshadow)
2008-7SoCalDisneylandDAY2047-1.jpg

So we head on down the road and I'm jerking from left to right, left to right, jerk, jerk, OUCH, OUCH. Why the bumpy road??? Well, because I'm spending the entire time turned around trying to snap that Kodak moment of DDB

Beep Beep!
2008-7SoCalDisneylandDAY2049-1.jpg

When we arrived back at the station my DH was standing on the bridge waving at us and what he saw was me, entering the loading/unloading zone... smiling, happy... CONTENT.. Joyous.... and then behind me he sees this:

WATCH OUT!
2008-7SoCalDisneylandDAY2050-1.jpg

and within seconds she SLAMS into the back of my car and my sunglasses went FLYING!! My DH went from:
 to

:scared1: to

:scared: in one second flat!

:rotfl2:

We were laughing our BUTTS off! Poor DDB.. she was beside herself! I wasn't hurt or anything but I did get a good jarring.. there was another lady on the deck who said to me, "WOW, I saw that..are you OK????" But I was laughing so hard I could barely answer her. It was definitely a "moment"...!

As the sun set I snapped this pretty picture of the Matterhorn. I title it

Dusk

And as the sun sets on Disney, so it must for yours truely... I have a long day tomorrow.

UP next: The Lily Belle!

Thanks to all of you who are still here with me... :grouphug: I really appreciate your reading along.

Yeah! More report! I hope that means your hand is feeling better. You all look like you have such a great time at the park! If I were you, I would be worrying about the vampire tendencies of one daughter and the preview of how the other one's driving might be! Better keep a close eye on those two! ;)

Just guessing... but I am thinking KWIM translates to "know what I mean". I am surprised that came to me this early in the morning!

Nope, my hands are not better but I've been bad and reading/posting on a lot of TR's and ignoring mine (cept for my OT fun!) so I thought I'd better get to it!

Yes, a close eye is DEFINITELY a good idea when it comes to two tweens :magnify: KWIM? <shivers>

Thanks for the definition, that makes sense for sure.

Do you remember America Sings, Marie? I did but I didn't remember what they sung! :lmao: I absolutley loved that video that I dug up. Memory lane... :car:

I'm all caught up & I missed all the reminiscing......sharing of obsessions etc.
Here's the one that I plastered everywhere........

Hilarious SM picture......I think I could examine your daughters tonsils from here. :scared1:

Glad you are back to updating.

It's hard to resist that pull back to posting! But we're glad you're back. Just take it easy.

I am dated enough to remember some of you other references, like I love Lucy and etc, but unfortunately I never got to go to Disneyland until my adult years so I don't get to have any childhood memories of long gone attractions. On the other hand, maybe I am lucky since I don't have to compare attractions and say I liked it better back when...

Disneygrl36, I saw Rick on General Hospital today! Have you been watching him there? Still looks pretty much the same.... just older.

:lmao: Did you already have the Love Boat for the ring tone or did you take it from the youtube link or how does that work??

I really wish I would have seen David Cassidy in that roller skating Broadway-esque thing in Vegas when I was living there... It looked really good!

I was in  with Shaun Cassidy but of course my mom didn't quite "get it" and got me a T-Shirt with the other Hardy Boy, Parker Stevenson :sad2:

:lmao:

I love that somebody shares the "Come Chaka" memory with me... too funny! :hippie:

Sorry, I missed your question before - I think I got the ring tones on my cell company's website. It was 3 years ago, but that's what I think...
Wow! I need a new cell phone!

Lucy just wakes us up in the best mood! We're almost all caught up, thanks to TiVo!

You can be late to the reminiscing party! I'm always in the mood to share obsessions. popcorn:: lol

Rick is still hanging tough, huh? My grandma was an NBC Soap fan so Days of Our Lives and Another World were always on at our place. I'm not a soap fan but I think it's funny that the same characters are STILL on 38 PLUS years later!

No problem! Sometimes I miss complete updates on other people's TR -much less tiny little questions

Fun updater so far, BTW. Funny how Autopia can turn in to so much fun !

One week till MEXICO! Wow, that's so exciting! I've been to Cosumel and it was GORGEOUS.

I hope you will post some stuff!

Melissa

Does anybody know how people make those links that go on the title page of the trip report and go directly to the page of the TR. The thing that helps people ignore the "comments" sections? Just curious...

Cute updates! And I know how to make those links you're talking about... but I have no idea how in the life of me I could possibly explain it to you..... sorry!

Great update as usual. I've never tried Autotopia, but I never would have thought it was as dangerous as it obviously is.;)
I used to watch General Hospital when I was in nursing school, and thought Rick Springfield was the best thing since sliced bread. He was so easy on the eyes. I think that I may have to watch me some GH on Monday and check him out again. Thanks for the memories.

Click on the number of the post you want to link to, then copy that address, go to your title page and type in the title of the post-

Title

Then highlight the title and click on the little globe thing with the links on it. A box will pop up, paste the web address in the box and click ok, or whatever it says.

That should do it!

Hi Melissa! I don't have any idea where I got those letters specifically. I just know I started with those links and ended up there. Once I found them, I saved the letters I needed. So if you want, I could probably email you the "family vacation" letters anyway, if you can't find them. Just PM me if you want 'em. Sorry I can't be more specific, I just browsed and stumbled upon them.

:surfweb: I can relate to that! Actually, I"ll go back to the site and give it a try. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can..... lol

Whew! I've been meaning to get over here and read your trippee, and I finally got a chance tonight cause DH is out of town and I don't have to work tomorrow! That was a lot of reading in one sitting!

I love your report! Your family is so cute, and you look like you have so much fun together! Your wedding photos were so cool! I love that you got married on a pirate ship!

I also enjoyed your trip down memory lane. I must confess, I had a huge crush on Rick Springfield AND the members of Duran Duran when I was a teen! You guys brought back some fun memories!

Looking forward to more!
