Amazing thank you so much. I am 5 months out and i cant wait i am that excited i have sailed the magic and wounder this is my 5th cruise with DCL and oh boy its like waiting for Christmas WOOOOO HOOOOO

Please count me in for the recipe post card exchange. That sounds like a lot of fun. Do we just drop those recipe cards off in the FE's? Or would that be a separate meet? I already feel a little short on time & am afraid I won't be able to make too many meets at certain times. It is so hard to pack in everything that my family wants to do already. I would still love to participate though.

I will volunteer to make up the DOTD trivia sheet. I will just put it together on an 8.5x11 page & kind of design it like a fill in the blank thing. Then we can put answers on magnets on people's doors. We'll need to decide how many questions there should be and then we will only need that many doors to post the answers on. (about 10-15 questions?) Maybe if more people volunteer their doors we could double up with the same answers, that way if one goes missing people still have a chance to find that same answer on a different door. It also wouldn't be too hard to give people multiple magnets. My idea is that I can print the answers on regular paper & we can stick them on business card size magnets (you know that kind that you get for FREE on the front of your phone book? So start collecting those now). I think I already have a bunch of those around. I'm always saving them in case I want to use them for a craft of some kind. Also, for people that want to be involved maybe you could get your hands on some free business card sized magnets & I can email you an answer & you could be responsible to print it out & stick it on a magnet/s on your door? Maybe if I don't make them too fancy or neat looking, people won't be interested in stealing them? So if I create a 10 question quiz & we double up on answers, we will need 20 people willing to keep answers on their doors. That way if for some aweful reason a family can't make it on the cruise, then we still have at least one door with the answer. Some people may even know the answers to the questions, but it will be both fun & educational.

We'll keep working away at all of this and as it gets closer I will know how trivia sheets I will need to print. Any additional input is always appreciated. I never want to step on any toes & I am up for anything. I am willing to work on creating the Day Of The Dead quiz sheet when things get closer & we have decided on how many questions there should be. Then I can get a few emails, through PM's, so that I can get a few opinions on what I come up with. Of course those involved in planning this (including myself) will know the answers & maybe not be eligible for any mega-prizes. I would still like my boys to get some sort of gift (if offered) because I will make them do this quiz on their own so that they will learn from it.

I am also up for doing some sort of photo scavenger hunt. It would be fun. Maybe just a sheet with a list of things to photograph at each port & on the ship. Like certain characters, a beach scene, a funny face, things that can be found in multiple places. My only question on this would be how to show the photos at the end of the hunt. If it were me, using my camera to photograph for the hunt, there could be hundreds of photos between each scavenger hunt photo. So showing them to someone at the end of the contest would be difficult because they would all not be in sequence. Maybe I'm totally not understanding how the photo scavenger hunt would work. I still think it would be fun to maybe see how many characters you could photograph or how many animals on the beach etc... I will defiantly participate, but I will leave the organization up to the experts that have cruised more than I have. :)

Wow i am just loving this site. I see alot of posts about all the extra things the disboard family planes meet and greets gmaes and what not. I guess it is a close nite family. I want to thank those for the warm welcome. I am trying to read just about everything. This time around we are cruiseing with just me and 2 friends we are all in our 40's and well i feel like in child for 2 of us this is not our first DCL cruise and the 3rd well his first after years of talk talk talk about how much a DCL cruise is from others we booked the fantasy OCt 27. so much to ready but wanted to take the time to say hello to our new Disney Family

So over welmed and excited

I don't think we need a meet we should just drop the cards off in the FE's or in the fish for those not doing the FE but doing the recipe exchange.

I think for meets we would have one on the first day maybe just 30-60 minutes and then a way for people to pick up their scavenger hunt prizes. So I don't think they should be too time consuming.

I am interested in the first meet so DD can meet some other kids and want to go to the club. Right now she doesn't want to go to the clubs at all:worried: I am hoping to book a dinner at Remy's and maybe a Palo brunch. Plus I wouldn't mind doing some adult activities like tastings and trivia.

She didn't have a great experience in the clubs on the 3 day cruise. Too many kids and short time so she didn't feel comfortable and I thought the councillors seemed overwhelmed by the kids. I think they said there 1400 on board:hyper:

Your sons are about the same age as she is.

Welcome Jim....does 5th DCL cruise mean you will go up to the next level of the castaway club? ( and DH 3CHEERS4DIS wants to know if you are all packer fans?!)

Disneyorbustcolorado, your ideas for the day of the dead trivia sound great, I'm not sure what the magnets are you are talking about though, it's not something we get given as freebies over here, so I won't be able to contribute to your stash!
I'm not sure what Staceyl0u has in mind with regard to the photos at the end of the quiz, I hadn't thought about there being hundreds of other shots in between the quiz ones! we don't want it to take forever to check peoples answers.....there's a mixology class in the afternoon that hopefully has my name on it (followed by tequila tasting:rolleyes1)
Gilsan, are you thinking along the lines of meeting around sailaway time? it would be great for all the kids to meet up then too, before the kids clubs even get underway, it's always easier to go to a club with a friend:)

Talking of FE's does anyone know if our post holders on the Fantasy are actual fish? just looking at a TR from the Dream and they have seahorses!!!

We hopefully will be seeing you at those tastings if I can get DD in the clubs:rotfl2:

This is really my first time being involved in any disboard events. We booked our first cruise last minute and it was only 3 days so we didn't partake in any of the events.

From what I have seen in other threads the meets are either before the lifeboat drill or just after. I like before so we can still attend the sail away show. I also found that after the sail away show the area cleared out with people heading to dinner or shows. Maybe if we planned the meet for around 3 pm, I think the lifeboat drill is 4:00pm.

We could just pick a spot like the D lounge or a deck.

The first day meet sounds totally do-able for such a short time and we'll have to meet on the last day of course to finish out our contests etc... I'm sure the meets will be planned around meals & shows so that should be no problem and I do expect that we will need to meet up so that we can arrange things for all of the extra things we have planned.

I know my boys would love to meet other kids. My DS (6) is the most outgoing kid you will ever meet. Both of my boys LOVED the kids clubs when we went on our 3 night cruise. We could hardly get them to leave for meals. Just PM me as we get much closer & we'll make sure to introduce the kids meet up.

Docking at Castaway Cay. It was very grey that day, hopefully we will have a much sunnier day

That sounds good.

DD is normally very happy at day camps and other things like that so we were surprised she was so unhappy. She is not super outgoing though and I really thing the clubs were over run with kids.

Oh wow! That took a while to catch up! :rotfl2:

DisneyorBust: In relation to the DOTD questions that sounds fantastic, how big is 8.5 X 11 we do a4 a5 etc sizes over here! I was thinking if each of us did the same size piece of paper I have an idea for presentation for the scavenger hunt which I will pm you and maddiesmum about as I thought it might be nice for everyone to have some surprises with it. :)

In regards to the photos that is a good point I was thinking how we would get round that earlier today but I havnt yet come up with anything, maybe we will have to go with just questions about the ship that people would have to go to certain areas to answer, like what is minnie holding in the entranceway etc, (just an example I don't even know if Minnie is holding anything!) and the collecting things and DOTD trivia?

I agree that a first day quick meet up for the kids and and collecting scavenger hunts would be a good idea, followed by a DOTD meet up to collect prizes and maybe take a group photo early morning. Like everyone keeps saying so much to do let's not over book ourselves this is a 'vacation'!! :rotfl2:

It would be an A4.

Things sound like they are shaping up nicely!

Sorry, my apologies for the confusion in the size that I was going to design the DOTD trivia page in. I forget that sizes are different all over the world. I am ashamed of myself; my kids attend an Internation Bachalorate school because I want them to be good global citizens & learn that there is more to life than one country. (k-I'm over that now) I was just thinking that I would design the trivia sheet in the standard letter size here in the U.S. (which is 8.5 inches wide by 11 inches tall). That way it would be less expensive for me to print. I planned that I would need to print up the copies since I volunteered to do this. Hopefully it will not cost too much, but if anyone has connections for free color prints, I would be happy to create this in ANY size so that it could be printed elsewhere. We will work on these minor things I am sure.

I will watch for PMs

Wow this thread is really moving along !!! what's everyone doing for shore trips ??. We have been to Grand Cayman a few times, (would love to retire there glorious sunshine and NO tax). We are going to go to Sting Ray City, we know Maddy will love it.

Costa Maya, only once way back in 2006, this time we are going to Maya Chan, a private allinclusive beach, they are putting on special party's when the Fantasy is in port.

Cozumel, our 6th visit,we always visit Chankanaab National Park, for some snorkelling !!, then back into San Miguel for some shopping (DW) and cheap cerveza's for me !!.

cheers

Iain.
