Finally getting around to my first ever trip reports!
My travel companions were DH, DS1 and DS2 (ages 10 and 7)
This was my first REAL Disney trip. The only other time I went to Disney was for my honeymoon (and we stayed offsite and although we did Disney things we did other things too) so this was like going for the fully Disney experience for the first time!
Let me preface this all by saying we were actually on vacation from 10 days but we drove from Massachusetts to Orlando so 3 days of our trip was not Disney Magic but rather driving
Day 1 (pre-Disney)
Saturday, March 8, 2003
Got a good start, got the family all in the car and on the road by 4:15 a.m. Phew, just on schedule, great. Fast forward 1 1/2 hours into the ride (just to the border of CT and RI), "hey honey did you grab the bag with the TripTik from AAA and the medicines and things like that" ...... "hey, you didn't grab that?" ..... quick phone call to my parents (who live next door) and my father comes back on the line to say "yup, it is sitting here in your kitchen".....
Thankfully, my dad was kind enough to get in the car and drive until we met on the highway (which we calculated lost us about a 1 1/2 hours....so much for being on schedule
)
That being said, we drove to South of the Border in South Carolina that day and wearily dropped into bed at a Comfort Inn.
Day 2 (pre-Disney) and Day 1 (Disney!)
We got up and on the road by 5:00 a.m. in South Carolina and made good time to Disney except for a fierce rain storm that went from Southern Georgia all the way past Jacksonville (we saw so many spin outs from this and were very thankful to be kept safe!). We arrived at Disney at approximately 12 noon on Sunday!!
DAY 1 of MAGIC
When we pulled in beneath the sign that had Mickey & Minnie and said "Walt Disney World"....well, let me just say, I can't describe how thrilled we were (especially after having been in the car for 24 hours!). Then, we saw "Port Orleans French Quarter" we all but lost it!!!! We couldn't believe it, we were really here!!
Our check-in went quick and smooth (the hotel lobby is beautiful). We went to our room (we got building 5 which we had requested). We were in room 5231. Our room was beautiful, clean, and nice and cool! We got in, unpacked, my husband took the boys down to the pool while I finished unpacking and showered and cleaned up (boy did that feel good!!). I still kept thinking, I'm really here!!!! Once we all got cleaned up we took the bus over to Downtown Disney and had 5:00 PS's at Portobello's Yacht Club (mmmmmm). We had a fabulous meal (and during our meal it absolutely downpoured!!!!). We had a seat by the glass part and really were amazed at how much it rained. By the time the dinner finished so had the rain, we walked through DD (boy is it pretty), the boys loved the Lego creations!! We shopped at the Disney store (bought pin necklaces, gifts for family), etc. Then ended our night at Ghiradelli's and got sundaes, yum! We went to the hotel and dropped to sleep for the night!! It was a great first day!!!!
