The Family That Runs Together...Vacations Together-A May 2012 PTR *5/12

YAY for race day numbers :woohoo:

It DOES make it more real!!

We are bib number 2292 so we'll be in a real late wave probably  I'm sad to say that i probably won't make it to the first EEC 5K group meet up!!! I wonder how they would take it if I suggested a bit later again b/c I'm sure if your time was around 1:19 then mine will be NO better than that and if i start in the 5th or 6th wave i'm closer to 10pm and past 11:15 for my finish.

Are the waves for the EE race random? I thought it was based on times, just like the Halloween 5K.:confused3 1158 sounds like a very speedy number, though!

So exciting!! 1158 sounds like a great number :thumbsup2

I think so...:thumbsup2

Honestly, when everyone suggested an 11:15 meetup time, I didn't think it would be late enough. I mean, if it's anything like last year, if anyone is in Wave 6, they won't leave until 9:55, and if it takes them an hour and a half to finish, then they're past the photo time....But don't count you and your DD out. Alex and I didn't run any of the scavenger hunt portion of the race, which really slowed us down. But, I was wayyyy too tired after the 5K to do more running!:rotfl2:

That is a big mystery to everyone running the race. I'm pretty sure the waves are broken into groups. Single runners get the first wave, all-male teams get wave 2, then co-ed teams fill up the following waves, then the last waves are the all-female teams. But that's just my best guess based on last year and the bib numbers I've seen so far this year. :confused3

1158 sounds good to me! I am a sucker for even numbers ... something about odd numbers just looks "wrong!" ;)

How is your training going? Are you and your mom ready for the 5K?

Getting your bib number and those final race instructions definitely makes it seem real! How very exciting! Those 2 weeks will certainly fly by! I can't wait to read all about the race. I hope that we can do it one day, but that's just a long trip for us just for a 5K! Maybe one day though!!!

I was happy to see that we were an even number, too.:rotfl:

I've been consistent with my training; I just haven't been progressing that quickly. I was sort of hoping to be about 5 minutes faster than I am at this point, but I'm not sweating it.
My mom is a little nervous for the race, she's walking it and is afraid she won't make the cutoff time. She also hates wearing her running shoes. She keeps saying that if she could complete the race in flip-flops, she'd be golden!:rotfl2:

These last few days have gone by so quickly! My trip will be here before I know it!

I can't wait to post about the race. I'm going to take so many pictures this year that way I actually have visuals to show people! Yeah, I could see that being a long drive for a 5K. HOWEVER...May's a great time to go. Moderate crowds, reasonable weather....the race could be an added bonus.:lmao:

1158 sounds good to me! I, too, have a thing about even numbers. I chose my wedding date based on the "sound" of the number. Crazy, I know! ;)

Hey! I think 1158 sounds good too! We're bib 1139 so I bet we end up in the same wave as you! If I remember correctly, I believe that they send all those running as individuals in the first few waves then start sending the teams so I'm sure that's why your mom's bib is so much lower! Either way, I'm getting so excited! I'm hoping to be in Wave 3 at the latest. I think it we start with Wave 3 around 9:40, we can finish around 10:40 with the race and scavenger hunt which would give optimal time at the after party! :cool1:

Not crazy, at all! I think everyone tries out different dates to see if they like the sound of it.:goodvibes

Alex has been hoping for an early wave since we registered. He really disliked being in Wave 5 last year, so he wanted it to be different.
And I agree, the earlier the wave we're in, the sooner we can ride rides!

I am hoping to do an update on my last day's plans later tonight, but I wanted to post all these little things first.

Friday morning Alex and I went to our ITT office on base and finally bought....

ANNUAL PASS VOUCHERS!

:woohoo::cool1::woohoo:

It's official! Alex and I are annual passholders and can visit Disney at any time for the next year. This is our first ever time buying annual passes, and I love it. :goodvibes

After Alex walked out (I danced out...no lie. Felt no shame at all, either.) we went to the nearby mall and bought a new set of luggage. It was kind of pricey, but we've realized with how much we have traveled lately, that we kinda need some new suitcases and bags.

It was a great day, and I can't believe how real the trip is becoming. When I put the new bags in the house, I kept repeating to Alex, "You know, I could start packing now. It'd be completely feasible.":rotfl: Alex talked me out of it, though.

Saturday was not such a good day, though. We had nasty weather. You know, wet, dreary, curl-up-with-a-book-all-day weather. Alex was working a really late shift, and on his way to work he messed up his car. :sad2: So, yesterday we dropped it off at a mechanic and he's been using my car while his in the shop. The mechanic called this morning and said he'd found a slavage yard that had all the parts we needed, but we're not sure when the car will be done.

Aside from the obvious fat paycheck we'll be making to the mechanic, the two of us are more frustrated at the bad timing of this. Of course we would need car repairs the week before we're due to go on a vacation.

As long as we get it back in time for the trip, everything'll be fine, because it'll stink to have to take my car. It's probably the most uncomfortable vehicle to drive long distances in and the gas mileage is terrible.

Right now, I'm going crazy not having a car to go pick up those last minute items I need. I know everything will work out, but man, the time to stress has kicked in! :rotfl:

Like I said, my last day plans will either be up later tonight or sometime tomorrow. :thumbsup2

Congrats on your new AP's. What a great feeling! :cool1:

Bummer about the car. I hope it gets repaired swiftly and you don't suffer from too much sticker shock! :scared1:

Congratulations on getting APs! That is awesome! Your new luggage sounds fun, too. I love any sort of bag, LOL.

That stinks about Alex's car. We just forked over a bunch of money for car repairs, too! Those things always happen right when you're getting ready to go away, don't they? :confused3

Congrats on your AP's! :cool1:

Ugh, sorry about the car! Doesn't it seem like right before a trip things just start to go wrong, I hate that! :sad2: Hopefully you will get it back in time and get to use it for your trip!

Congratulations on being AP holders!! :cool1:
New luggage is fun, I'm due for some new stuff but I keep trying to push "just one more" trip out of my old set! :lmao:
Bad timing with the car. :sad2: It seems things always work out that way. I guess if you had a strong dose of bad (broken car) without the strong dose of good (Disney) it would be too hard to swallow? :confused3 :lmao:

It is a really great feeling knowing we're annual passholders. This'll probably be the only year we'll be able to take enough trips to the world to justify annual passes, so we wanted to do it at least once and see how it goes.

We've been fortunate enough never to have anything major like this happen to us before a trip, so I guess we were due for some bad luck. And I guess it's better it happened beforehand, so now we know we can't blow a bunch of money at WDW....

Congrats on your AP's! :cool1:

I really hope we get the car back in time. My car has to have an award for "most uncomfortable seats on the planet.":rotfl:

I know what you mean about the luggage; we really should've bought these 7 months ago when we went on our cruise. :confused3

That is a good way of looking at the car situation. Since the trip is soooo close, I can barely concentrate on anything else. I think I would be a whole lot more stressed out about the car if I didn't have Disney to distract me. :lmao:

Woooohoooo for being AP holders! That is really stinkin' awesome! I totally don't blame you for dancing outta there!:dance3:

Sooo sorry to hear about Alex's car. That really stinks, and I know it couldn't have come at a worse time. Well, in reality it could've...but it still stinks!!!

Yay for a new set of luggage!:)

Well, I woke up this morning, came downstairs, and was able to change my countdown calender to 9 days!!!

Single Digit Dance!!!!!:cool1::woohoo::cheer2:

Talk about a wake up call. Disney is within my fingertips! And, techinically, I leave for vacation in a week. We're driving down on Wednesday and staying at Alex's parents' house that night and the following day.

Everything is getting so close!!!:thumbsup2

EDIT: Okay, I've tried several times to post the link, but everytime I post it, it cahnges the website to a bunch ****. I've never encountered this before, so I'm not sure what to do. And I sort of think that maybe this is the DISboards way of blocking this page, since it is another planning and tips website, so I just went ahead and took it down. Sorry about that. If I'd known I wouldn't have posted it!

Phew! All caught up! Before I do anything else, I'm doing a single digit dance for you!

:dance3::banana::cheer2::dancer:party:WOOHOO! 9 DAYS!party::dancer::cheer2::banana::dance3:

Your day 6 plans sound wonderful! Nice relaxing day. We discovered Rosa Regale during the Food and Wine Festival one year and I have been a fan of it ever since. It's a yummy, sweet wine.

Outfit spreadsheet? I have never heard of it. Now that I have, I want to do one! We do plan out our outfits for the trips though. I put the kids outfits in gallon bags so that way DH can get the kids dressed without having to stress over what shorts/skirt goes with which shirt.

If your bib number is so much higher than your mom's, will you have to run in different waves?

So sorry about Alex's car! Why do these things happen right before our trips?! I have at least one tire on my van that has a slow leak which we discovered late last week. Hopefully neither of us won't have to spend a ton of money to get our vehicles Disney ready. :thumbsup2

I am so going to go check the 100 Disney Foods to Eat! THank you for posting that!:yay:
