I realized today that my wedding is one month away and it is now or never if I am going to start a planning journal. I have thought about starting one for months but obviously never got arround to it. Reading these planning journals has been so helpful to me and hopefully mine will be helpful to future escape brides.

About us
We are and older couple. I am 42 and DF is 45. We will turn 43 and 46 shortly after the wedding. This is my first marriage and DF second. He has two sons age 14 and 16 who will be his best men at the wedding.

How we met
We met Memorial Day of 1990 so we wave known each other almost 22 years.
We met at a party. He was in town for a wedding for a friend's wedding and I had tagged along with my friend Cheri to a party at his friends house. We saw each other across the room and the rest was a very bumpy history. Long distance relationships when you are 21 and 24 and 2000 miles apart don't usually work out very well and we were no exception. We did part as good friends but drifted apart because of the distance since this was pre internet, texting, skyping etc. A few years later I heard through the grapvine that he had gotten married.
Fast forward to February of 2002 and my phone rings late one night.

The Courtship
So late one night in February of 2002 my phone rings. He showed up on my caller ID as his intitials and last name so I didn't realize it was him untill I heard his voice and then I about fell out of my bed because he was the last person I was expecting to call. He was going through a divorce and I was going through a horrible break up. We started talking again and once again our friendship blossomed. On the surface we are very different but we have very similar believes and values. We met in Memphis in 2003 and had a fabulous time together. I cried the whole plane ride home because our relationship seemed so hopeless becuase of the distance. Neither one of us wanted a long distance and we decided to remain friends.

First Trip to Walt Disney World
In October of 2004 we took our first family vacation to Walt Disney World. His boys were 6 and 9 and had never been. During the planning we kept saying how it was a once in a life time trip because it would be the only time we went. Needless to say we were very wrong and the wedding will be our
6th trip to the world plus one trip to Disneyland.

The move
In 2007 I moved arround the corner from DF. It was a great two years because we were able to be around each other all the time and interact with each other face to face instead of over the phone. Unfortunately in 2009 my father's business expanded and I had to move to Nevada. It was very challenging time for us adjusting to being apart again. We didn't see each other for 9 months until May of 2010 when we vacationed in Disney World.

The Proposal
So in May 2010 we went to Disney World. Before vacation we had talked about getting married before the trip and DF told me he was going to surprise me on the trip. One day we went to Tom Sawyer's Island and he proposed there after we went the wrong way over the barrel bridge.

Why a Disney Wedding
When we got engaged we figured it would be a 5 or 6 year engagement. By that point DF's kids would be out of high school and he would be able to move out West. We had planned our next trip to Disney World during Mardi Gras of 2012 since the kids had 3 days off from school. I went to visit DF for my birthday in April and we started talking and decided we might as well get married at Disney and we should do it when we went in 2012. I looked at a calendar and saw that 2/22 was in the middle of our trip and that seemed like a good wedding anniversary. We decided to have the ceremony at Sunset Point at the Poly because I knew I ever got married I wanted an outside wedding and we liked the setting.

The dress

I am a very lazy and unorganized bride and didn't go dress shopping until October. I put it off because I knew it would be overwhelming for me and I has right. I was on wedding dress overload. I brought my mom with me but she went on wedding dress overload before I did. I managed to narrow it down to this dress and The Cinderella dress. I decided to take a couple of days to think about it but really thought I was going to get the Cinderella. My best friend drove up for my next appointment to help me chose. I tried the above dress on first and immediately knew it was the one so my decession ended up be much easier than I thought it would be. I ordered the dress and they said it would take 12 weeks and should ship on January 13th. This of course did not happen. As of Friday January 20th it status was still showing as being sown. I called the bridal shop and they found out it had been shipped from China but hadn't arrived in their warehouse in Florida yet and they didn't have a tracking number for it. They are suppose to call tomorrow with the tracking number but as of right now my wedding dress is on a slow boat from china. This is causing me some stress because I am leaving for Florida on February 17th which is less than 4 weeks away. They told me alterations would take 4 weeks so I am really praying that I don't need alterations. The dress that I tried on in my size fit perfect but it was strapless. The sample I tried on of my dress was about 4 sizes too small so I have no idea on how it will fit.

I hated dress shopping! Since my mother was a seamstress (after not be satisfied with any dress I tried on) we found a pattern that I liked pretty well and just got the prettiest white fabric that we could find and it ended up being the best wedding dress I could have hoped for (and an experience shared with my mom that I will never forget).

You are very lucky your mother was able to do that. Mine can't sew.

The Wedding Plan

We will be getting married at Sunset Point at 2:22 pm on 2/22/12.
DF sons will serve as his best men. I am not having bridesmaids so it will be just our family at the altar. My friends who would have been my bridesmaid will be attending the ceremony. The 8 guest limit at Sunset Point made my life very difficult. I wanted a small wedding but not quite that small. 4 of my closest friends will attend the wedding and then they and their families will attend our reception and dessert party at Sago Cay. The reception will be from 4:30 to 6:30 and the dessert party from 9:30 to 10:30.
We are using Ron Rosenzweig for the ceremony. Randy Chapman for photography and STVS for video and webcast since we are not inviting family.

This has been a busy wedding week. I mailed the check to DFTW, I sent off the paperwork to get our marriage license, booked my flight to Orlando, made my hair and make up appointment with Beaute Speciale and ordered invitations.
This is what my invitations look like

I also ordered these in lavender to include with the invitations with the information about viewing the wedding online

My wedding colors are blue and lavender.

Your invitations are great! I love how fun and light they look, but still very wedding. Very pretty! Look forward to watching things progress =)

Your dress is beautiful, sorry you're having to go through so much stress with it.

I really like your invitations, they look so fun and tropical, perfect for your location.

Thank you for the compliments on the invitations. I really like them. My word for the wedding is whimsical and I think they fit that.
I don't have a dress update yet. I was going to call the store today but it was one of those days at work so I never got arround to it. I am dreading calling because I am scarred they are going tell me my dress is still on the slow boat from china and they don't know when it will get here.

I think yours is one of the sweetest love stories I've read on here, and I will be following along to see how things progress with the wedding. I'm getting married the day before you at SBP, and I have to say, even with the dress, I'm amazed at how calm you are about the wedding. I'm trying hard to be that way, too.

It's so funny that you wanted to get married on Mardi Gras - we picked our date and *then* I noticed it was Fat Tuesday. Our wedding color is purple, so there may be some beads showing up at some point (and they will be handed out, no need to "earn" them in the traditional way, please).

Good luck with the dress, and keep us posted!

Wedding Ceremony Plan

So the plan is for the ceremony to start at 2:22 pm on 2/22/12. DF sons will serve as his best men and 4 of my closest friends will attend the ceremony (plus one of my friend's girlfriend) for a total of 9 people. My nephew may also come which would bring it up to the maximum number of 10 people.
I will walk down the aisle to Canon in D
the music for the sand ceremony Somewhere Over the Rainbow
the recessional music will be Bippidi Boppidi Boo
the first dance will be Love me Tender

The sand ceremony will include DF sons along with myself and DF. I still have to find out what color of sand the boys want to use but DF and I will have blue and lavender.

We are having a Mad Hatter cake. This is the picture I sent as an example
Happily-Ever-After-200x300.jpg

This is a picture of a DIS brides cake I saw on the boards (sorry I don't remember who it was) Ours will only be 2 tiers since we won't have more than 20 people at the reception.

Thanks Susan! Mardis Gras should be a fun day to get married. We are actually getting married on Ash Wednesday which is the start of Lent so I tease DF telling him instead of 40 days of sacrafice he is getting a lifetime.
I think I am so calm about the wedding because I never really thought I would get married until we got engaged. DF always said he was never getting married again and I never had a big deseire to be married. I am pretty non traditional and DF and I had always planned on being together into our old age but just not be married. After I moved to Nevada I think DF and I both felt the need to be connected in a more traditional and legal sense. I know some people say getting married is just a piece of paper but for me it is declaring to the rest of world this is the person I want to spend the rest of my life with.

I have always found it helpful to see other peoples BEOs so here is an abbrieveated version of mine since I can't figure out how to cut and paste it
