I have always enjoyed reading the fabulous trip reports posted here on the DIS and wished I could capture our magical trips in words the way so many of the poster here do. I have always felt it would be a wonderful souvenir to be able to go back and revisit memories of Disney vacations years later through trip reports. I started writing a trip report of our vacation in May 2006 but 10 months later I am only half way through. I never posted it on the DIS because my grand plan was to post it all at once. This year I thought I would try a different tactic and start with a pre trip report.

My traveling party consist of

Me fairy godmother (almost 38)

My dear best friend S  (41)

S DS #1 Pirate Guy or PG pirate: (11)

S DS #2 Surfer Dude or SD :joker: (9)

We will be arriving at WDW May 27th after staying 4 nights at the Hard Rock Hotel at Universal. We will be leaving June 3rd.

This will be are 3rd trip to WDW together and supposedly are last trip until the boys are both in high school. I say supposedly last trip because that is what we say every time we go. The boys in high school part was just added this month. Here is a little background to explain how we got to this point.

S & I met at a wedding 17 years ago and actually dated long distance for a few months before figuring out that long distance relationships don't really work when you are 3000 miles apart and neither person really wants to move. We remained friends but drifted apart after a year or two because life just kind of moves along and people go in different directions.
Fast forward to 2002 and my phone rings late one night. It was S he was going through a divorce and needed some one to talk. I myself had just been dumped. It was a horrible relationship but it still sucked to be dumped in the way I was. So we bonded over our sorrows and some how wound up as best friends.
In March 2003, S & I met up in Memphis for a week end and had a great time. The next year we started talking about meeting up again and somehow came up with the idea of taking the boys to WDW since they had never been. This was the spring of 2004 and Disney had a code out for the fall of buy a 5 night package and get 2 nights free. So after much discussion we decided on 2 connecting rooms at the Wilderness Lodge. I discovered the DIS and TGM and did an adequate planning job. We had a good time but it was a little awkward because it was the first time I had met the boys. Walking out of Epcot after Illuminations on our last night we were very sad and decided to return to WDW one more time. I wanted one more chance to plan the perfect vacation.
So we were back in WDW May 2006 for our " last time at Disney so lets do it up right" vacation. It was day 3 of the trip and we were lounging at the volcano pool at the Poly when S and PG out of no where decided we need to come back next year for one last time at Disney.

So this is how I came to start planning this vacation while still on our last vacation to WDW.

Although we don't leave for another 2 months I just changed our hotel reservations for the 4th time this week. While at WDW last year we decided to go for 6 nights at the Poly with the DDP and then 4 nights at the Hard Rock Hotel because the boys love the roller coasters at Universal. On July 2nd I made our first reservation for the trip 6 nights at the Poly and 4 nights at the HRH. I called back in August to change our room only ressie to a package once the rates were released.

Now I must confess I love Walt Disney World and think Universal is just ok and if I had my way we would only stay for a night or 2 so that we can have FOTL and rent a cabana by the pool. The boys however love the thrill rides at Universal and wanted to stay longer there then the 3 nights we spent last trip. So now we had scheduled 6 nights at Disney but the first night we wouldn't be arriving until 9 or 10 at night since we had decided all of us would make the 9 hour drive from S's house together. This really was not working for me so I started scheming to change our plans.

November rolls around and TGM release his best park days. I realize we will only have one green day at Magic Kingdom plus the morning we were leaving. This was just not acceptable and I realize it is my opportunity to get the extra night I want at Disney. So I talked S into changing our reservations so that we arrived at WDW a day early. We now had 7 nights at Disney and 3 nights at Universal.

We are very fortunate to be stay concierge at the Poly so mid November the IPO made all of my ADRs for me. It was Thanksgiving and I was thankful because I thought my planning was done. Once again I was wrong.

For our last night we had an ADR for Teppenyaki in Japan. I thought we were so lucky because we would be there right when it reopened from its renovation. One January evening I logged on to the DIS and saw a post that the renovation had been postponed and they would now be closed during our stay. I was now faced with way too many dining choices. I was on dining overload. I must say we love the DDP because we are eaters and we more then get our moneys worth from it. However it is sometimes a daunting task to chose 6 restaurants that you will want to eat at 6 months from now. When our Teppenyaki ADR was cancelled I was fresh out of ideas of where to eat. I turned to the DIS for advice and they suggested Spoodles. I checked out the new menu and there seemed to be something for all of us on it so I emailed the Poly IPO to make us an ADR for Spoodles. Once again things were right in my Disney planning world.

Alas it was not to last. Last year S's friend K joined us for a day so he and S could play golf and then we all went to MK that night. K was joining us for a day again this year. S & K decided they wanted to play golf on the course with the Mickey Mouse bunker (the Magnolia). When I tried to make a reservation for the Magnolia I found out there were no tee times for that day so S & K were going to have to play the Palm. At this point thing were right in my Disney planning world. We were 70 something days away from our trip and I had it completely planned. Of course my joy was not to last.

Yeah! :cheer2: My first poster. My pretrip report is now offical :cool1: .
I am working on the next installment. I should have it posted this afternoon.

Monday night S :cool2: calls me with the dreaded "we have a problem" phone call. Fortunately his problems are never very hard for me to solve. K was not going to be able to take time off mid week to come down and play golf with S. The only day K could play was Saturday. Unfortunately we were arriving on a Saturday and departing on a Saturday. S then says why don't we just leave on Sunday and play golf on Saturday. Just a little side note S loves to pretend he doesn't like Disney even though deep down he loves it as much as me. He often refers to me as the Disney Nazi as I herd our group off to the next ride or ADR. However he does appreciate that we never have to wait in long lines. So it kind of shocked me when he said to add another day on.

I had to wait until the next morning to call since Disney reservations close at 7;00 pm Pacific time. I did send an email to IPO to try to get them a tee time at the Magnolia course and switch ADRs around since K would now be joining us on a different day. That is one of the main reasons I love staying concierge and am willing to pay extra money for it. I just send them an email and they take care of it. I don't have to get up at 4:00 am to try to make reservations for anything. I also love the lounge and the waking up to a view of Cinderella's Castle put that is a whole other story.

So get up early and call Disney to add a day. Even though I have priced it online actually hearing them say how much more it is for one night makes me swallow my tongue :faint: a bit. So it is all set! We are now going to Universal for 3 nights and WDW for 7 nights. Life is good! Unfortunately life is just not that simple in the fairy godmother's world. My conscious starts nagging me. S :cool2: PG pirate: & SD:joker: love the thrill rides of Universal. They love Disney more but it just doesn't have quite enough of an edge for them. We are leaving for Orlando the last day of school. The boys have early dismissal and we will pick them up from school and hit the road.:drive: This means we won't get to Orlando until 9 or 10 that night. Then one of our days at HRH we are renting a cabana and hanging out by the pool :beach: . So that means they will only really have a day and a half to get their thrill ride fix. My guilt gets the better of me. I call S from work Wednesday afternoon and share my thoughts. He tells me he will call me back later after he asks PG and SD what they want to do. He calls me back on my way home from work and says to make the change. The best part about the last change is that it actually saves us some money. I checked online and Universal had a deal that if you stayed 4 nights you got 2 tickets free. Now we only have to buy 2 tickets instead of 4.

Our plans are now set in stone (hopefully). Since I am sure Disney now has my phone number on a list of vacation planners who keep changing their minds. I forgot to add that I had to call then in January to add the code for the free park hopper and water park tickets. I am very good at Disney math - spend thousands to save a couple hundred. :teacher:

If you have not kept up with my long rambling story of who to change your reservations several times here is the final version

Leave Wednesday afternoon once PG pirate: and SD:joker: get out of school. Arrive at HRH late Wednesday night. Arrive at WDW Sunday morning. Leave the following Sunday sometime in the afternoon.

Now all I have left to do for the transportation part is make my airline reservations to S's city. I am so glad I have procrastinated on them so I don't have to pay a change fee.

In my next installment I will list our ADR's also know as how to eat your way through WDW! :woohoo:

Thursday night I was getting a little worried because I had not heard back from the Poly IPO about the tee time and our ADR changes. I had sent them 2 emails this week and was afraid they were ready to fire me as a customer since I kept making changes and my second email was an email saying disregard the first one because I want to change more. Friday morning I got an email back with all the changes requested and once again life was good. However it is a good thing I am doing this pre trip report because I reread the attachment and realized the had the number of people is wrong on our Saturday ADRs

As it stands now I have all our ADRs made but I still need to go back and change around our daily itinerary due to our moving our arrival and departure day.

Day 1 Sunday

5:30 pm 50's Prime Time Cafe

Day 2 Monday

5:30 pm Alfredo's

Day 3 Tuesday

7:40 pm Kona Cafe

Day 4 Wednesday

6:15 pm Crystal Palace

Day 5 Thursday

7:40 pm 'Ohana

Day 6 Friday

8:00 Illumination Cruise

Day 7 Saturday

8:00 am Kona Cafe for S & K

10:00 am golf for S & K

5:30 pm Liberty Tree Tavern (K is coming with us)

So this is how we plan to eat our way through Disney TS. For breakfast we will grab snacks in the concierge lounge and for lunch will do CS at whatever park we happen to be in. The DDP has spoiled S:cool: PGpirate: & SD :joker: because now when they go out to eat outside of Disney they think they need to order appetizers!

Every true Disney planner changes their plans mutliple times. I think it's a rule or something. Sounds like you have a great trip planned.

Work really gets in the way of my Disney planning. This is our tentative daily itinerary. Sorry they are written in my thought process and not complete sentences.

I would like to see Beauty & the Beast and The Little Mermaid but I am sure I will be outvoted

Dinner ADR at 5:30 for 50s Prime Time Cafe

We may or may not stay for Fantasmic. We have seen it twice, hate lines and aren't doing the Fanatsmic dining package this trip but we might go to the second showing of it at 10:30.

That is what I have so far. Now comes the hard part of figuring the rest of the trip out.

My trip planning is not going so great at the momment. I have 2 different plans for Monday and I can't decide which would be better.

Option #1
Typhoon Lagoon for EMH. Do shark reef first. Then Crush 'n' Gusher and then other big slides. Stay until arround 12:30 or 1:00.
Back to the Poly
Have lunch at Captain Cooks
Leave for Epcot about 4
ADR at Alfredo's at 5:30
FP Malestrom
I think I will go see the movie in France and the American Adventure. The boys hate stuff like this so they won't want to go and it will be a nice break for me
We might stay and watch Illumination
Option #2
arrive for rope drop
send FPV to Soarin'
Soarin'
Nemo
Turtle Talk
send FPV to Test Track
meet rest of group to ride Soaring' with FP
ride MS if stand by line isn't too long
If it is close to 11 go to WS
ride Malestorm
ride redone El Rio De Tempo in Mexico
eat CS lunch somewhere
get FP for green side of MS
ride Test Track with FP
Ellen's Universe of Energy
Spaceship Earth if line is short
MS with FP
Club Cool
Character Connection
movie in France
American Adventure
5:30 ADR at Alfredo's
back to Poly after dinner for relaxing evening
Of course which one we do on Monday effects what we will do on Tuesday so I also have 2 different itineraries for Tuesday that I will post soon.

These are the tentitive plans for Tuesday

MGM
arrive for rope drop
ride RR & TT get FP to ride again later
Star Tours
MuppetVision 3D
Backlot Tour (S and the boys have never done this)
lunch

After lunch we have 3 options

Option #1
go to Typhhon Lagoon (if we didn't do this yesterday)
stay until 6:30 or 7:00
7:40 ADR Kona Cafe

Option #2
go to DisneyQuest
7:40 ADR Kona Cafe

Option #3
go back to Poly and hang out at the pool

My guess today is that we will do option #1 but who knows what we will actually chose to do that day

The countdown is now at 44 days until we leave for Florida and 48 days until we arrive at WDW:cool1:
I am almost done with our detailed daily plans so I will be able to start changing them all around soon. I will also soon start freaking out about what to pack
Day 8 Wednesday
Finally one week into our trip we will arrive at the Magic Kingdom! If I had to bet though I would say will will sneak over before today and FP the mountains.

Once again I hope to arrive for the rope drop. My group tends to be night owls and they hate getting up early but I think I taught them last year how much more we get done when we get to the parks early.
FPV to Space Mountain for FP
Space Mountain
Buzz Lightyear
Winnie the Pooh
Peter Pan
go to Frontier Land FP Splash Mountain
BTMR
Splash Mountain
POTC
eat lunch somewhere
Huanted Mansion
Mickey's PhilharMagic
back to Poly to hang out by pool
ADR 6:15 for Crystal Palace
FP Space Mountain Splash Mountain BTMRR or wait in stanby line if not too long

I like to make a list of the rides we want to try to ride that day because it keeps my group more focused and we get more done. I don't know why I make such detailed plans 44 days before we leave. I guess so that I have time to change them several times before we get there. Oh well only 4 more days left to plan and one of those is depature day.
