The FABIO Look (Long Hair) vs. The GQ Look (Short Hair) Ladies, which do you prefer?

This was a bigger deal back in the 1980s. There were the girls that loved guys with long hair, ala Bon Jovi (Rock Star / Fabio look), and some girls that hated guys with long hair, because they thought they looked like bums/criminals/bikers, or whatever the particular reason the dislike was routed in. I had long hair in the 1980s and also remember being........I'll just say "picked on" by certain........I'll just say hard core southern type views (I won't use the term with neck in the end) that thought that if you had long hair you were gay or transgender (Not that there's anything wrong with that) and would hurl slurs in that regard towards you.

Ladies what I want to know, that in your ideal world what do you prefer? Would you prefer the Fabio look? Do you actually prefer the Fabio look but in real life actually have the GQ looking guy, because you think its more professional, more business, more adult? Do you have the Fabio guy and don't care what others may think? Or anywhere in between, would like to hear your thoughts and why.

I haven't seen the pics of him with short hair.

Ok, here goes. I like long hair on some guys and short on others. What I don't like is what I call "pretty boys" Think make strippers. I want men to look like men, which is why I never went to a male strip show.

Fabio with long hair was a pretty boy, IMHO and I found him completely unattractive. My type of man is Georg Clooney. Handsome, but not pretty.

Here's what I'm attracted to (just by seeing):

Men who look like they love women (you can just see it in their eyes), don't take themselves too seriously, have somewhat of a sense of style, smile lines around their eyes, and are not overly groomed (I definitely like clean men, but I hate it when their hair doesn't move, they look like they get a haircut every week, and their clothes are perfectly fitted with nary a wrinkle or piece of lint).

If I had to choose between Fabio and GQ guy, I'd choose GQ guy every time.

ETA: I don't necessarily mind long hair, but I'm not necessarily attracted to it, either.

In the 80s and 90s I used to love the long hair/ hairspray band look but now I think it's outdated. When I see a guy with long hair it's kind of sad like an older guy trying to hang on to his youth or stuck in a rut. There are very few guys who can pull it off and even then its usually very natural and all one length. The hairsprayed bullet proof mullet fabio used to sport is thankfully a look of the past.

My youngest brother has grown his hair out over the last few years and now it's down past his shoulders. My mother hated it at first and kept trying to get him to cut it, but now we are all used to it. The bad part is that now you can tell his hair is really thick and pretty - completely wasted on a boy!

Amen. I have a friend who's in his mid-40's. He's been in bands for the past 30 years or so, and he can still carry the "long hair" look. And I'm SO jealous because his hair is thick, long, brown, and slightly wavy. Absolutely gorgeous, what any girl would've killed for.

But I like when men have short, but not TOO short, hair. Maybe the back falls somewhere around their collar.

I am a girl of the 80s My DH has longer hair than me.
Thought NOT the 80s look
It is wavy/curly and he wears it either in a ponytail for work,
he's a programmer for a software company, or
pulled back on top on the weekends.

He dosen't get any flack for it but he's a 6'2" muscular
200lb basketbsall player, that could be the reason. He's
a nice looking guy and I see women of my age group looking
at him often. That's us in my Avatar, I hate the way his shirt is
poofed out on the front though it makes him look heavier
than he is.
ETA That's his hair hanging between us, mine is the shoulder length you can see on my
right shoulder.

I tend to be attracted to me with long hair but still
appreciate good looking men with short hair. For instance
I still think jon Bon Jovi is hot with his longish hair and I
lusted after Bailey Chase with his short hair the whole time
he was on Saving Grace.

My husband has long hair (past his shoulders) as well as a full beard (he seriously looks like most images of Jesus). Yes, he's a part time musician. I am generally not a fan of short-haired clean-shaven guys. All in all, I guess a unique-looking guy will catch my eye wayyy before a pretty boy will.

I will tell this quick story: once when ds was little, he saw a picture of Jesus on our dresser, and he pointed to it and said "Dada?"

So true, one of my best friends is like this. He sang in our band back in the 80s. He still has his hair long, just like 1988, still thinks he can sing great (he really can't too drunk, very good when sober, but never is) and he still thinks, acts, and talks as if he were 21 years old. (He'll be 50 soon.) To me that is sad. Now if you want to keep your long hair at age 50 that's fine, but he just totally has the exact same mind set he did when he was 21 years old, and its just kind of funny to watch.

Long hair!! :swoon: DH also has long,thick, curly hair that I would steal and glue to my ow head if I could. He's also got a beard and I think it's rugged and manly ad is sexy as all heck!! Must go cool down now.

I've loved DHs hair that's more than half way down his back for years but since Steven Tyler has been on American Idol I've been trying to get him to cut it to just below shoulder length. So far he won't budge.

I know! It's wasted on him! My hair is pathetically thin, but we have about the same hair color. He's thinking about getting a job at Disney so he'll have to cut it.
