I know this question gets asked a ton but I am asking again, which resort would you pick for my family? We are a family of 5 (hoping to be 6 by the time we go in October of 2013) It will be me, DH, DS (6), DS (5), DD (3) and hopefully a new baby (maybe 6-8 months). We want to make this a great vacation so price is NOT the most important factor, but if it isn't worth it to spend the extra $, I would gladly put it to better use. I would like the most convienent transportation wise (4 kids and all :))but this is our first ever trip to WDW and I am not sure where we will spend more time so maybe a more central location would be better then closer to MK but I don't know :confused3 We will probably be in Orlando for 11 nights but part of that time we will be at RPR at Universal (I am thinking 3 nights). I would love to hear your opinions on what would be best for our family. TIA

Have you considered renting points and staying at a dvc resort? A 2 bedroom would be great for your family.

Since you mentioned that price is not the most important factor, I would seriously consider a Villa. You would have a nice amount of space, the washer/dryer, a kitchen area if you want to use it (but doesn't mean you have to cook on vacation!), separate sleeping areas. There is more information about this at WDW.com. Hope you have a great vacation!

I would stay at one of the monorail resorts, for the easiest transportation. With the age range of your children, you would probably want to head back to your hotel in the afternoon for a nap.

I completely agree with this suggestion! Perhaps you should look into villas at BLT (Bay Lake Tower @ the Contemporary Resort) since that is the only DVC property located so close to the MK. I guarantee that your kids will want to spend most of their time at that park and will appreciate the monorail as well!

If not BLT, I would recommend the Beach Club Villas. Although it is not close to MK, it is within walking distance (or boat) to both Epcot and the Studios-- plus, it has the best pool in WDW for your kiddos to enjoy!

Those would be my two suggestions. You can purchase a villa through Disney directly and pay rack rate prices, but I much more highly recommend going through a DVC member-- much less expensive! We just rented through David's DVC rentals and it has been incredibly easy and efficient.

Let us know if you have any other questions and congratulations on your planned new addition! :)

If you can't get a villa I'd consider the Poly. The rooms are large and your family will fit!

would go with the new AoA - it sleeps 6 - it is a value most suites hotel.

it would only share with pop - if it shares at all. the buses go the park no stopping along the way.\

when I love the DVC resorts (am member) and the Polyn is wonderfully - all deluxe resorts share buses for the parks not in walking or boating distance from them.

you say the best transportation - so AoA or Pop.

If price is not an option, I would say a villa @ BLT by renting points here. Plenty of room, kitchen, washer/dryer and monorail transporation to MK and the other 2 monorial resorts

If you are looking for a deluxe resort - central location I would go with the Beach Club. Within walking or water taxi distance to both EPCOT and DHS.
Great sandy bottom pool (water park like complex) a character breakfast on site and walking to distance to all the great EPCOT restaurants.

My second pick would be the Polynesian - large rooms and on the monorail. Another added benefit being able to watch the castle from the beach. Only negative thing I can think of for the Polynesian is that the pool is much smaller than the BC/YC pool.

Happy planning!

Thank you all for your replies! I have been looking at the Poly and WLV and BV, but I just am not sure. I keep going back to POR-AB, there is something about it that I love. Am I crazy for thinking my family would love it there?

With 4 kids I think POR will probably be quite tight especially if you add a pack n play for the baby. IF by chance you don't have a baby before then then I think it's a great choice. When ours were little we liked POR a lot but now as all disney adults it's just too cramped for us now. We like our space.

What about AoA family suite or a Cabin at Fort Wilderness? A couple of other options for a bigger family

POR is near DDD. It's a long way from Mk or epcot. You would also need two rooms. I would go with the Poly. The Poly has the largest rooms, and the best pool for children under 7. You have the monorail to Mk and Epcot which makes it easy with a stroller. You can also watch the fireworks from the beach. No need to fight the crowds with 4 kids. WlV and BV are great choices, but more expensive. I think your family would have no trouble fitting into a room at the Poly. There is 2 queens, a day bed, and plenty of room for a pack and play.

I hear you all loud and clear about the space issue. Obviously I know I can do what I want but am going to throw my thoughts out there to see if it would sway you into thinking it wouldn't be an issue. If there is a baby with us, (s)he will sleep with my husband and I, we usually co-sleep until the child is a year or so anyway, (no pack and play needed). My boys typically share a bed and my daughter could have the fold out bed. I know I said I am concerned about transportation, but I will carry the baby in a wrap, no stroller necessary (though we may rent one onsite if/when the kids get tired.
Does that change anyone's opininon?

I still think POR would be too small..this is coming from somebody that loves POR. Seems you'd have the sleeping arrangements down but after luggage and just STUFF there's not a lot of room left over. There's hardly no storage now in the AB rooms from what I've read. I have NOT visited since the renovation but from the photos and a couple trip reports it seems to be just the 2 drawers under the murphy bed and a suitcase space near the vanity area.

Of course you can choose to stay where you want it is YOUR trip but you really want everybody to enjoy it and be able to relax too.

I personally like I said would take advantage of the space at the Poly. Can't beat the transportation and it will be one of the only times you can stay there together with your whole family while your baby is under 3 without needing 2 rooms.

If you don't care about all of you being in the same room, I think the Poly would be a good choice. Or POFQ would be fine if that appeals to you. If you'd prefer to have separate rooms so that the kids can nap or go to bed early, I'd go with AoA or rent a villa at BLT or VWL. We loved WL when we stayed there, but the buses did share with other resorts, and sometimes (not often, but it did happen in the off-season) they were so full we had to stand. That would not be very manageable with your family. My sister stayed at POP and usually beat us to the parks. Every resort has its benefits and disadvantages, and if you're not sure which parks you'll be in most, it really is a toss-up. Chances are you'll enjoy any of them!

I'll add another vote for the Poly. You just can't beat the boat ride to MK, and with your kids being so young I'm sure you'll spend a lot of time there.
You mentioned three nights at Universal... You didn't expand on your plans, but that seems like a lot based upon your kids' ages at the time of your trip.

Thank you for your honest feedback. It is much appreciated. You are right I want everyone to be comfortable.

Thank you.Yes, I am sure MK will be where we spend the most time. I haven't really looked into Universal a whole lot, but my DH and I are both huge fans of HP so I was wanting several early entrys to the WWoHP. My boys love marvel and Dr. Seuss so I thought those areas would be great for them. What would be your suggestions?

We (DH, DS9, DD7, DS4 and me) went for our first trip in June 2011. We spent seven nights at the Poly. We did three days at MK and one each at AK, HS, Epcot, and Universal. We had only two days scheduled at MK, but we had one day at the end that I left open. I assumed we'd go back to Epcot or HS, but we ended up going back to MK.

As far as Universal goes, that's a whole other thread! But I'll share my experience. My general advice to people with small kids is to skip it. But A) I only went one day, split between the two parks, so I'm not an expert, and B) for some families it could work. You have a nice long vacation, so maybe just doing mornings there and afternoons napping and at the pool might work for you.

We hope to go back in June 2013 and plan to spend a couple of nights at the Royal Pacific before or after WDW. You have that part right... if you are going to go to Universal, stay on site, and get the express passes and early entry!

Universal is not geared to families in the way that WDW is. At WDW, there will be a lot your whole family can ride and do together, including the baby, if you have one. At Universal, there is some stuff for little kids, but there is much more that kids can't do. At 40", my DS4 had pretty much one roller coaster at each Disney park he couldn't ride on. (And Mission Space at HS, but that ride has the most awesome exit area to play in he didn't even realize he missed the ride.) We could warn him that there was just this one ride he couldn't ride, do the rider swap, and move on to fun for the whole family. No kid wants to sit around through rider swaps! At Universal, most of the "kids" rides have height restrictions. He couldn't even ride the log flume/river raft rides. We spent a LOT of time split up at Universal, so it was less of a family day.

WWoHP is amazing, but it's small. Our main reason for going to Universal was DS9 and DH have read all of the books and are huge fans. But, most or all of your kids won't be tall enough to ride FJ and none can ride DD. My youngest loved FoH and rode it three times, but I was able to ride with him without worrying about switching off a baby.

The Spiderman ride is AWESOME. But you will have to rider swap on this too. The theming of the area is really cool, but the other rides your kids won't be able to ride.

The Suess area is very well done. With express passes, you could hit all of the rides in less than an hour then and hit the play area. The play area, and at least one of the play areas at Studios Florida, include water. We hadn't dressed for this, so we skipped them.

I hadn't done much research into Universal. The plan was to RD Harry Potter, and beyond that we didn't have a plan. We obviously liked it, since we are planning to return, but our next visit will be much better as our youngest will be able to ride more, and I know what I'm doing. Like I said, my general advice would be to wait a few years, but it could work out great for you, IF you know what you're getting yourself into.

Great & Helpful post for anyone with young kids!!!

I would say any villa for the amount of people BLT would be my number one choice if price was not a factor for me
