HERE IS THE LINK TO THE DYNAMIC DIETING DUO'S FOOD REPORT

Hello all WDW food lovers, or just plain WDW lovers! Welcome to my first ever Disney (pre)trip report! I'm soooo excited because in 15 days, we'll be in WDW! Yay!!! *cue round of cheering and whistling*

First and foremost, let's start with our cast, the Dynamic Dieting Duo: your host Yummy (32) (on right), and my DGF Marielune (33) (on left).

cast.jpg

We've been together 8 years, and will be celebrating our anniversary in WDW, August 28th (wasn't planned that way). We have no kids, so we can go to WDW commando style if we want, and can stay away from anything shapped like a nugget. We're not big planners: there are things we really want to do or places we really want to eat at, plan around that, and go free-style from there. DGF and I are on a diet, somewhat... Well, mostly her. Since January this year, she's lost a whopping 45 pounds! *cue applause* The dietician's been helping us cut back on fat and starches, got us eating more veggies and proteins, etc. I haven't been so good with the diet, and only lost like 5 pounds. I guess you can say I have less to lose on this trip

This will be our third 7-day trip to WDW... IN 15 MONTHS! Yeah, neither of us ever got a chance to go to WDW when we were kids. Ever since we've been togheter, we'd say things like "One day, we'll go to WDW". You know, the kind of thing you say just to feel like you have plans, but just end up procrastinating about for years? Well, in May 2009, we finally went to WDW, and from then on, we were hooked! We went back in December 2009, and had a fabulous time. Frankly, The Master Plan was not to go back until May 2010, when we're supposed to go with my parents. But we didn't quite know what to do during our Summer vacation, and figured it wouldn't cost us much more than a week traveling somewhere new. And we know WDW will not dissapoint, so why not?

We may be the Dynamic Dieting Duo, but we're also kind of boring and predictable : we're staying at All-Star Music for the third time, and will be on the QSDP for the third time too, so we know the tune. But you know what they say: when it ain't broken, don't fix it!

So, what's the plan for our upcoming trip? Well, not much is planned per say: that's the beauty of the QSDP! We just couldn't deal with a bunch of ADRs, we have trouble enough planning our week around one ADR! So, here's the places we're sort of planning on eating at from August 21st to 28th :

Les Chefs de France (Monday August 23rd, lunch)
It's our only ADR. We're really just going to see Remy. Seriously. Don't laugh. We may only eat a breadstick and leave. Or maybe not, they do have creme brulee and profiterolles. OK, so we may eat a bite. Or two.

The rest of our meals will be in CS locations, including many returning favorites like :
All-Star Music food court (most breakfasts, and some lunches)
Wolfgang Puck Express
Starring Rolls
Tangerine Cafe
Sunshine Seasons
Yak & Yeti (not sure though, with the recent menu changes...)
Kringla Bakery
Cosmic Ray
Columbia Harbour House

As well as brand new places, such as:
Port Orlean's food court (gotta try the beignets!)
Polynesian's Captain Cooks (gotta try the Tonga toast!)
Animal Kingdom lodge's food court (zebra domes!)
Cookes of Dublin (gotta try the Doh bars!)
Earl of Sandwich (we always mean to go, and never get around to it)
Boulangerie Patisserie
Peco Bill's
Typhoon Lagoon/Blizzard Beach

I plan on taking pictures of EVERYTHING we'll eat. Yep, all 28 CS meals, all 28 snacks. Well, we do eat a fruit cup every morning, so I may use the same picture every day. But you get the idea. People often neglect snacks in their reviews, but since the QSDP is chock full of snack credits, we may as well take full advantage of it!

So, hop on, make yourselves comfortable, and see you all in September for our complete food report!

Oh am i subscribing or what, we are tryng QSDP for the first time in Nov and are staying at POFQ.
You are going to loads of places i want to try, so can't wait for your trip to arrive, i am desperate also to try Tonga Toast, so was planning Captain Cooks, Also the AK Lodge CS (The Mara?)

Will look forward to you coming home (sorry!) and start writing

Ali

Love it! You guys sound like DH and I. "Let's just go one more time before we have kids...you know, so we can really live it up". This will be the second year in a row we've done that! Hey, whatever you need to tell yourself in order to get that Disney fix, right? ;)

Looking forward to reading your report and seeing all those pictures! Have a fantastic time!

sounds like some great plans, cant wait to read all about them :goodvibes

Beignets, Tonga Toast, and doh bars, oh my!

You are my kind of dieters (i.e., if I have a fruit cup for breakfast..:rolleyes2).

Hey, enjoy your trip and safe travels. Looking forward to your report!

Thanks Ali, welcome to my food report! :wave2: I hope my review will of some help.

Welcome aboard TheNewMrsB! :wave2: I know what you mean! I NEED my Disney fix! (DGF not as much, she'd like to go somewhere else at some point, but so far, I've been able to convince her). It makes me smile when people say things like "Why do you even go to WDW, you don't have kids?". They totally don't get it! I think touring with kids and touring as adults are two very different things, but the magic (and food!) is universal. MarieLune and I have pretty stressfull jobs, and we find that going to WDW really enables us to completly tune off real life for a week. My first vacation to Disney was the most relaxing (and exhausting! :rotfl:) week of my life.

Thanks Nicky, welcome! :wave2: I hope we don't dissapoint!

:rotfl: Oh gosh, you sure caught me there, Denise! But don't they have magical fruit cups in WDW, that take calories and fat away? :rolleyes1 Seriously, since it'll be a gizillion degrees and super humid (we're from up North), I do think we'll be trading a lot of deserts for fruit cups, and use a lot of drinks for bottled water. We splurged a bit more in December when it was cooler, but I think weather will dictate a bit what we'll eat in August. Milkshakes, ice cream cookie sandwiches and ice cream Mickey bars, here we come! :woohoo:
Oh, and welcome! :wave2:

I'm so subscribing to this thread! I love finding those unique quick service/snack options - so i'm looking forward to all the photos!

Ok, I'm in too. I'm current doing Weight Watchers and this Oct will be my first Dieting Disney trip. While I don't think I'll exactly be counting points on the trip - I do plan to look through the menus before leaving to choose some of the healthier options. That way I can have my Mickey Bars too.

I'm interested to see what you come up with for Disney Diet food!

Have fun!

Hey there folks!

Congratulations on spending your anniversary in the best possible!:thumbsup2

We are headed there in December and will have, count them, 56 CS credits and 56 snacks and you have listed most of the places that we intend on eating while we are there.

I will be looking forward to your reviews to help me tweak our agenda.

BTW, might I suggest that you give Flame Tree a try? They have a really good fruit and yogurt plate and if you go on down the path a bit to the waterfront you do not get as many ducks and get a really good view of many things.

Also, I have yet to come home from DW any bigger than when I left and I usually come back at least 5 pounds lighter. It is truly a magical place. I take my scales with me, not to make sure I do not gain but to make sure that I do not lose too much and could have had an extra Mickey Bar, or three.:rotfl2:

Looking forward to the reviews ! :goodvibes

Not to worry, Yak & Yeti is still a wonderful restaurant. The lettuce cup appies and the Chinese babyback ribs are heaven on a plate. :lovestruc

Oh, and welcome! :wave2:[/QUOTE]

I, too, am on Weight Watchers (14 pds so far, 30 pound goal), and it's all about the fiber! Lots of fiber in fruit.

We were on DDP last WDW trip, just entirely too much food. We barely used all our snack credits, and got to the point with QS places that we went where we could take dessert with us for later. We took home lots of rice krispie mickey's!

Couple of suggestions. I'm pretty sure the ice cream cookie sandwich at the Main Street Bakery (not the ice cream parlor, that would be too logical) is still a snack credit. Great value, and plenty for two to split.

Never been to BB, because everytime we think to go, we just go back to Typhoon Lagoon (love it :thumbsup2). At TL, and BB as well I think, they have these fresh made mini donuts. Last time we went, I'm pretty sure they were a snack credit, but that doesn't look to be the case anymore, but worth the OOP (they are still warm). Of course, it is kind of strange to eat donuts while wearing a bathing suit, but I managed .

Now time to repeat our mantra: Fruit, fruit, FRUIT....

Wow! I'm popular! :cool1: So nice to see all you folks excited about my review, makes DGF's sighing and eye rolling all worth it! :rotfl: Seriously, I got SO MUCH valuable information on these forums for my first two trips (for food, rides, touring plans, etc), I feel I want to give back a bit. I feel I wouldn't have enjoyed WDW as much had I not discovered this website :grouphug:

I'm so subscribing to this thread! I love finding those unique quick service/snack options - so i'm looking forward to all the photos!

Thanks for joining in! I love snacks myself, especially the "special" stuff like kaki gori, fruit smoothies, glazed nuts, chocolate crepes etc. Seriously, on our last trip, I think half of what we did was related to what snacks I wanted to eat! :lmao:

Ok, I'm in too. I'm current doing Weight Watchers and this Oct will be my first Dieting Disney trip. Welcome! In our case, we're not on a specific diet, but have minimum and maximum portions of things to eat every day (I think I'll post our portion chart at some point in my review). Like you, I don't think we'll be counting as thoroughly on vacation. However, it's now second natureto count the portions we eat, at least in our head. I think filling our vegetables and dairy quotas will be the biggest challenges. We're supposed to eat at least 6 portions of veggies a day, including 2 for lunch and 2 for dinner, and 3-4 portions of dairy. Dairy may be absobed in the form of smoothies or milkshakes, so I'm not that worried :rotfl: But it seemed to me on our past trips that veggies were hard to find on CS menus, aside from getting a salad as your entree. Who knows, we may find some healthy hidden treasures!

Congratulations on spending your anniversary in the best place possible!:thumbsup2
Thank you! :goodvibes: We usually eat in a really fancy restaurant for our anniversary, but this year, I think it'll be really special to be in WDW. We'll be wearing our anniversary buttons proudly!

We are headed there in December and will have, count them, 56 CS credits and 56 snacks
Oh my! That's crazy! We never stretch our snack credits, and still end up using a few for treats to bring back home. Good luck spending all those credits! I hope you'll be doing a trip report, I'm curious to see how you'll do using all those up! ;)

BTW, might I suggest that you give Flame Tree a try?
I love Flame Tree, and was really looking forward to trying their fruit plate (which is an entree on the QSDP), but unfortunatly, it'll be closed when we're there :sad1: That's why on our AK day, we're still unsure if we'll eat at Yak and Yeti CS, or just go to AKL and eat at the Mara.

Also, I have yet to come home from DW any bigger than when I left and I usually come back at least 5 pounds lighter

I'm afraid I haven't had such luck! :rotfl: I think I gained a bout 5 pounds last December. But then, it was pretty cold most days, so it may just have been a natural bodily process to keep warm

Not to worry, Yak & Yeti is still a wonderful restaurant. The lettuce cup appies and the Chinese babyback ribs are heaven on a plate. :lovestruc
Thanks, and welcome! I'm afraid you're referring to the TS location, but we'll only be eating CS. I've never tried Yak & Yeti's TS, but it does look good. They recently took off the CS menu my 3 -counthem THREE- favorite items: mango pie, egg rolls and shrimp lo mein! There should be laws against that :sad2:

I, too, am on Weight Watchers (14 pds so far, 30 pound goal), and it's all about the fiber! Lots of fiber in fruit.
Congratulations on the weight loss! :thumbsup2

I'm pretty sure the ice cream cookie sandwich at the Main Street Bakery (not the ice cream parlor, that would be too logical) is still a snack credit. Great value, and plenty for two to split.
I love those ice cream cookie sandwiches! Will have to check Main Street Bakery, didn't know they had them! But you know what? At ASMu, they count as a CS meal dessert option! One good reason to eat some meals at our resort. And we definatly share when we eat one of these, they're huge! I tried once to eat one by myself. I succeeded, but didn't feel so good afterwards

At TL, and BB as well I think, they have these fresh made mini donuts. Last time we went, I'm pretty sure they were a snack credit, but that doesn't look to be the case anymore, but worth the OOP (they are still warm).
I read those haven't bene a snack credit for quite some time unfortunatly. Though, as you say, eating donuts wearing a bathing suit sounds weird to me  Besides, since this is a last minute trip, we decided not to buy anything OOP because we stretched the budget a bit to afford the trip. We may splurge in one alcoholic drink each during the week (Mmmmm pina colava :cloud9:), and our Chef de France lunch. And we'll probably play mini-golf, to incorporate a bit of physical activity in our vacation, for health resons of course. ;)

Again, thank you all for your warm response! Guess I can't choke now! :rotfl:

:thumbsup2

Bring on August 28 2010 and the QSDP with tons of pictures:woohoo:

jjohnson has a great snack thread, it is a sticky, with all the available snacks listed. He/she not sure which, :rotfl2:updates it often. It is a great resource. I cut and paste it and then delete the items and places that I know I am not going to go to. I then put it in columns to take up less space and highlight the things I want to make sure to eat.

The MSB ice cream sandwiches,, with two cookies and ice cream in the middle, are no longer a snack credit. sigh

I take my scales with me. Not to make sure I do not gain weight but to make sure I do not lose too much and miss an extra Mickey Bar etc. True, true. :thumbsup2

Yummy, if you give people what they want they always love you.

I'm usually the one who says I'd like to go somewhere else, but I'm always enthused about going and in fact these past two trips have been the one to call DH from work and say "OMG I just saw an ad for 40% off..." and before we knew it, we were booked!

You're right, people who ask that question don't get it. I guess if your only experience @ WDW is that of a child or a parent, you don't know that there's a whole other world (no pun intended) for grownups. We find that the more we go, the more likely we are to want to chill at the pool all afternoon rather than being park junkies. And you hit the nail on the head when you brought up tuning out. That's what DH loves the best, I think. No real world, no driving, no anything - complete submersion into another (utterly exhausting!) existence.

Well, I'm along for the ride!! :goodvibes We used the QSDP on our last family trip & it was really great! LOTS of food!! Plus you didn't have to have ADR's & plan your day around that.

TONGA TOAST!!!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Can you tell I'm a fan?? :rotfl: My next trip is with DISfriends & Kona Cafe for breakfast was one of the first ADR's we made!! :rotfl:

Folks who do not get it do not understand that Disney brands themselves as 'resort' for a reason. They offer the golf, spas, upscale dining and all that most resorts do AS WELL AS endless miles of magical worlds where you can wander in your imagination in a world populated with a high percentage of the most wonderful people in the world with the same love of the Mouse's House.

I have seen where some folks book the FD and never go to the parks at all because they can find plenty to do outside the parks and visiting the other resorts.

I recently read that Disney is playing around with the idea of a ticket for just admission to the parks without riding any attractions. They must know something.

I am a middle of the road kind of person. We go for long periods of time to slowly enjoy everything but do not go to the parks every single day. Two days in and one day out. Works for us!

I too am anxious for your reviews and photos.....I LOVE photos of the food aka food porn.....nothing better then this.
Thanks for taking the time to do this and let us in on your trip....we went last September on free dining and it was to darn much food for the heat of September.....we went again in May but used our TIW card.......
Have fun

So looking forward to reading your reviews. We're going in April, staying off-site, so no DP for us. We plan a couple of character meals and then another TS meal or two during our 8-day trip, but we'll mostly be hitting the CS locations. I can't wait to hear which ones you and DGF enjoy the most.

Happy anniversary, and have a wonderful time at WDW.

:thumbsup2: Bring on August 28 2010 and the QSDP with tons of pictures:woohoo:
Welcome Disneyof3! I'm addicted to food reports with lots of pictures, so I figure it's my turn to contribute!

jjohnson has a great snack thread, it is a sticky, with all the available snacks listed. He/she not sure which, :rotfl2:
I've been a frequent user of jjonhson's snack list since I began planing my first trip. I love that list! Makes spending 28 snack credits so much easier! :worship: I systematically send the link to anyone who tells me they're planning a trip to WDW and plan on getting the dinning plan... And you know what? I too do assume jjohnson is a she :rotfl:

I'm usually the one who says I'd like to go somewhere else, but I'm always enthused about going and in fact these past two trips have been the one to call DH from work and say "OMG I just saw an ad for 40% off..." and before we knew it, we were booked!
Funny, it always seem to happen that way here too  Not that I'm constantly looking for deals or excuses to go to WDW or anything :littleangel:

Well, I'm along for the ride!! :goodvibes We used the QSDP on our last family trip & it was really great! LOTS of food!! Plus you didn't have to have ADR's & plan your day around that.
Welcome to my pre-trip! So glad more people are joining in on the fun! :yay: I feel the QSDP is more food than the regular DDP. What I like is the freedom (no ADRs), and it makes it easier to share meals. Also love the 2 snacks a day vs 1 on the DDP, as well as the refillable mug. I sell the QSDP to anyone asking me advice for a first trip, because I feel the freedom makes it less stressful for first-time visitors.

Thanks for taking the time to do this and let us in on your trip....we went last September on free dining and it was too darn much food for the heat of September.
Thanks Pumba, welcome to my food porn! :cloud9: It'll be my first time in Florida during hurricane season, so I hope I won't be too affected by the heat and humidity. We do plan to do what we did in May 2009 (which, according to most CMs we spoke with, was way hotter and more humid than normal): get up early (we're early risers anyway), leave the parks around noon, take a nap or chill in the pool all afternoon, and go back to the parks for dinner. Also, what we usually do not to be too full is share plates. We much prefer to eat 4 meals a day and split each meal, than stuff ourselves and then not feel so good

Thanks NaLisa, and welcome as well! I love CS in WDW, so much variety. One of the reasons I want to do this report is to show people (including many of my friends) that CS in WDW is not CS in Six Flags: you do NOT have to eat suspicious-looking hamburgers and deep-fried stuff all week long if you don't want to (but you can if you feel like it!).

To think that in 5 days, we'll be at the airport, feeling queasy with excitement and lack of sleep! :cheer2:
