Man, I really have to finish this food report: ideally before our next trip! At least, its looking more and more like itll be December 2011, which Im happy about. Itll leave me plenty of time to plan! Were even considering trying the regular DDP with my parents for that next trip. If we do, I may just do another food report! Anyway, on with my current one!
On our day 6, we wanted to hit Magic Kingdom for morning EMH. Not so much for the rides, but because we like it in the morning when the parks are a little quieter. We began yet another day with a breakfast at our resort. We had the Mickey-shaped waffle with fruit topping and chicken sausage (6.69$), our daily fruit cup (3.99$) and a bottle of Smart Water for the day (3.25$). The waffle was good, as always: theres just something about Mickey-shaped food that makes it better. The fruit topping is strawberry, but given the amount of sugar in the topping, I dont really count it as fruit. Heres our morning feast:

We were really bummed, because we missed the rope drop show at MK
Weve seen it 2-3 times, but theres something about it that makes me feel like a little girl. I think its one of those WDW things everyone should see at least once. Anyway, we were also disappointed to realize that only Fantasyland and Tomorrowland open for morning EMH. I thought I remembered wed been to Frontierland on EMH on our first trip, but my memory may be playing tricks on me. So we were in MK at 8am and didnt know what to do! 
We didnt feel like riding Space Mountain, so I think we just walked around, went to Stitch (wed skipped it until then: pretty lame). That morning is a little foggy in my mind to be honest. I do know that at 9:46am, we must have been hungry and/or thirsty, because we grabbed a tropical smoothie at Auntie Gravity :

We also rode BTMRR, the Haunted Mansion and took pictures with Pirate Goofy in front of the Pirate League. By then, we were hungry for a little lunch, and guess what? El Pirata Y El Perico was open, and not just seasonaly!
Most people here must know about these open seasonaly restaurants and attractions, but for the benefit of those who dont, there are places in WDW that seem to belong to the Twilight Zone or the Bermuda Triangle, because theyre always there, but no one ever sees them actually open. El Pirata Y El Perico is one of those places: in 3 trips to WDW, it was the first time we saw it open (for free dining of course). Id noticed that at the beginning of the week, and had made it a point to eat there, so it was no accident we ended up in that area for lunch time.
I was a little bit disappointed with the menu, because I had read on allears.net that they had tacos, but this time they didnt. They had burritos (beef, chicken or vegetarian), beef taco salad and beef nachos, and only one dessert choice (chocolate cake). We wanted to share a plate, and sharing a burrito can be messy, so we went for the nachos (7.29$), the chocolate cake (3.59$) and a large Coke (2.49$). There was a toppings bar similar to the one at Pecos Bill, so we added toppings to our nachos (chopped tomatoes, lettuce and more cheese). Heres the result:
The nachos were good and a good size (especially since we could add on!), but we had the same at our resorts food court. I think its a good value if paying OOP, but I wish wed tried the burritos, which would have been something different. And the chocolate cake was the standard pre-packaged chocolate cake. It was good and chocolaty, but we could have gone without. A churro would have been nice.

We left MK after that, walked over to the Contemporary resort, and hopped on a bus to Downtown Disney. MarieLune had been harassing me since day 1 to go to DisneyQuest (since it was included with our waterparks & fun option), so we figured we could do that, and include a trip to the Cookes of Dublin for a doh bar and an early dinner at WPE.
Upon arrival in DD, we went straight to the Cookes of Dublin. It was like a gazillion degrees outside, so we were both a tad cranky. When it took like 20 minutes to get our doh bar, MarieLune was really not in the best of mood
We were both a bit disappointed with the doh bar to be honest. Ive read a lot of people rave about it, but I dont think well have one again. Just too sweet (well, it is a fried Snickers bar...), especially on a hot day. Might give it another try on a cooler day in December
Cookes of Dublin

We then headed to DisneyQuest. I wont go in the details, but we were both very disappointed. We hadnt really done research or read about it, but MarieLunes other brother had raved about it, but it wasnt at all what wed expected. A lot of the games didnt seem to work, it was super noisy (did I mention we were cranky that day?) I think we must have spent an hour and a half there tops, then left. We were both tired, and decided to skip Wolfgang Puck Express
We just werent hungry, and didnt want to hang out in DD until we were, so we headed back to our resort for a nap.
We woke up around 5pm, rested and a bit hungry. We decided to hit Epcot for dinner, because theres so much good food in the World showcase! However, we were already a bit hungry, so we stopped by the food court on the way to the bus to grab a small pretzel bag with a snack credit:
Not a smart use of a snack credit (because of the value), but we had plenty of them anyway, and just felt like a little something to eat on the bus.

In Epcot, we decided to take it easy, and went solely to eat. We wanted to eat in 2-3 places, one plate each place, to try more stuff. Our first stop was the fish & chips place in the UK. It was one place we hadnt eaten at before that I wanted to try, but I had to convince MarieLune to make it one of our stops, since she doesnt like fish. She tolerates white, tasteless fish, so I managed to convince her
The menu at the fish & chips place is pretty slim: fish & chips (8.19$), soda (2.19$), shortbread cookie (1.99$). So, guess what we got?
The fish was excellent, and a good size (though I do think the portions I saw at the Cookes of Dublin earlier that day were bigger). The chips were good, nothing special (at least, not super salty like regular Disney fries). We wanted to keep room for real food, so we packed the shortbread cookie for later.

We continued our walk around the World and made a stop in France, but not for food... Ive read a lot of people on the board talk about the Grand Marnier slushie, and had never tried it. MarieLune wasnt as hard to convince this time!
We hadnt had a single alcoholic beverage since our day 3 lunch at les Chefs de France, so we didnt feel guilty one bit to grab one of these :
It was heavenly!
It was still hot outside, so any kind of slushie would do It was pretty strong too: good thing we always share. Definitely a drink to try (though my WDW favorite remains the pina colava).

We kept walking counter clockwise around the world. I really wanted to eat at Tangierine Café, but we werent yet hungry when we passed Morrocco, so we skipped it and kept walking to work up an appetite.
By the time we were in Norway, it was getting dark and we were a bit hungry again, so we went to the Kringla Bakery for our last meal of the day. I know we can get the combo that includes a soup as a CS credit (had a super good beef and barley soup last December), but we werent super hungry, so just got a roast beef sandwich (7.19$), a bottle of water (2.50$) and school bread (1.99$). Wed never had school bread before, but again, after reading so much about it on the board, we had to try it! It was a little less sweet than I expected, but thats not a bad thing. We both really enjoyed it. We also loved our sandwich: its a notch under the one in Earl of Sandwich, but its different and very good. They put onion jam in the sandwich, and it gives it a sweet taste I loved with the beef. After our meal and before we left Norway, MarieLune used a snack credit to get a latte at the Kringla Bakery. It was so good! Had I known before there was such good coffee for a snack credit in WDW, I would have had some! Well definitely keep that in mind for the next trip. Anyway, heres our food, and the latte :

I am still hanging on your every word. Have been where you were in being at MK far too early and not having a thing to do. Sit in a rocker to the right as you enter and people watch. Most fun I ever have. Seeing the small children enter for their first peek at the Castle is always well worth it!
You reminded me of why I hardly ever eat breakfast at DW, those sausages look awful. Hope they tasted better than they looked.
In 25 plus trips I have never seen El Pirata open. After your report I am not sure that I care other than just as a curiosity though.
Dublin's is on our list this trip for the Fish Pie. My husband can handle that deep fried whatever. I feel that it is a sin to cover up chocolate with anything but more chocolate.
The fish at England goes better with a side of Off Kilter. Convenient and that is about it. Was shocked at how very good I found those cookies though.
Hubby and i share the Norway feast. I eat the soup and half the sandwich and he gets the other half sandwich and the dessert, minus one bite. It is such a pleasant place to dine, especially when it is hot. Again, more people watching. Might I suggest a Rice Cream next time since you seem partial to strawberry toppings?
We leave before Illuminations as well. I will sit for hours to watch the night parade at MK but not for mere minutes at EPCOT.
Those frozen drinks, fruit or alcohol, looked wonderful but it will be too cool when we are there this trip. Maybe another time?
I will always be looking for your reports in the future as we share so much in common in our likes an dislikes.

Hi! I followed your pre-trip faithfully, and then summer got busy, and then back to school, so I finally got back to the boards today. So nice to see your report!
Regarding no straws at Blizzard Beach. I suspect it is the same reason as why there are no straws at AK, because careless disposal can harm the animals. I just don't know what animals are at Blizzard Beach? TyL has the shark tank, but....
Thanks for the tip about mixing the coffee and hot choc. Great idea!

Thanks, it sure was! They're so creamy, and the chocolate on them is really good, not like those cheap ice cream bars you'd expect from a commercial place like WDW.
I only discovered WDW late (less than two years ago), so I haven't tried the dining plan back during the first year when the DDP was REALLY a good deal (with appetizer and tip), but sadly, I can even tell that the value has gone down since May 2009, which is pretty sad. How much lower can it go before people stop buying it and start going off-site? The thing is, when staying Value, getting free dining plan is almost always a better deal than a room discount. And there will always be people like us who don't rent a car, and want to spend the week on site, so our options are dining plan, or OOP... Curious to see what we'll do when we go with my parents. They don't eat that much and don't need dessert every meal. If there's no free dining then, we might just try to go OOP. If we do, I will definitely keep the receipts and compare to the DDP.Hate to be negative on such a delightful report but I do believe that if the food plan costs keep going up and the food quality and quantity go back down many folks will go back to bringing their own or driving off site to eat. I thought that dining plan, especially when 'free', was one of the best ideas that Disney has had, other than the Magical Express, for making it easier for folks to just stay on site, along with their credit cards and wallets.

I hadn't thought of that. We did use the rocking chairs in December 2009, at the MVMCP. We were so beat, and my feet really hurt, so around 11pm, we were sitting there and rocking away. They don't taste so bad. I admit they don't look as good as the pork saussage, but they're also a bit less fat. Idealy, if we could, we would have traded for some ham, which is the healthiest breakfast meat option (aside from eggs, obviously).Definitely don't plan around it. We went just because it was openned, and digured it might be the only time we could go. It'd be nice if they at least made a bit of an effort at least on the dessert aspect, and brought back the tacos.
It doesn't bother me so much during the first 2-3 days to stand around and wait for shows, parades and fireworks, then wait some more for our bus. That's why we try to hit them every night from Saturday to Wednesday. By mid-week, we're tired, and are a lot more irritable with our burning feet, sweaty people and crying children. We did MVMCP on a Thursday (on a Saturday-Saturday trip), and that was too late in the week. If we do it again with my parents, it'll be no later than Tuesday![/QUOTE]

That's been my WDW morning drink since our first trip. I wish there was real coffee at the Value resorts, but I can't wait until I'm in the park to get my coffee, so that's the best option I could find. Howver, if we have the QSDP again in December 2011, I might just get a second coffee in the parks with a snack credit, a real coffee this time.
They were delicious! Went very well with our straw-less smoothie. We made a lot of heads turn with our donuts! Had to tell several people where they could get them
That does make sense. What doesn't is to drink a smoothie without a straw
I didn't know about that! Was that included on the dining plan? I really wanted to get the fruit plate at Flame Tree, but it was closed during our stay. Had I known they had a similar option somehwere else...Thanks! My pictures didn't come out as nice as I hoped ( some people have really good pictures in their reports). But with a 5-6 year old 6 megapixel camera, I guess I can't expect professional-quality pictures! As for the English, I do get to practice a lot at work, and have always been good with both my French and English. Now I just wish my spoken English was as good as my written English...Fantastic reviews and photos. Can't believe English isn't your first language.

Hello everyone, and welcome to my last review! Ill be covering two days, because the eighth day was only a half day, and we didnt eat that much anyway. Also, I dont want to drag this report for another week! We received our PhotoPass CD this week, so I guess this means its time to wrap things up (until the next trip!).
On our last full day, we wanted to hit Blizzard Beach for the second time, because the weather forecast was for hotter temps than wed had all week. But first, we wanted to play a round of minigolf at Winter Summerland, because itd been on our to-do list since our very first trip, and we never got around to it. This time, there was no way wed skip it again! Also, MarieLunes brother was supposed to hit BB on that day too, so we were hoping to catch them one last time before we left (they live in Ontario and we live in Quebec, so we dont see them very often).
We got up pretty late by our standards (passed 7am), because we knew wed have to get up early on our last day for the Keys to the Kingdom tour.
You guessed it, our day started with a breakfast plate at the ASMu food court. However, since we were going to BB, I forgot to bring the camera for breakfast, so we dont have a picture of our breakfast. We got the chocolate chip pancakes with chicken sausage (6.29$), a fruit cup (3.99$) and low-fat milk (1.49$). You can just go back to our day 5 report and imagine chocolate chips in our pancakes!

When getting ready for a light lunch, guess who we bumped in, at the menu posting board? MarieLunes bothers family! I tell you, WDW can be a very small place sometimes. They too were getting ready to sit down for lunch, so we all ate together. MarieLune and I only wanted something very very light, because our plan was to take the bus from BB to Port Orleans to go eat our real lunch at the Sassagoula food court. So for our "first" lunch, we ended up getting a pretzel (3.79$) and a strawberry smoothie (4.19$), to share of course. Our nieces thought their aunties were kinda weird. Heres our feast :

I hadnt had shrimp all week long, so I chose the shrimp poboy with chips (9.19$) (its basically a shrimp submarine sandwich), with bottled iced tea (2.39$), and 3 beignets for dessert (2.99$). Marielune got the daily special of chicken alfredo (8.39$), iced tea (2.39$) and cheesecake with fruit topping for dessert (3.89$). She also used a snack credit to get some packaged celery and carrots (3.69$). Were used to eating 2 or more portions of veggies every meal at home, so MarieLune was missing her veggies too much.
Let me start by saying that my plate was HUGE!!! Just look at the picture, and compare the size of my sandwich with the size of the iced tea bottle. It could have easily fed two people. The shrimps where fried and very spicy. Not sure I liked having shrimps in a sandwich, makes for a messy sandwich to eat (there was no vinaigrette, so it was also a bit dry). MarieLunes dish was very small in comparison, too small in my opinion for the price. However, she enjoyed it a lot, and thought the size was just fine. The main reason why I wanted to go to POFQ was to try the famous beignets. They were good, but not at all what I expected, and somewhat disappointing giving the extra mile we had to go to get them. MarieLunes cheesecake was a pre-packaged one, with added strawberry topping (the same we got on our waffle one morning), and was actually really good. Im a sucker for cheesecake, so we couldnt go wrong there. All and all, a good meal, and very good value on the dining plan too. Would like to try it again for dinner on a future trip.

Anyway, it was so darn hot on that day, shopping in air conditioned stores probably was the best thing to do. I wanted to get a new Disney shirt, but didnt find anything I liked enough. The plan in going to DD was to eat at Wolfgang Puck Express or Earl of Sandwich for dinner, but we were too stuffed from our late lunch, not to mention I had a hard time digesting the spices in my shrimp. We had to make the decision to skip eating at one of our favourite places in WDW Before leaving DD and going back to our resort, we made a stop by Goofys Candy Company. We still had many snack credits left, and I also had a special order from my little sister for a rice krispie Mickey head, dipped in dark chocolate, covered with pecans with a white chocolate drizzle (4.95$ OOP)(no picture). I brought back one of these for her on our first trip (back when they still counted as a snack credit) and she loved it, so now every time we go, I make it a point to bring her back one, even though I have to pay OOP for it. MarieLune and I each got one pre-made dipped pretzel rods, one snack credit each (I remember the days when you got 3 rods for a snack credits ).

We knew we had to get up really early on our last day, and had to pack too, so I think it was the right decision. We were still full from our 3pm lunch, so we didnt eat anything else that day. We spent the evening watching tv in our room, and went to sleep early.
Day 8th August 28th Keys to the Kingdom and departure
We had booked the 8:30 tour, in order to have time to come back to our resort for our Magical Express pickup time, so we were kind of nervous about everything on our last day. We got up early (around 6am) and brought our luggage with us to have them stored before our departure. Since we still had lots of snack credits left, and had to leave our resort before the cooking stations were opened, we breakfasted with snack items: a bagel with cream cheese (2.59$), banana bread (3.29$) and a fruit cup (3.99$). We also spent our last remaining credits for some snacks to bring back home: Cheese Nips, Chip&Dale pretzels and two bags of Lays chips (sorry, didnt write down the prices).

When you book the Keys to the Kingdom tour (4.5 hours long), lunch at the Columbia Harbour House is included (entrée and beverage, no dessert). You must choose your lunch before the tour starts. Since it was looking to be another very hot day, I played it safe and ordered the Garden Harvest salad, and MarieLune ordered the Lighthouse sandwich. Heres the lunch :
I loved the salad, and MarineLune loved her sandwich (wed had it earlier in the week, so she knew she,d like it). It was so darn hot outside, I was really glad dessert wasnt included with the tour! (I cant leave food in my plate, so matter how full I am)

In the last our of the tour, I think I looked at my watch every thirty seconds, and we pretty much ran to our bus when the tour was over.
We did make it to ASMu with plenty of time remaining. We took our luggage out of storage, and went to the food court. We did the same thing we did on our last trip: we got two CS meals to go. We filled a few Ziploc bags with ice to use as ice packs, and got two sandwiches wrapped to go (ham & salami (8.79$), and turkey & muenster (8.79$)). That would be our dinner at the airport (we of course got rid of the ice before we went through security check). With that, we got beverages (iced tea (2.39$) and Fuze peach mango (didnt write down the price), and two Mickey ice cream bars to eat on the spot.

We couldnt get everything as there were some exceptions (you couldnt get pretzels, but you could get chips?!) . We were running out of time and out of room in our luggage, so we just grabbed 2 bags of Cheetos, and 7 Mickey rice krispie treats (3.49$ each), and stuffed them in our luggage. (I took the pictures at home when we got back).

Yes i used one counter service for this-you got a huge fruit bowl, a drink and dessert. they had watermelon, cantiloup, honeydew, blue berries, grapes, strawberries, oranges, grapefruit to choose from

Well, I gotta face it: our trip is really over now! What will I do from now until our next trip in December 2011?! I can always wish to win the lottery
A little recap on our trip, and our experience with the quick service dining plan. First, let's do the math: We had the free QS dining plan, which was a value of 448$ taxes included for the two of us. We ate for a value of about 528$ (a few prices are estimates), including taxes and refillable mugs. So you may say it would have been worth it even if we'd paid for it. However, we did eat some desserts we wouldn't have, got some snacks at the end of the trip we wouldn't have, got lots of bottles of water we wouldn't have had had we paid OOP. I go with the assumption we would have paid about the same amount OOP, for less food, but would still have eaten to our heart's content.
We didn't specifically seek out the most expensive food to get the most out of the plan. We did get a lot of smoothies as snacks, which are 4.19$+tx, so a great snack value. But meal wise, we didn't often eat the more expensive plate on the menu, but instead ate what we felt like eating, which because of the heat, excluded huge meat plates.
We tried a few new places, went to old favorites, but also missed out on many places I wanted to go back to: Wolfgang Puck Express, Cookes of Dublin (for a full meal, not just a doh bar), Cosmic Ray, Flame Tree BBQ (closed for refurbishment), Tangierine Cafe, Yak & Yeti, the Mara, etc. I blame the heat: we were both very affected by it, and promised each other never to go back to Florida in August! Tell me about December weather anytime!
Top 5 entrees of the trip:
1- The Original roast beef sandwich (Earl of Sandwich)
2- Create-your-Own chicken salad bowl (ASMu food court)
3- Lighthouse sandwich (Columbia Harbour House)

As I've mentionned before, we're planning our next WDW trip for December 2011, with my parents, for their first visit. We'll likely be traveling at a slower pace with them and will try not to park hop as much. We love the QSDP, but since it may be my parents' only visit, we may splurge and go OOP, to eat in more table service restaurants. If there's still free dining plan then, it'll be hard to choose between QSDP, updrading to DDP, or taking a room discount and eating OOP. No matter the outcome, I may just try to write another food report, and try to top this one

I can always wish to win the lottery A little recap on our trip, and our experience with the quick service dining plan. First, let's do the math: We had the free QS dining plan, which was a value of 448$ taxes included for the two of us. We ate for a value of about 528$ (a few prices are estimates), including taxes and refillable mugs. So you may say it would have been worth it even if we'd paid for it. However, we did eat some desserts we wouldn't have, got some snacks at the end of the trip we wouldn't have, got lots of bottles of water we wouldn't have had had we paid OOP. I go with the assumption we would have paid about the same amount OOP, for less food, but would still have eaten to our heart's content.
We didn't specifically seek out the most expensive food to get the most out of the plan. We did get a lot of smoothies as snacks, which are 4.19$+tx, so a great snack value. But meal wise, we didn't often eat the more expensive plate on the menu, but instead ate what we felt like eating, which because of the heat, excluded huge meat plates.
We tried a few new places, went to old favorites, but also missed out on many places I wanted to go back to: Wolfgang Puck Express, Cookes of Dublin (for a full meal, not just a doh bar), Cosmic Ray, Flame Tree BBQ (closed for refurbishment), Tangierine Cafe, Yak & Yeti, the Mara, etc. I blame the heat: we were both very affected by it, and promised each other never to go back to Florida in August! Tell me about December weather anytime!

1- The Original roast beef sandwich (Earl of Sandwich)
2- Create-your-Own chicken salad bowl (ASMu food court)
3- Lighthouse sandwich (Columbia Harbour House)
4- Chicken Alfredo (POFQ Sassagoula food court)
5- Tonga toast (Poly's Captain Cooks food court)
and a special mention to the tuna in the tuna noodle salad at Sunshine Seasons.
Top 5 snacks or desserts of the trip:
1- Ice cream cookie sandwich (ASMu food court)
2- Smoothies (everywhere!)
3- Brownie ice cream sundae (ASMu food court)
4- Dole whip float (MK's Aloha Isle)
