Day 1, Leaving home. Orlando, here we come!
And with this sentence, I'm starting my trip report. I loved doing the pre-trip report thing, but I'm sure I'll enjoy making the real trip report even more. I hope you'll enjoy! And again, please bear with me on the English. I'm positive I'll make a lot of mistakes, but hey, it's not my home language and I barely ever speak it, so I have an excuse
So, on the first day, may 5th and we got out of bed at 4.30 a.m. I know, that's early... even if you're leaving at 6.00, but I hate to have to rush and I love taking things slow.. so I got up at 4.30. I was so glad that Gerbert was feeling much better! He didn't vomit for a whole day now, which looked promising. I took a shower, ate some breakfast, re-checked the packing lists and checked my e-mail and visited some sites because I had some time left (what a surprise

) My mother and grandmother promised to take us to the airport (which is a one hour drive from here) and they were exactly on time. So we got in the car by 6.00 and were at the airport at 7.00, where we had almost 3 hours left before our flight left. We used the internet check in, so we only had to drop our suitcases off, and went through customs.
We ate something in a diner (travelling makes you hungry!). Gerbert ate his first real meal for three days and didn't have any problems eating, so he was totally healed!

After that, we looked around in shops for a while and before we knew it, our boarding time was there! We were asked a lot of questions again (they're really suspicious!) and after that we could finally board our plane. Oh wait, I took a picture of it first!
Our Continental Airlines flight to Houston was quite nice. We loved our personal entertainment screens, so we could each choose the movies we'd like to see. I watched "Catch and release", which was OK, but not really special, and "the Little Princess", which was cute. I have no clue what Gerbert watched.. I think he didn't like that movie too much.
Here we are on the plane:
We got lunch on our flight. We could choose between chicken, beef and vegetarian. We both had the chicken, whitch was actually quite nice. It was filled with cheese and we got a salad, some pasta, beans, bread roll and a nice cake with it. Here's what it looked like:
We also got some snacks and lots of drinks, it was really nice!
After more than 10 hours, we landed in Houston. We had more than 2 hours to catch our next flight, so that should be OK. We had to pick up our suitcases to go through customs again. They were there pretty quickly.
We went through customs and got rid of our suitcases. We walked to our gate. Because we still had a lot of time left, we enjoyed a frappuchino at Starbucks. We don't have Starbucks in the Netherlands, so we really like do drink some frappuchino's while on vacation in the US! And notice the bags under my eyes, I must have been very tired after three nights of almost no sleep because of the sick boyfriend!
Our second flight was pretty uneventful as well, it left on time and took only 2,5 hours. There were small tv screens which showed some comedy's and entertainment programming, which really killed time. We got a turkey sandwich as a snack, which was pretty good!
We landed in Orlando around 7 pm and immediately went to the baggage claim to get our suitcases. We hoped they would get there fast, so we wouldn't have the entire plane in front of us at the car rental. But unfortunately, we had to wait a long time.. by the time Gerbert's suitcase was there, almost everyone was gone
Well, we still had to get our rental car, so we went to Alamo. The line wasn't that bad and it took us about 30 minutes to get our paper work done. We walked across the street to pick out a rental car. We picked out a shiny red Chevrolet Cobalt, which looked like this:
After we picked out our car, we drove to our hotel. We stopped at Publix on the way to our hotel to get some drinks and stuff for breakfast the next morning. We finally arrived in the hotel (Courtyard by Marriott Lake Buena Vista) around 9.30 pm. The check in went pretty fast, there was nobody in front of us. We got room 276, which was on the other side of the hotel. When we were finally there, we checked out the spacious room. The beds were really comfortable as well. I was very glad to go to sleep. It was a nice first day, but I was really looking forward for the next day! I'm pretty sure I dreamed about Disney that night...
