The Duggars family TV show premieres this Sat.

Oh man. I missed it. I love watching stuff on this family. I watched on on Discovery Health Channel. Very interesting.

What I hate is that the rules apply to the kids and Michelle, but not to Jim Bob.

Oh, Mickeyfan2, that is because Jim Bob is IN CHARGE :thumbsup2

A quote from their website.......

"But Jim Bob doesn't for one second forget that a reporter is in the room, and he guards what both he and his wife say. When talk turns to his primary race against Hutchinson, Michelle starts telling of the day Jim Bob decided to challenge him.

Jim Bob quickly lets her know there's one part of the story they won't be telling. Michelle questions his decision, not seeing a problem with sharing it. But then, following a few brief whispers, she smiles and simply goes on with the part she can tell. "

Isn't that so lovely? She isn't allowed to speak her mind. She is censored by her wonderful husband

I think it's interesting that on their website in "Jim Bob's Message To Fathers" he says to remove all books, magazines, internet, TV, etc. that could show children "worldly or sensual" things but yet here they are doing all of this on TV and getting all of this material stuff apparently free just because they have produced children at a rate most people wouldn't consider. :confused3

I have to admit --some of the recipes on their website looked pretty good.

Oh Chobie! I am laughing so hard right now :rotfl2: You seemed, so, so, normal :rotfl2:

No really, was it the Tater Tot Caserole that won your heart? Shhh..Don't tell anyone, I want to make this for breakfast one day ;)

Exactly. :thumbsup2

I watch the show also and found it very sad and creepy. I feel so sorry for those slaves...woops I mean children.

I am also haunted by the web sight talking about training the children. I ever miss the chance to learn from my children. Its really amazing what they have taught me. I think those parents are missing out on so much of what children can offer us parents !!!

I also saw HUGE safety issues in the home.

Is this an ongoing show or just a one time special ??

Hey now..I like tater tot casserole!

We eat it at least once or twice a month..seriously! :teeth:

**edited to add...I just checked out their recipe. Mine's more healthy it has cheese and corn in it! :rotfl:

Your right, in the grand scheme of things their deplorable diet is not in itself reason to condmenn them as being irresponsible. However, combined with the cloisturing of the children, the unduly burdensome chores heaped upon them, the unsupervised and lack of safety devices while having children using power tools and the overall focus on fecundity as some kind of admirable quality does paint a picture of a creepy, irresponsible family.

There's no stretching needed to reach that conclusion.

Thank you for better stating what I was getting at. Maybe I zeroed in on the food aspect too much. It's not any ONE thing, but the combination of many things that I feel is irresponsible.

I don't know..this sure makes it sound like maybe the mother does more than appears.

It was 1:00 AM in the morning as I stood folding laundry with tears streaming down my cheeks. Feelings of being overwhelmed flooded my mind. I cried aloud, ”LORD I NEED YOUR HELP, I can’t do it all! I feel so inadequate! Diapers, dishes, laundry, meals, cleanup, school lessons, baths, hugs, kisses, correction…” My list seemed to go on and on. Then it was as if a still small voice said, ”Michelle, it’s easy to praise ME when things are going good, but are you willing to praise ME now?” Immediately the scripture that says, “Offer up a sacrifice of praise”, came to mind. I said, “OK Lord, I will praise you even now! It really is a sacrifice!” So through the tears I began to sing, “The joy of the Lord is my strength”. In my heart there was a release as if a burden had been lifted. I finished the laundry at 2 AM and went to bed. Days later, I was at our piano teacher’s home (at 7 AM) trying to catch up on paperwork while the children were taking their lessons. Instead, I kept drifting off to sleep! The teacher noticed and asked, “Are you OK?” I replied, “I’m fine, I’m just tired. I was up late finishing laundry.” As we talked more she said that she actually enjoyed doing laundry and that she would be glad to come and help me! That weekend when she arrived we had mountains of dirty laundry, and when she left we had nice, neat, orderly stacks of clean laundry! For 10 years now, our piano teacher, whom we consider a part of our family and loving call “NaNa” has faithfully come (now twice a week) to help us with laundry! GOD sent “An angel” in answer to my cry for help. He is faithful to hear the humble cries of his children. “Humble thyself in the sight of the Lord and He will lift you up.” God lifted my burden (literally mountains of laundry!) and freed me to meet the more urgent needs of my family. “Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto Him be glory…” Remember mothers, where God guides He provides!

I just think it's hard to know what really goes on from a one hour TV show.
People will draw their own conclusions of this family, and then try to pick out the things that support their opinion.

If you had someone watching a one hour special on the day to days with your family, how many of us would have people picking out things that make us weird or unusual.

And while I didn't remember the hug vs. no hugs thing, I remember thinking how nice it was at the end of the show when the mom was laying in the bed with all the girls piled on top of her reading them a story.
I mean some people are just affectionate in different ways. :confused3

And as for all the kids sharing a room, I can totally believe they wanted to do that.

I have an aunt and uncle that have 5 kids of various ages, they all have their own rooms, but most nights all wind up together.
We always joke about them being like a litter of puppies!

That's just them, and what makes them happy. The older ones LOVE to tend to the younger ones. And no they have NOT been conditioned to think that way.

Exactly why I would NEVER appear on any TV show with my family. They can cut and edit film to make it appear anyway they want. When you put your family on display like that there will be people who agree with you and those that disagree.

You're right! They have become the books, magazines, internet and TV!!

They preach against them but don't mind that other people are partaking in these "wordly or senual" things to get what they want. Basically, they don't care about the outside world and how they are contributing to what they see as bad??!!!

So Michele can't do the laundry for her ~8 kids (10 years ago) so she gets help. That is fine, but she makes 8 more, so adding more work and keeps relying on the Piano teacher to do the laundry for 18 instead of just 10. Seems selfish to me.

Just finished watching (I had Tivo'd it) - gorgeous house!!!!

My husband kept asking about child labor laws and is it really ok for a kid under 10 to be running a gas line???? hmmmmm

Jenny :)

Now see, I took "wordly and senual" to mean.."material and sexual".

Meaning the focus on material "things", and the oversexing of our children .

I don't think thier against ALL tv, internet, and books. Just a filtered version of it for thier kids, and I personally don't see anything wrong with that.

My kids aren't allowed on the internet without supervision, they're not allowed to watch rated R movies, or read "racey" books.

Are we as exteme as the Duggers..NO, but again I don't think that makes them weird, just different.

From a scriptural standpoint, I have always been taught that as a Christian we have to live in the world, but not be of the world. Does that make since?

I always took that to mean that we have to be able to live as normal functioning human beings in society, but we shouldn't conform ourselves to todays standards to do so.

:rotfl2: By now those babies should be able to just walk right out of there when it's time to be born.
How many people does it take to get your own zip code anyway?

I haven't had it, but I'm thinking it sounds good! AND - do you know something else horrible about me? I have CANNED FOOD in my pantry! For some reason, my fresh food just doesn't last in there so I buy it weekly. I buy my produce and fresh food at a seperate grocery store (budget reasons) so if you see me, my cart will be full of CANNED FOOD! Sometimes I cook with canned milk. AND - sometimes my boys like to have frozen burritos as a snack. Shoot me now!

Maybe, but she did say that the piano teacher is like a member of thier family, so maybe she is HAPPY to help so that they can continue to have as many children as they want.

I don't know, might sound crazy, but maybe the piano teacher doesn't help begrudgingly, but out of love, and is happy to see the family grow.

Wow, do you also have dozen or more kids that you corner off from the rest of the world and make them work all day taking care of each other and the house and give them no access to the outside world ON TOP of the diet ?

Call me weird, but I actually prefer canned green beans to fresh ones! :confused3

We do eat a lot of fresh corn and fruit when it's in season, but otherwise it's canned all the way for us!

I don't know how I would do without my canned tomatoes. And hey..I like frozen burritos too! :teeth:

The Duggar's have made at least two tv specials -- if they were not happy with the way it was edited and the public response then why did they make another one?

If a camera crew just dropped into someone's home unannouced and edited some not so great moments and put it on tv -- then it would be wrong to make comments about the family based on this. But this family chose it, not once but twice if not more. They are obviously satisfied with what is being shown of their family and think the things we think are creepy are just fine. God only knows what stuff they choose not to share with the rest of the world if that is the stuff they chose to show.
