roomthreeseventeen suggested there be this Challenge since we now have a Castaway Cay Challenge for Marathon Weekend participants who go on the 1/12/2015 Dream cruise.

The DPC is comprised of

5K on 1/8/2015 Thursday
10K on 1/9/2015 Friday
half marathon on 1/10/2015 Saturday
full marathon on 1/11/2015 Sunday
FW half marathon on 1/12/2015 Monday
10K on the Dream on 1/13/2015 Tuesday
5K on Castaway Cay on 1/14/2015 Wednesday

As of right now, I will be at the Meadows at 0330 on 1/12/2015 to start the FW Half Marathon. I am doing a slow pace that will allow me to finish in plenty of time to freshen up and hop the transportation to the Dream for the cruise.

Anybody else IN?

McFlurry John

BTW, M&M McFlurry before the start. YUM!!!! :goodvibes

UPDATE

61.7 miles of the 71 mile Palindrome complete. Did a very slow and somewhat hurting 13.15 miles this morning. Got on the road at 2:49AM. Family of 6 deer greeted me by the 400 loop. 10K tomorrow on deck, 5K on Castaway Cay on Wednesday and relaxing a bunch on Thursday.

BTW, I got my M&M McFlurry and slapped the top of the wall-turn 2 at the race track.

JOHN, John, john.......

By my rough calculations that's ONLY 70+ miles in a week, man.

I'm not the cruisin' type (nor am I a 70 miler type :lmao:).

You're on your own.

Bama Ed

PS - I'm making progress. Today I THOUGHT about printing the Galloway training program for the Half....:surfweb:

Bama Ed--Progress is a good thing, even if it's just clearing some gray matter cobwebs by thinking. Got to start somewhere.

Nope sorry Mcflurry John can't do the dopey craziness. I am doing Goofy, and i am hoping to stay at the fort for the marathon. In an rv with my kiddie pool to take an ice bath. If i can get up at 0330 i will cheer you on for your FW half.

Hope to see you at the Fort in Jan.

Yes, John, I am giving this some serious thought!! I would have to start earlier though because I am slow. I don't know anything about the cruise transportation. Wondering what time to expect for pick up. Any thoughts?

Kris-cheering is a GOOD thing. :thumbsup2

Lynda-DW is checking on transportation. We've driven from FW to Port C., but no car this time.

Anybody training???????

I just started mine last week out in El Paso. Going from flat, FLAT 12 feet above Gulf of Mexico level in SW FL. to the 4,000+ foot elevation and mountain terrain made for some interesting training.

Heading out from DS's house had a 100' rise within 1/4 mile then down, up, down, up, etc.

3.5 miles Monday, 6.5 miles Tuesday, 10 miles Wednesday, 6.5 slowest miles Thursday and 3.5 fastest miles Friday. For this old walker just starting to jog I had a slow but acceptable 10mpm pace on Friday.

Got home yesterday and was out 6:00AM today in 80F and 80% humidity. Way different from the mountains. Will be at FW later this week and planning a 14+ miler on Saturday starting at 3:00AM. Should see plenty of deer.

McFlurry John

Got an easy 6 miles in this morning at the fort, but with the humidity not sure it was easy. Heading out sat john so can't run with you. Hope to meet you soon.

Kris-Actually changed reservations to arriving Thursday PM so I'm thinking about a short walk/jog Friday AM. I like to head out 0300 to 0400 so most likely too early for you but maybe we can still meet before you break camp.

John,

I'm following the Jeff Galloway "Beginners" training plan and it says to start this weekend. So I got out there this morning for the first time in a long time and established a "baseline" (there's no place to go but up, so to speak).

I got myself a new pair of running shoes (Brooks Beast - a good shoe for us Clydesdales - I've run in that shoe for many years) and a new Timex Ironman watch for the interval clocking.

What are some of your favorite training runs that include the Fort?

Thanks for the motivation from you and all the rest of you Fort runners. ::yes::

Hi Ed,

I tried doing the loops one time and decided that was not my kind of enjoyment. I like the same counter-clockwise Fort Wilderness Trail/Big Pine Trail, 1.4 mile repeats. I have no problem with the same scenery for 10 loops because I can vary my effort at given locations as I go around and feel how my body is reacting.

When DW joins in, we go the sidewalk route off Big Pine Trail towards the Outpost, right on to Peacock Pass, left on to Frontier Way to W. Wilderness Road to FW Trail or Big Pine Trail and back to our loop.

Great to read that you are hitting the road.

I am an early bird John but not that early. I usually run about 6 and on vacation 7ish. I did some weird looping to get my 6 miles in. Went out on the path to Wilderness Lodge and then back and circled the fort. Tomorrow and Thursday are maintenance runs so only four miles. I might just do the big loop a couple times. Then i can put some intervals in it.

Hope to see you. We are in the 1300 loop even though we have pets.

Sorry Bamma Ed forgot to give you your kudos for getting out there. Remember it is one foot in front of the other moving forward. :cheer2:Good luck and we can keep this an encouragement thread.

PS i will be back at the fort first week of November. Will still be training then.

Kris or "anybody out there".....

I forgot the situation as far as swimming at the Meadows pool. Are people still heading over there late PM/early AM or is it fenced in?

Anyway, my Ironman Florida is November 1st and I was thinking about bringing one of my road bikes to do a mini triathlon Friday early. Swim 0330, then bike 0400 to 0500 then pound pavement. Do you think I can get in the pool or is it shut down? If no chance for swim I'll just bike and pound the pavement.

Thanks

McFlurry John

John

I checked out the pool situation while i was running. Sorry I was not up at 0330 to check. it was 0700 and i ran by the meadow pool. There was a sign out that said pool closed but no fence or gate locking it, I could have jumped in if i wanted to.

I also ran by the quiet pool at the cabins. I needed an emergency bathroom, btw one plus to running at the Fort all kinds of comfort stations in case of an emergency. I hit that pool about 0715. The gate was open but it did have a lock so that pool maybe locked during that time of the morning.

Hope that helps.

:thumbsup2 Kris, thank you for the info. :thumbsup2

I was thinking that I might just do a duathlon if I'm not comfortable with the pool swim. I could do 2 laps, 2.8 miles, then hop on the bike for 20+ miles, then back to laps, maybe 10 miles. Rode a pretty hard 62 miles today and should be swimming 1.5 miles tomorrow morning. I'm looking forward to exercising with the deer an so is DW.

Again, thanks.

Hi my Fort runners,

This seems to be a good thread for all our training and stuff. Thought i would share. My plan was to run 10 miles this sunday. Well .5 miles in i rolled my left ankle. I could not recover and i completely rolled that ankle and then fell forward. I hit the ground hard and tried to catch myself with my right arm.

Well the only good thing is nothing is broken. I have a moderate sprain in my left ankle (my boot from my stress fracture is coming in handy) and a pretty servere sprain in my right elbow. i also sprained my right shoulder and a mild sprain in my wrist. My elbow is fifty shades of purple and still 4 days later swollen.

It is starting to get better. The dr says i should be ok for Disney, may not get all my long runs in but should have a enough time to recover and train. I was supposed to do a half at the end of october, but i dont think that will happen. I dont want to push too hard and risk Disney.

Well i hope the other runners are having good and SAFE training runs.

:scared1: Not a good way to start off a training run. Please, PLEASE, PLEASE be careful and better luck with your runs in the future.

Kris,

Sorry to hear about your injury. My old running buddy from a decade ago was accident prone (running in the dark early morning hours wearing coke bottle glasses didn't help). He broke a bone in his arm when he missed a curb in the dark and damaged a rotator cuff on some new sidewalk construction. It's like one minute he's running off my left shoulder and then BLAM - he gone - .

I hope your recovery goes well. Don't try to push too hard to get back in your running shoes. Let things heal up well and strong.

I just completed my weekly long run this morning. Only 4 miles - but I'm on week 3 of my training regime. This starting all over again is a pain - but a necessary one. So far so good. Again, I'm shooting for crossing the finishing line upright, having fun, and being ahead of the balloon lady - not setting a PR. :cool1::yay:

Keep on keeping on Ed. :thumbsup2

Had to drop off DW's car at the shop yesterday AM for a 100,000 mile go-over so I did a 5.5 mile jog back home. Was going to bike today but rain put a stop to that and wound up with 11 miles walking. Kept the pace at 11:45/12:00 per mile to work the walking muscles not the jogging muscles and finished with a 10:30mpm pace walking mile 11. Felt good speeding things up doing my Chi Walking stride for the last mile then a jump in our pool for a refreshing cool-off after some choco-milk.

Had 2 wickedly hard 60+ mile bicycle rides this week plus 2 days at the County Pool doing laps.

Now have Ironman Florida in 6 weeks from today and feeling like things should be OK for the Inaugural WDW Marathon Weekend Palindrome Challenge.

DW is thinking about a fabric medallion to signify the completion of the Palindrome Challenge that I would wear to dinner on the Dream the night after the CC 5K.
