The Disney Grump & Family Take on the World-Our '09 Christmas w/ the Mouse, COMPLETE

Thursday, December 24th, Christmas Eve

We had no plans to go to a park this morning, so we slept in a bit and took our time getting ready. After eating a small breakfast of granola bars in the room, we headed out to the dock to take the boat to Downtown Disney. Only problem was, it was 9:20 and the boats didn't start running until 10:00. Soooooo, we changed directions and headed up to the bus stop. We had to wait about 30 minutes for a bus, so we could have just stayed and waited on the boat, but oh well we made it just the same!

First picture of the day (don't know what Jared is doing - I guess reading the book??)

IMG_2315.jpg

Our first stop was at the Design Your Own Tee shop

IMG_2316.jpg

I was disappointed in the boys creations, they basically got something that you can buy in the shops, just tweaked a little. I wanted them to get something fun and creative, but I let them get what they wanted. After all, it's not supposed to be about me, is it???? :confused3

Now, I was on a mission this morning - I had one thing on my mind and I was determined to find it. I needed to get to World of Disney pronto! I took a couple of pictures

IMG_2318.jpg

Loved the board game tree!!

IMG_2319.jpg

Then I went in search of my prize. Into WoD I flew, leaving my family in the dust, and into the jewelry and accessory department I went. I scanned the room and then I saw it - the glass case holding the Dooney & Bourke Disney bags! This wasn't the bag that I was expecting, rather a new black version - but it was still very cute! The bags to purchase were behind the checkout counter, so I jumped in line to make my purchase. I got to the front not knowing if I wanted the medium or the large bag, but as soon as I saw that there was only a $10 price difference between the two, my mind was made up, I got the big one. Plus I got the 20% off AP discount that they were offering that day, so I was on cloud nine! :cloud9:

After my bag purchase was secured I met back up with my boys and we walked around and did a little more shopping.

Isn't Santa Genie cute?

IMG_2320.jpg

After we were finished in WoD we decided to eat an early lunch. So, to Earl of Sandwich we went. We had never eaten there before and I had always wondered what was so special about a sandwich - well, now I know. YUM! Is all I have to say. I had the BLT and a bowl of potato soup, Don had the Original, Justin the Italian and soup and Jared had the pizza sandwich and chips. We all ate every bite and licked our fingers afterwards!

After lunch we went to Once Upon a Toy, luckily the boys got busy playing with the Mr. Potato Head pieces and I was able to slip off on my own. I made a few purchases to put into their stockings later that night. Took a picture of this guy

IMG_2321.jpg

Then met them back at the front of the store. Next we went into Pin Traders. I let Don walk around with Jared while I shopped with Justin. I bumped into Don at one point and he asked how many we were letting them get. I looked down and Jared had probably 15 pins in his hands! Ummmm, sorry honey, no. I told him to pick 3.

Next was my favorite store in all of DTD - Days of Christmas! I could look in here forever, but I tried to hurry. I think I ended up with 4 ornaments for myself, and 1 for each of the boys.

Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum as we left.....

IMG_2322.jpg

We were about ready to go at this point, but I wanted a frozen Coke so we popped into Goofy's and grabbed 3, one for me, Justin & Jared. I thought about getting the cute create your own cup, but the boys didn't seem to care one way or the other, so I saved the money and just used snack credits for our drinks.

After that we picked up the boys t-shirts and went to the boat dock to wait on the boat back to POFQ.

Waiting for our ride

IMG_2323.jpg

I also took a picture of the balloon, I'd love to take a ride in this someday - I bet the views are amazing!

IMG_2325.jpg

This was such a lovely boat ride back to the resort - a definite perk to staying at Port Orleans. Our building from the river

IMG_2328.jpg

And the path walking back

IMG_2329.jpg

We got back to our room and saw that mousekeeping had left us yet another new friend!

IMG_2330.jpg

It was a beautiful day thus far and the boys were itching to hit the pool. We didn't have a ton of time before we needed to head out for Epcot for our dinner ADR, but we had a little. So, the boys quickly changed and ran out the door and to the pool. I took a minute to sort through what needed to go in their stockings later that night and then Don & I followed them down. We stopped at the bar to get a drink

IMG_2355.jpg

Then I took some pictures

Looking back from the pool to the main building

IMG_2351.jpg

The boys enjoying the 'kiddie' slide, as they put it

IMG_2331.jpg

IMG_2336.jpg

They look a little chilly don't they???

IMG_2339.jpg

And a couple more around the pool

IMG_2353.jpg

IMG_2354.jpg

After I finished taking my pictures I took a seat on a lounge chair to enjoy my drink. While we were sitting there I called my mom to check in and wish them a Merry Christmas and she told me that they were in the middle of a blizzard. WHAT??? We live in Oklahoma, we don't have blizzards, we have ice storms and snow flurries. But, my mom is from Minnesota, she knows what a blizzard looks like and she said we were in the middle of a full on blizzard! She was very jealous when I told her that I was sitting by the pool and the boys were swimming....

I ended my call and Don & I finished our drinks. We looked around, it was starting to get really cloudy and dark

IMG_2356.jpg

IMG_2357.jpg

I was really hoping that we weren't going to get rained on. We had the Candlelight Processional tonight and I was looking forward to it, I didn't want the weather to ruin it!

Coming up: Norway, China & Germany - and would there be rain????

Oh wow. Loving all of your posts. We live in Yukon and are big Disney fanatics. I will so have to look for the purses next July when we go.:

So cute and so perfect for Christmas Eve!

I bet you were glad you were at Disney and not back home for the blizzard!

Hope the rain holds off for your Candlelight Processional!

I lost touch with your TR for awhile, but just found my way back. :) I'm so jealous of all of your fantastic photos...even your Photopass pictures are great. The best thing about them, though, is the big smiles that your boys always have on their faces...priceless. :wizard:

What time was your candlelight processional? We were there for the 5:00 showing on Christmas Eve...

What did you say? I don't think I heard you......:confused3

:lmao:

********************************

Great update! Looks like a great way to spend Christmas Eve to me!
I can't wait to see the pictures of all the souvies you got-especially that D&B bag:cloud9:

Hmmm, first it was the camera bag and now this bag...me thinks your TR is dangerous to my wallet.:rotfl:

Oh wow. Loving all of your posts. We live in Yukon and are big Disney fanatics. I will so have to look for the purses next July when we go.:

Thanks & :welcome: We're practically neighbors, we live in Moore!

I think the only places you can find the D&B purses are in WoD and at the GF - happy hunting!

:lmao: Looks like he is enjoying the story along with Mickey and Donald!

With that child, who knows - he marches to the beat of his own drum thats for sure!

I have a hard time with that from time to time.

I actually started in, telling them what I thought they should get and Don looked at me and said, 'the shirt isn't for you' - ok, point taken, I'll shut up now.

I hope we get a picture of it! ::yes::

You will indeed! Just a couple of updates away :thumbsup2

I bet you were glad you were at Disney and not back home for the blizzard!

The boys were actually bummed to be missing it, we don't see snow very often around here. But as you know, we just got plenty, and there was still some left from that storm when we got home, so it was all good!

What did you say? I don't think I heard you......:confused3

:lmao: You know it's true shocker!!

I lost touch with your TR for awhile, but just found my way back. :) I'm so jealous of all of your fantastic photos...even your Photopass pictures are great. The best thing about them, though, is the big smiles that your boys always have on their faces...priceless. :wizard:

Glad to have you back! Thanks for the compliment on my pics, we're all usually pretty happy when we're in WDW. Even the Grump has a hard time not smiling most of the time.

What time was your candlelight processional? We were there for the 5:00 showing on Christmas Eve...

We were reserved for the 6:45 show. Seems like we crossed paths quite a few times that week - I'm really kicking myself for not keeping more in contact with you. :sad2:

It really was a great Christmas Eve, the whole night was perfect (guess I'm kinda letting the cat out of the bag on the whole rain thing with that aren't I..... ) Souvie pictures will be coming up soon!

If you need help refraining from purchasing shoes or bags, then stay far away from me! :lmao:

Oh what great updates!!!! I really loved all the photos from DHS that night, and I am glad you got to see the lights! They are super pretty aren't they??!! You got some great Photopass pics! Seems like it was a good end to a great day -- loved the photos of DTD on Xmas eve! We tried Earl for our final lunch as we left Orlando! Great sandwiches! My DH had the BLT too! I got something with Brie... everyone was happy with their choices. looking forward to hearing about Epcot, we were there for Xmas eve too! We all were there! We probably crossed paths for sure!

I actually looked at the bag that you have too, but when I saw this bag I had to have it. Don told me in no uncertain terms that he would NOT be carrying the giraffe print bag with the hot pink lining  so that if I insisted on buying that one, I would be camera bag carrier. It was worth it :goodvibes

:lmao:

I'm really afraid he might be....... :sad2:

Oh no....that is terrible.... I guess then Mom and kids trips and girls trips and solo trips will just have to take place!!! ;)

And then a few years ago we went up in January for my grandfather's funeral and we couldn't help but laugh. When we left our driveway the car temp read 42 degrees, when we pulled into my aunt's driveway it read -3  Seriously, I don't know how you people survive the winters up there!!

I wonder that on a daily basis during the winter. "How do we do this?" followed quickly with a "Why do we do this?!?!?!"

What a great afternoon at DHS! Wonderful Indy shots that make me want the zoom lens more and more!

I look forward to the pic of your bag. :hyper: I don't think I have seen the black one yet. I also look forward to see what you got the boys for their stockings!!

Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum as we left.....

IMG_2322.jpg

:rotfl2: Great picture!!!

The boys looked freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezing in that picture! But, looks like they had a blast anyway.

I hope it didn't rain....:scared:

Yay for shopping!!! I want to see a pic of the black D&B bag!! A friend of mine ordered the white one right before Christmas and I just LOVE it!! :lovestruc It looksl ike the boys enjoyed their swim time!! Hoping the rain holds off!! Can't wait to hear about the CP!!! :goodvibes

The POFQ pictures took me back to our wonderful October trip. Brooklynn went down that slide many, many times and didn't want to leave when it was time to go.

The Downtown Disney pictures take me back to every trip we've ever taken! Being the fan of shopping that I am, I always enjoy seeing DTD pictures. :thumbsup2

We've gone from cold and snowy to cool and rainy. I would sure enjoy being back at the POFQ pool right now, sitting under the palm trees listening to kids splashing around in the water.

Glad you got to try Earl's. I've never had anything but a good sandwich there!

What pins did Jared end up choosing?

I'm just sure you were in line when we were leaving....

Probably not, we were a bit late getting over to get in line, the theater was already cleared and they were seating for the 6:45 show already when we got there. We may have walked right past each other though!

The Osborne Lights were spectacular! Seriously, seeing those might be reason enough to go to WDW at Christmastime. I really wish we had gone back over some other evening, closer to closing to be able to walk around and see more of the little details, but that just gives me a reason to go back right?? :thumbsup2

I can't believe how often we were at the same park!

Oh no....that is terrible.... I guess then Mom and kids trips and girls trips and solo trips will just have to take place!!! ;)

I'm fine with taking trips with just me and the boys. Problem is, Don's biggest hang up with it is the cost - that won't change much just minus one person. That is one disadvantage that I've found with not working, I don't feel as willing to push on what our money is spent on since he earns it all. That's stupid, I know......

I look forward to the pic of your bag. :hyper: I don't think I have seen the black one yet. I also look forward to see what you got the boys for their stockings!!

The black bag is soooo cute! The pictures of the stuff for the boys stockings will be coming up on Christmas morning :thumbsup2

The boys looked freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezing in that picture! But, looks like they had a blast anyway.

They do look so cold! It was probably in the upper 60s, low 70s that afternoon, but it was chilly when you were out of the water and wet. They said it felt great as long as they were in the pool though!

I need to get on the ball doing updates so that you guys can see that bag

I've seen pictures of the white one too and it is adorable! I'm hoping that they will bring it back for spring.......

The POFQ pictures took me back to our wonderful October trip. Brooklynn went down that slide many, many times and didn't want to leave when it was time to go.

Isn't it funny how kids could just play for hours and hours in the resort pool - forget those theme parks - we've got a serpent slide to go down!

We've gone from cold and snowy to cool and rainy. I would sure enjoy being back at the POFQ pool right now, sitting under the palm trees listening to kids splashing around in the water.

You and me both! We've had nothing but dreary wet/snowy weather for over a week, I'm sick of it!

What pins did Jared end up choosing?

Jared & Justin both picked out 3 pins each, I'll have pictures of them when I post the end of this day :thumbsup2

Great update!!! What a perfect Christmas Eve :-) Let's see this bag!!

It was a great Christmas Eve!

I promise a picture of the bag will be coming up - soonish....I've got the rest of the day written and ready to go, but I'm having to drag it out because I'm about to reach my allowed bandwidth on photobucket for the month. I really don't want to pay for pro, so I'm trying to wait it out until the 11th gets here and my bandwidth gets reset. I'm not going to stop updating all together, and if I get too close to the cap I'll go ahead and pay for a month, I'm just hoping I don't have to :thumbsup2

I don't think it is stupid at all. I totally felt that way the whole 6 years I was a sahm. I wanted to go back every year and/or more than once a year but bit my tongue because I wasn't bringing in any money. Going to Disney every year was actually one of the conditions I set when I was deciding whether to go back to work...

I've seen pictures of the white one too and it is adorable! I'm hoping that they will bring it back for spring.......

Last I looked, you could still find the white one on ebay. Just sayin...:rolleyes1

I love sleeping in and allowing yourself to slowly and casually do what you want at disney. hehe I know its hard to do! Also, I would love to be swimming and on a waterslide on Christmas Eve!! Instead I was stuck in snowy cold weather.. hehe

I went back to work part time last year and both of us realized that it was just best for me not to work. Don travels a lot with his job and my kids are into so many different things, it's just easier for all of us if I stay home. It also helps Don not feel so guilty leaving me with everything while he is away, when I worked he really felt bad about it. So, that is why I say it's silly of me to think of the money as 'his' - me not working is as much his decision as it is mine. It's still hard for me to get past though!

I've seen pictures of the white D&B bag as well, and yes, it is so cute! I figured I could find it on ebay - but I'm refraining......

It's nice to have at least one day where you sleep in and take it easy, we usually try to do this mid trip so that we are recharged for the 2nd half!

Ah ha so you DID get the bag. FUn update though they do look cold.

I got the bag! It's not the cute white one that you have, but it's adorable too :goodvibes

When we left off we were getting the boys out of the water so that we could head back to the room and get changed for our evening at Epcot.

As we got off the bus and started walking towards the Epcot entrance, a CM pointed at the boys and asked them to come over to him. We walked over and he said that they didn't look prepared to celebrate Christmas - they needed something. He then presented them both with reindeer antlers! They tried to act all cool, but I could tell they were excited about it. Here they are, antlers on, with the wonderful CM who gave them to them.

IMG_2358.jpg

We got inside the park and began our way over to TT to get a FP for later, but before we could get there it started pouring! We ducked into Mouse Gears and I bought a jacket that could double as a rain slicker. And, as soon as I checked out, the rain stopped. That was it for the rain that night, just a brief 5 minute shower! Oh well, the jacket was cute and I got plenty of use out of it the rest of the week. We left the store and got our FPs, then we walked into WS.

We were a bit early for our ADR, so we walked around Norway.

IMG_2361.jpg

IMG_2364.jpg

We've never walked through Stave Church, I actually didn't even realize that there was anything in there until I read about it in another trip report! The boys really liked checking out the Vikings and seeing all the weapons.

IMG_2360.jpg

IMG_2362.jpg

We walked through the store to visit the troll

IMG_2365.jpg

IMG_2366.jpg

Then we made our way out of Norway, don't mind the kid in this picture, I waited and waited for him to get down. I finally realized that he wasn't going to, so I just took the pic with him in it!

IMG_2369.jpg

It was now time for our ADR at Nine Dragons.

IMG_2370.jpg

IMG_2372.jpg

We were doing the Candlelight Processional Dinner Package, so we got appetizers with our meal. Don & Justin got the chicken dumplings, Jared got pot stickers and I got the spring rolls. I think Jared's pot stickers were the best. For our entrees, I had Kung Pao Chicken - yum, if you like spicy I would recommend this dish, it was very good! Don ordered Peppery Shrimp w/ Spinach Noodles, Justin had Honey Sesame Chicken and Jared had Lo Mein, Chicken Nuggets (basically sweet & sour without the sauce) and Meatballs. For dessert Don & I had the cream cheese and banana egg roll - it was very good. The kids both ordered caramel ginger ice cream. They took one bite and wouldn't touch it again. Don & I tried it and couldn't blame them - it was nasty! Our waiter felt bad that they didn't like it, so he brought out a bowl of strawberry red bean and a bowl of plain vanilla. If we would have known plain vanilla was available, we would have ordered that to begin with! Either way, the strawberry & vanilla were gobbled up. We thought it was very nice of him to bring them out a different kind of ice cream.

After dinner we went in to see the tomb warriors, we've never seen these either.

We accidently stumbled upon the Chinese Acrobats. These kids were amazing!

Then we just walked around China a bit and took some pictures

Next on our list to explore was Germany. The kids and I found the candy shop and had to buy some gummies! I spent two months in Germany with my dad when I was a kid and the gummies brought back fond memories.

IMG_2410.jpg

Don found a shop he enjoyed.

IMG_2409.jpg

He grabbed a glass of wine while we looked around. He liked this stein, but didn't like the price tag. If I remember right it was $300.

IMG_2411.jpg

I liked this castle

IMG_2412.jpg

but check out the price on this baby

A couple more store pictures

Then I took a few outside
