The Disney Duh

My husband and I always joke about "the Disney duh". We describe it as the way normal and polite people lose their manners and common sense after a long day in the themepark. You know who has it.... the people who walk right in front of you and ask if you were in line, those who stand right in front of you when you are taking a picture of your family, those who stare at the cs menu and can't manage to figure out what to order when the only choices are hamburger or cheeseburger. We have found that it makes it much easier to tolerate annoying behavior when you just shrug and say they must have the Disney Duh.

So, have you ever noticed this behavior and coined a phrase for it?

yeah, i call them morons.......usually see the most of this kind coming off the monorail waiting for a spot until the tramcar arrives.

Back on '04 my fellow interns and I would say that someone's brain had gone on vacation - but not to WDW with their owner - when we saw this kind of behavior. Then we would spend about 20 minutes trying to figure out where the brain went. Maybe Hawaii? (How much sunscreen would a brain need in Hawaii?) Perhaps France...

Of course, we worked at the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Playground and even though the park maps, the Tip Board, and two signs leading up to the attraction clearly state that it is a PLAYGROUND, plenty of people still wandered in looking for the 3D show.

Cool, I like that phrase!! Unfortunately, I have probably been guilty of that once or twice. It gets a little tough after a long hot day in the parks to always notice those trying to take pictures. If you were one I didn't notice I apologize, I really wouldn't normally do that.

Yes, Yes we will share! I will have the most fulfilling vacation some year if I overhear another guest comment on someone having the disney duh!

Disney Duh, very cute. Expand that to the Daily Duh. My issue is never with people who make mistakes or are just temporarily clueless (at WDW or otherwise). It happens to all of us. I guess my issue is with those who (or is it whom?) think they are entitled to the world because they were born. Or they don't HAVE to have manners because what's the point?
I really wish we could get back to mutual respect. It makes me sad to see the general state of things. Especially when my son (who is 8) THANKED me today for buying him mouthwash. If a kid can be greatful for mouthwash then surely adults can be polite, pleasant, mindful, etc and HOPEFULLY teach their kids to do the same. If things don't change soon, I am afraid to see how things will be in 20 years or so. Just my opinion.

A cm friend of ours shared another phrase with us the summer that we began to use quite often, "college program". It seems that Disney really lowered their standards and did a lot of their hiring over the phone this past year. Everytime we saw a cm doing something that was inappropriate or just plain rude we would look at each other and say "college program".

This term was incredibly appropriate when we saw two college aged cm's goofing off at the CoP while the ride was stuck and guests were banging on the doors and trying to get out.

I'm sure the CPs who actually worked very hard during their program appreciated this. There are plenty of "college aged" CMs who are locals and not part of the college program. Being a CP shouldn't have a bearing on how hard you work - I worked incredibly hard during my program. Any CM who is acting rude or ignoring guests while they're banging on doors trying to get out should be reported to a manager - regardless of age.

I have walked in front of someone taking a picture...innocently though ...
and yes I have walked in front of some one who was in line...honestly I didn't realize. I was too wrapped up in my family.

and yes.. I didn't have an order for the CS because I was too busy rounding up the family.

okay okay I admit it... I don't always do this..but on occasion I am guilty.

chalk it up to being excited to being at the world.

I do apologize though...so that must count for something
