THE DISBOUTIQUERS IN 3-D: A Pictorial Trip Report of a Dismeet

Hello and Welcome!!! :cheer2: I am going to try and knock out most of this trip report in the next few days. I don’t want to start something and not finish it! So let me give you all a little background before I report.

First, my name is Cathy and I am married to my wonderful DH and have three girls DD10, DD5 and DD4 at home. I love to sew and I love Disney and I love to plan. So how happy was I when I found the Dis boards? :) Very happy! And how happy was I when I could talk about and plan Disney trips with fellow Dissers? :) Very, Very happy! And then found a sewing thread about designing and sewing Disney clothing right here on the Disboards? So I was :) Very, Very, Very, Very happy!!!! ;)

This thread has now come to be known as the Disboutique thread. Click to see what I mean: Disboutique Thread
We are on the 11th version by now and I have come to look forward to chatting with all of the wonderful ladies and gentlemen who regularly post. Sometimes my hectic life only allows me to read and not post but trust me, I am truly following along. I also try to follow along with some other trip reports and keep up with some of the Wish trip reports and families. The Disboutiquers also make adorable clothing for children and their families going to Disney for Make-a-Wish trips. (I must say these are really talented generous folks). And of course we do more than talk about sewing. We are like a mini-family! :lovestruc

So last summer a fellow Disboutiquer, Heather, mentioned returning to Disney in Feb and meeting up with a few other Disboutiquers who were going to be there around the same time. I was determined to join them for the weekend and finally meet these wonderful people in person. Suddenly others joined in and the Feb Dismeet of Disboutiquers was born!

I mentioned the trip to a friend and she decided to join me. Now it was a girl’s weekend away and a Dismeet all wrapped up in one! My friend, Alice, and I started making plans for what we would do each day. Both of us are returning later in the year with our families but this time we could do whatever we wanted! With the help of Tour Guide Mike and the Disboards, we planned out the whole trip. In the mean time, Alice became a DVC member and had points to use at Saratoga Springs. We ended up staying in a lovely Studio there for “free” (developer points). We paid for our flights, park tickets and basic dining plan. We were good to go! :thumbsup2

We decided to fly from a local airport and not check our luggage. This became an issue since we were limited to one crumby 1-quart zip lock bag. Now how is one to fit all of the daily required items into one ziplock????? Here was my first attempt?

IMGP7590.jpg

Explain to me how two zip-locks is dangerous? And what do you leave out to get it down to one? Deodorant? Toothpaste? Conditioner? Completely ridiculous if you ask me. So the hairspray and hair gel got left behind in the end. I fit it all into one bag.

IMGP7589.jpg

Next dilemma was what clothing to bring. My intentions were to make a cute outfit for myself. It turned out terribly. I brought the capris and the Disboutiquers ended up making cute matching tees, so I went with that.

IMGP7563.jpg

I pack complete outfits in zip-lock bags, squeeze the air out, and toss them into my suitcase. I had room to spare. I was packed two weeks ahead of time!

So the day finally arrived. We were flying to Disney on an evening flight. I hadn’t been to Disney for two years and it seemed unbelievable to me that I would be there that evening. Work dragged by. To make things worse, my friend had been dealing with the flu all week and almost didn’t make it. She was resting all that last day just to be able to go.

I picked up the kids after school and my hubby arrived home early from work. I relaxed with everyone and finally it was time to go! Off we went to the airport. We made it through TSA just fine and had a wonderful calm flight to MCO. Yaaaaaaaa!!!!! I love to fly! Can you tell we were excited? :dance3:

IMGP7596.jpg

We checked in ahead of everyone else at Magical Express counter. We walked the “red carpet” and waited for our bus. We climbed aboard and promptly waited for 25 minutes. Boring! :sad2: By now it was almost 10 pm. We had been waiting to get going for almost an hour. I vacillate between liking and hating Magical Express. KWIM? :confused3

Finally, we pulled away and headed to Saratoga Springs. The bus driver quizzes us with a few trivia questions. I got one right! He was nice enough to slow down so I could attempt a pic of the Disney sign.

IMGP7597.jpg

We disembark and once again promptly wait in the pretty lobby to check in. Here's my friend Alice!

IMGP7598.jpg

Finally (I think we were just tired at this point and wanted to sleep!) we are checked in and head to our room with the assistance of some very nice bellhops. We are in the Springs section on the first floor. We are close to the bus stop, Artists Point and the pool. :woohoo: Yaaaaaaa! We unpack and get settled and go to sleep dreaming of Disney!

:surfweb: Up Next...our Magic Kingdom Day! princess:

Can't wait to hear more...

Subscribing! I'm a lurker on the DisBoutique Board. I love, love, love looking at all the talent over there. Alas I have only sons and don't get to WDW very often, but its still fun to read.

Looking forward to your report!

Katy

Great start! Isn't SS pretty? We stayed there on Developer points back in Nov. I think we where in the springs to I can't remember:confused3 All i know is almost every night all th e kids begged to walk to Artist point for Hot coco! :goodvibes

You said on the Dis boards you where going in Nov? When? We will be there the 1st week.

YAY!!! I'm loving it so far! It has nothing to do with the fact that I already got a shout-out. :rolleyes1

I agree about the love/hate relationship with ME! I just wanted to get there already!!! They were so unorganized on our way there and very rude. But, the way back to the airport was wonderful.

I barely got a glimpse of Alice at the meet. I think we scared her! :rotfl:

Sounds like a great start. I can't imagine doing Disney adults only...seems like it's been so long ago. Ready to hear more!

Hey, I remember you from your last trip report a couple of years ago! :wave2:

Looking forward to hearing about your trip! popcorn::

Looking forward to more. And I've had many fun times ;) doing my 3-1-1 bag.

Yes, I stressed over it for quite some time...mostly because it is clearly ridiculous and girls need lots of liquids. :rotfl: I finally decided to sacrifice the hair products and just buy some spray when I got there. It worked!

Hi Katy :cheer2: Thanks for coming along! I too don't get there too often since my DH isn't the Disney lover that I am...hahahaha ;) Do your sons like Disney too? I tell you what...if you can learn to applique Mickey heads on tee-shirts, you can be very creative with the fabrics you make the head with. Such fun!

great start cant wait to hear more
Coming up soon! Thanks for coming along!!! :woohoo:

SS is just great! The location was ideal. We walked back and forth to DTD and the busses were very prompt!
Yes, we are going the first week in Nov too!!!! We are planning a huge family reunion so we are renting a 6 bedroom house in Windsor Hills. I have to work :teacher: so I am arriving a little later in the week.

I'm on board. I am just sad that I missed the meet.
Awwww we missed you too! I wish everyone could have been there. It was a great experience and everyone was so nice. :grouphug: I am sure it will become an annual thing so maybe you can come next time??!!! I am hoping it will be later in Feb next time.
Can't wait for more!
Teehehehehe...coming up funny lady! ;)

Oh yaaaa...you helped start it all! That ME runs hot and cold. If you read enough trip reports you hear the whole gammet. I was very impressed with the busses once on campus. How about you? Did you have long waits?
Sorry about my friend Alice...she wasn't into the meet part :confused3 Not sure why but she did say you all seemed nice :goodvibes

looking forward to more! love those capris!

They were fun to wear and the CM's mentioned they liked them. I will save them for a minnie costume or something.... :rotfl2:

Magic Kingdom Day

A very happy Mickey and some crazy guy Stitch woke us up in the morning! :mickeyjum :stitch: That would be 6:15 am. No rest for the hard-core park tourers (that isn’t really a word). I knew Magic Kingdom would fill up later in the day (it was a Spectro Day) but I was hoping “they” would arrive later in the afternoon. I wanted to get our rides done before the lines stretched out. So…..I was ready. Now, granted, it was February but to me Disney means battling the summer crowds and heat.

We hadn’t eaten dinner so we were both hungry and had an extra counter-service, so we headed to Artist Point to grab some breakfast. Yummy! I had an egg and cheese and croissant sandwich, tea and OJ which I later spilled outside…opps. The pool was steamy warm and the air a bit cool. We headed to the bus stop and waited while a little girl cried for the entire 10 minute wait. Who knows why. It turned out to be our longest wait the entire trip. For some reason (I am not complaining!) the buses were pretty frequent.

Well, we arrived at the rope for MK at 8:30 am. There were only about 40 people there. Hahahahahaha. I was amazed. We were really excited to get going and the opening show was cute.

Then the rope dropped and we were off. We got as far as the flag pole! I really wanted to take lots of pictures because usually I am pushing the stroller and can’t do both. It was so amazing to finally be here! I am so used to seeing everyone else's pictures (2-D) that my head was spinning seeing everything up close and in 3-D!

It looks crowded in the background...but remember that was everyone. You are seeing the back of the morning rush! We filled up Main Street and everyone went a different way at the hub. popcorn::

We walked up Main Street and turned by Crystal Plaza to go over the Adventureland Bridge. I kept taking pics the whole way. Sorry about the goofy pics of me…I haven’t quite gotten the hang of holding the camera out and taking my own picture. Hahahaha!

It was still a bit chilly this morning but you could tell it was going to be a gorgeous day…predicted to be around 70 degrees! Last time I walked through here the stroller parking area was jammed packed with strollers. We got to the line at Pirates (hahahaha), went to the left, since everyone goes to the right.

And arrived at the boat. We were the only ones in the place. We giggled the whole way in. It is a bit scary being in there by yourself. Fortunately, there were CM’s waiting to help us aboard our very own cruise boat. We got in and turned around. (insert chirping crickets). No one was there. We pushed off and enjoyed the entire attraction solo. Thank goodness Alice came or I would be all by myself. I love POTC! pirate:

Next, we headed over to get FP for Splash Mountain. Finally we see other people…..and they all match. In fact it was about 100 matching cheerleaders or something en mass. We grabbed FP after discovering that our room cards do not double as park tickets. ;) Both of us got our park tickets at AAA before we left. We were so used to having everything on one card that we often got confused as to which card worked where. More on this later. :confused3

IMGP7646.jpg

We weren’t ready to get wet yet so we headed over to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Right behind all 2000 matching cheerleaders from another country. Would the posted 10 minute wait change to 30 minutes??? :confused3 Nope. Disney is too efficient to let a few matching kids slow them down. We waited about 2.5 seconds to board our train. We were all the way in the back this time. As a physics teacher:teacher: I can tell you it was fun to flip over the hills back there.:thumbsup2 It was a wild bumpy ride. It was a gorgeous sunny day. It was only 9:15 am and the day was off to a great start! :yay:

Next, we headed around the Liberty Square lagoon to check out the ever-so-scary Haunted Mansion.:scared1: It was closed for a much-needed refurbishment last time I visited. It was really fun. I was reminiscing about the time I rode it as a child. I remember asking to go through the HM over and over as a child. Nice memories. Isn’t Disney World the best? :flower3:

When we exited HM, we wanted to try to make it on the LS Riverboat. As we were quickly walking up they were getting ready to put the rope across. However, they let us on the boat. Last time I rode this it was approximately 153 degrees out. The boat was so crowded we ended up sitting in the back on the floor too exhausted to move or enjoy it. This time we were aboard with about 6 other people….maybe 10 if I exaggerate. It was such a pretty day…warming to a sunny 70 degrees. I never realized there was a little parlor aboard. We snapped pics and walked around all three levels. Both of us were interested in taking our families to Tom Sawyer Island next time we came. It looked so interesting from the boat.
