Hi fellas, another new Dis dad to the boards. I meet a number of the criteria in the first post, one of which is listening to Disney podcasts. I will add the disdad podcast to my repertoire ASAP.

I did go to WDW on my honeymoon, but got sick. :sad2: I'm convinced it was a reaction to giving up my bachelorhood and not something I ate/did at Disney. ;)

Thanks for the laughs in this thread!

Aloha! And Welcome Aboard!!

Great group here...enjoy!

Welcome!:cool1:

:thumbsup2 Thanks for the knowledge. I think I have a handle on the lingo...

I didn't think there was such thing as a nasty coke product. Hmmm...

Stop by Club Cool on your next trip to Epcot, you're all-encompassing opinion of Coke products may change.... ;)

I rented a condo in Palmetto Dunes area..We had never been to HHI until last year as we had always gone to Myrtle...has the been there done that feeling and we wanted to try something new...I was disappointed at first that nothing in HH is actual Ocean Front like in Myrtle, but We do have a nice view of the ocean from our condo..it is as ocean front as you can get LOL. I went through the VRBO.com website and got a great rate direct from the owner.

Sounds great to me. You’ll have to give us a little TR on what all you get into down there. We just got back from a long weekend trip to MB (well, Garden City actually, but it’s the same thing). I know about the “been there done that feeling”, but being from in-state, it’s a comfortable place for us.

Actually (and just as an FYI for all the dads) they have added a few new things along the Grand Strand. The boardwalk is now completed and very, very nice. They’ve also opened up a new Farris Wheel on the Boardwalk (billed as the tallest such structure on the Southern Atlantic coast). A new “Wonder Works” attraction has moved into the area and The old “Dixie Stampede” is just completing a makeover and reopening in June as a Pirate’s themed adventure and dinner show (to better compete with Medieval Times).

Welcome aboard. Grab a beer out of the fridge, kick a few of the empties out of the way and pull a lawn chair up near the grill. We’re glad to have you along.

Thanks for the membership..

Is it too early to ask when shirts will be avaliable?!! Ha HA :rotfl:

Actually, we do have shirts (much to out DWs chagrin). Just not right now. Keep an eye out, and maybe well start up the process of ordering another batch some time in the near.

:thumbsup2 Thanks for the knowledge. I think I have a handle on the lingo...

The next time you’re at EPCOT, you really must try the stuff. Just be sure to have someone take a picture of your reaction (and post it back here).

These (although I hate that this is true) are a virtual necessity. Our’s has helped our boy (and many, many companions) “survive” about ten trips to & from Florida, scores of jaunts to the coast, and anywhere else we’ve traveled with an extended drive time. They certainly help curb the young’in boredom factor. The down side? They miss seeing any and every possible site along the way, and (because they not watching where you’re going), they don’t learn the routs to our regular destinations.

That's something that I fought through over the years but it keeps the bickering to a minimum. Then again, so does leaving at midnight.

Will do...the DF..loves :rolleyes1 all of my tshirts. This would be a welcome addition.

Any thought of kids shirts for our little ones like my dad is a member...blah blah blah...so fun!!!

That's a deal. We go back in September and I will do this!! Thanks for the heads up!!

True and True. Both are useful survival tools. :rolleyes1

I’ll be watching for the images. We have a saying around here: “Pictures or it didn’t happen”. :lmao:

I love the watermelon one. Mmm...

I generally go through about half a dozen cups of the ginger ail whenever we hit Club Cool (which will be multiple times per trip if I can swing it. :drinking1

Wow..ok...I am a coke junkie...even making sure when I order a 'coke', that they don't bring Pepsi...blech!

Welcome. I agree, Coke is the best.

OK guys, call me crazy,...Even with gas at $4/gallon and considering the cost of the overnight stay along each way, driving would be about 1/4 the cost of flying, and might make the difference between being able to afford to make a trip or not. Anything that I'm not taking into consideration here that I should be thinking about?

Crazy. As for driving, we leave in the early evening (5 or 6) and drive straight thru. I drive most of the way and DW gives me an hour or so nap. That's all I need. My dds sleep in the car the whole way. It is only a 13 hour drive for me though.

Who will do the driving. Again, DW and I are a well matched pair, I love to drive, and she's a good passenger.

Me too. I love to drive but am a bad passenger.

You never know how far you'll get - sometimes you'll stop and know that you can make it to the next town without issues.

Agree. I have Holiday Inn Points from all the traveling I do and did a free point stay. But, I really wish we had not stopped and could have driven further.

So with the news that Shaq is retiring ...

I will miss Shaq, one of the best 4 centers in the history of the game. Maybe he can be a pirate in the next POTC movie. Captain Shaq Fu? Captain Big Aristotle?

Welcome to all the noobs!!

I found this place a couple weeks ago when it was just a thread. It's been like watching a child grow up. *tear*.

On a semi-related note - any chance of a shirt order going through in time for me to get one for my July trip?? I want to wear my letters this trip.

Cheers,
Indy

looks like im down to 15 days till trip 50!!!:woohoo::woohoo::dance3::dance3:

Isn't it a DisDad Law that when you go on your 50th trip that you have to buy a souvenier for each of the other DisDad members? I'll take a Star Wars Vinylmation or a Pete as Boba Fett action figure! :thumbsup2

On an unrelated note, I just got an email from the director. No need for call backs, I got the part of Amos!!!!:woohoo::dance3:
Still waiting to see if DW got a part. I hope she does, it's one of her favorite musicals...I'd feel bad if I got a part and she didn't.

It's here!! It's here!! Our car will be here at 4pm my oldest knows we are leaving today but the my ds14 and dd13 do not!! Can't wait to surprise them with the limo waiting!! We told them we are having a nice family dinner before we leave.. So when we come down to go to dinner.. All they will see is the car!

:woohoo::woohoo: :dancer:

Tomorrow is my Friday!!!:banana::banana: We are not going to be in Disney next week but Hilton Head is a close second to me!!

Have a great time, Carl & Steve! :cool1:

OK guys, call me crazy, but DW is reluctant to agree to a WDW vacation this year, due to the cost. Flights are just looking to be crazy expensive. But I REALLY want to go back, probably at the beginning of December (to give Squeaker a turn to celebrate his birthday at WDW). So now for the crazy part. I'm seriously considering driving from Kansas to WDW.

Google Maps indicates that this is about a 21 hour drive, which raises a few questions. First, I'm leaning toward the I-75 S route. Any good reasons to take another of Google maps' recommended routes? Second, where should we make our overnight stop on the way? I think 12 hours is probably as much as we're probably going to be able to handle on the road at a stretch - maybe 16, but only if the kids sleep well in the car.

Even with gas at $4/gallon and considering the cost of the overnight stay along each way, driving would be about 1/4 the cost of flying, and might make the difference between being able to afford to make a trip or not. Anything that I'm not taking into consideration here that I should be thinking about?

Someone else already mentioned this, but consider how much your time is worth. But 1/4 of the cost is a huge savings. I'd probably do it :thumbsup2
