I'm gonna butt in here for a moment and ask for some prayer.

Come Friday my family is going gluten free. While it's a wise decision for my wife who had all sorts of issues and while I am willingly subjecting not only myself but my kids as well to this in an act of solidarity, it will be extremely difficult as we're all big fans of food that tastes good. :sad1:

Until then, however, we're in a gluten binge! :woohoo:

Lessee - I had fresh pita on Friday and Saturday, quesadillas yesterday, and pancakes for lunch today. Now to find more stuff I can't eat. The hard thing is that I guess I've already been doing it. Once I looked at our normal dinner meals (usually some combination of rice, corn, pork, and a custom sauce made of Chinese 5-spice, clove, cinnamon, sriracha, honey, salt, pepper, ginger, and/or garlic) - all of that is gluten free. BAH! I didn't even know it.

The one main thing I'm going to miss, however will probably be the double chocolate espresso cookies that I only make during the month of December. Or pie. Or bagels. I think that's about it.

Any of y'all have celiac or on a gf diet for some reason or another?

As an aside, any of y'all foodies? I've spent most of the day researching a diy immersion circulator/cooker so I can sous vide me up some fancy vittles.

Will certainly keep you guys in prayer...you will have to also keep us posted on things and how you are doing with the changes in everyones diets

That used to be such a fun game, but my wife has ruined it for me!
Is it because she beats you in it?:confused3

Good luck, Ian. That can't be an easy switch, bur in the long run I'm sure you and your family will be healthier for it!

Nope, been robbed too many times. :sad1: Soon enough people might start thinking I play ball for a little bear den up in Chicago. If it happens again I think I'll just take my ball and go home:tiptoe:

My twins are on special diets. One is autistic and is gluten free / dairy free and the other is allergic to all types of dairy and eggs (whites, yellows, or whole). We have been doing this for the last seven years. There is a whole lot of products out there that is available to people on the gluten free diet.

Chex cereal is gluten free. Betty Crocker makes a gluten free line of bakery products.

But it is not just the food that you have to worry about. Medications, some have gluten in them. Lotions, Hair care products, certain soaps. There is alot to think about. One of the best websites that we found is www.gfcfdiet.com It has a directory of thousands of products that are gluten free.

When it come to some of your favorite things it is best to contact the manufacturer and ask them point blank if their product has any gluten.

I hope this helps.

Good Luck

actually... I thought i'd pose this question to the dads this time around. What should be the title of our next thread? Let's hear some ideas to complete this title:

the dis dad's club viii - <insert your idea here>

"we be roliin, rollin"

While no one in our family has a gluten allergy, one of the kids in DD's class at school is on a GF diet. DW has taken it upon herself to make sure that, when there are class parties/events/etc. there are always GF alternatives available that look and taste as good as the non-GF versions. She sort of takes it as a personal challenge. She has developed some of her own recipes (she scours the 'net for recipes, then tweaks them). I'll see if she has any of them written out and I'm happy to send them along.

Cool! Our lot of 50 pins arrived in the mail today for next week's visit... now to divide them up. I got an entire set of 5 in the mix, from Country Bear Jamboree... I might just need to keep those for myself...

Is it a bad thing when you walk into the Disney store to pick up Tangled and the lady working says "let me show you the new items out for summer". I go there way too much :lmao:
