So, hey guys....I have been reading through a few pages and it looks like a few of you hit wdw more than once a year. I was wondering how often ya'll go?

We had a great time in March 2009 and are going again Feb 2011. I've been missing it like crazy! We're planning on not telling the kids at all. Maybe they won't figure it out till about 4 or 5 hours into the trip - hehehe.

We have been at least twice a year for the last couple of years; this year it will be three trips, one that was planned in April, one for the Expedition Everest Challenge in June, and the December trip which was not planned at all until we saw the special on how they decorate the parks for Christmas (CURSE YOU TRAVEL CHANNEL!!!!!!!!!!)

We got away with not telling DS the first trip this year, didn't know where we were until he saw the DVC sign with all the characters in the red mini van. Last trip he figured it out when stopped in Jacksonville for the night.

On the weekend he asked me why every time there is a surprise trip we end up at Disney?

I am trying to come up with a good name for the championship game. I was thinking the "Dole Whip Cup" :drinking1 but I am, as always, open to suggestions.

There are probably a couple of 50 gal drums in the "trailer" they duct tape to the sides of it. or they could have this inside:

I would love to be able to afford to go once a year (or more than once a year), but we're not DVC members and it's a major investment. Also, part of the appeal of Disney is the "magic" of the place, and we wouldn't want the novelty of that to wear off. So we try to go back once every few years or so, while trying to see the rest of the country in the meantime. Of course, it helps that our kids are getting old enough to start appreciating national parks, wildlife, etc.

This probably sounds weird and crazy to people who don't know us. But my son gets a kick out of saying it with me, lmao:

We're Men!
We fight all night!
We drink root beer!
Man power!

(Followed by a Tim Allen/Home Improvement man grunt session)

Anyway, he's my little partner in crime and i'm not sure what i'd do without him. :goodvibes

:thumbsup2

It's the Tim Allen grunting that puts it over the top, I think.

Thanks, guys! The parents do know I'm a pediatrician and earlier this pm, they were asking me about ADHD (which he doesn't have) so I may already have an opening. I'm going to take Mark's advice & wait until later in the trip

I'm also not sure they don't know. As a parent of a special needs child (with autism) I'm very familiar with both denial & not sharing the diagnosis with everyone!

Also complicating things is that Williams is something that responds to early intervention, so missing a diagnosis could have significant consequences.

Thanks again for the advice! I'll let you know how it goes.

Good luck Chris!

I agree...those Disney Travel Channel shows are evil! And they suck me in every time.

I'm looking forward to this myself. As my 5 yr old calms down a bit more and gets older we can finally take him to museums, historical sites, and just see the country in general. (Without the worry of him breaking some priceless object!)

I have to admit, I love the idea of a Dis Dads group! I was laughing my butt off reading your criteria and man laws. I actually have a little "Man creed" that I say with my 5 yr old son pirate: Can I sign on up??

You sure can! You are member # 499! :thumbsup2

:welcome: WELCOME TO THE DIS DAD'S CLUB! :welcome:

You have been added to the DIS Dad's Club list :thumbsup2

OK guys... once we get our 500th member I will start the new thread for DDCV! :cool1: Who's it going to be???

Don - we need to get this added to DDC V!

Oh yeah... it's in there :thumbsup2 This is good stuff!

hummmmm????? Calling all Dad's! Maybe we need someone to post about a man card again... seemed to work last time. :confused3

Is today going to be a free for all on here with everyone tying to get the last post in? :surfweb:

Who would add a post with no purpose other than to try and get the last word in before a thread got closed? :confused3
:rolleyes1

Ok Chris... I'll take it easy today. I did 'win' last time. I can share the glory!

So is there a link to DD V or is it not fully operational yet? :confused3

I believe that we're hoping to pick up member #500 before launching the new thread.

We have been fortunate to be able to go multiple times per year as a family for the past 3 years - or as a portion of the family (I've taken each of my boys on a solo Father/Son trip, I've taken both of my boys together, and DW and I have gone on anniversary trips sans kids - this September I'm taking my DD on a Daddy/Daughter Adventure). Plus my work takes me to Florida & California, so I am able to go to both the Land and the World solo in addition to family trips. But we're also DVC members, so the accomodations part is taken care of. And because of all of the trips, I've got an AP (to both), so the ticket media is taken care of - and when I'm solo, I don't eat big meals so the food part isn't all that much - and if I couple my visits with a work trip, the airfare is covered... so I can't complain at all. But I also have a side gig that I do directly for the WDC that has also covered a number of additional trips over the past 4 years. This year when it's all said and done, I'll hit WDW 5x (at 3 so far) and DL 2x. Prior to our DVC membership, it was once per year as a family, plus whatever times I could tack on to a work trip.

Hi,
I have been lurking around here for quite a while. I actually remember reading the some stuff when this thread first started out and have meant to join a few times. Since you need a new guy so that you can get DDCV going, sign me up!

Well you should definitely recuse yourself, since you got it last time! :rotfl:

To all the new guys - I'm truly sorry for what is about to happen. An arms race of sorts has just begun to see who can get in the last word before this thread is closed. I would not be surprised if this thread adds 10 or 15 pages today. Hide the women and children, this will get ugly. :rotfl2:

1. You should slap yourself silly for thinking such a thing

2. This is a good thing. And I applaud you for it. There IS more to life than just Disney parks, even though I should slap myself silly for saying such a thing! :) We too try to do other things, despite going to WDW and DL as often as we do. We're talking about possibly hitting Gettysburg and D.C. next year - we haven't been to D.C. since my DW was pregnant with our middle son, and DD is now old enough to appreciate it as well as the boys. The World and the Land are fabulous places, but there are definitely so many other great places to explore and enjoy as well.

And yes... the novelty CAN wear off. My 14 yo has recently had the audacity to say that he's getting bored with it all... so sadly, next year is looking to be a less Disney-centric year for us as a family. Sure I'll still go on my solo adventures, and perhaps I'll do something with the younger two together, but I think (at least at this point) that we'll probably just make one trip later in the year and that'll be it. OR perhaps we'll still do Florida, but try for Vero or stay on property but hit Universal or Sea World again, or maybe try for Hilton Head. I'm not too thrilled about it, but I don't want to turn him off to family adventures either, especially since we're planning a trip to Hawaii in 2013 and we want him to go and enjoy it - the clock is ticking and he's off to college in 4 yrs. He's already talking about getting a summer job next summer working at Scout camp, so he'd be gone 6 days per week for 9 weeks of the summer. Gotta enjoy the time left and not make it something he doesn't want any part of. Even the cruise we were talking about up until just a few weeks ago might have to change. That might end up being just a couple thing leaving the kids with the grandparents or something... we're still not sure.
