both quotes obviously from the Dis site:
Both are for the exact same time frame, 7 nites, 8 day adult PH, basic Disney dining plan

BTW, I didn't know where to put this:confused3
Anyhow, what a difference your plan can make!!!
HTHS

Same section of same resort? Same combination of adults and children?

I'm confused. What do the 2 different quotes have to do with the poll?

I also don't understand the point of this at all either - the poll or the 2 quotes. What is the question?

You would not get 2 different prices on the Disney site if all things were exactly equal, so something is different between the two - whether a special offer, room type, date, etc.

What dates, resort, and adult/child configuration are those supposed to represent?

The poll is asking if you find it best to book using Disney's site and is related to the quotes because the quotes are for the exact same itinerary(ies).
So, 7 nites, 8 day Ph for 2 adults, DDP (basic, 2 adults), same hotel, same grade of room but huge price difference if you didn't know Disney is offering free dining~which is NOT the discount shown on their booking page.
My point being that if you are uninitiated perhaps booking on the Disney site isn't the least expensive way to go. I dunno, just thought it was interesting.
:confused3Certainly didn't mea to be obtuse.:confused3

I still do not understand what is the difference in the prices.

Is one with room and tickets and paying for the dining plan? Is one room and tickets with "free" dining? Is one room and tickets with a PIN code? Could you be more specific?

And the poll does not make sense either. You used a multi-answer format for the poll, so I could check all three answers and they would all show up on the results, so the sum of the answers can be greater than the number of people voting.

And my real choice is "Other" - If you know what you are doing, you may get the lowest price by working through the Disney Site but then again there may still be less expensive methods. If you do not know what you are doing, you may be better off having an expert handle your reservations.

I'm kind of confused too I guess.... yes, you can price out everything through the normal ways on the Disney website and it's not going to "tell" you what discounts are available. Now, if you go "tickets and packages" tab at the top you can click on "special offers" or "getaways and vacation packages" that will give you what the current discounts and specials are. You can then book through those special links to get the appropriate discount (if available) :thumbsup2

I don't think that Disney "tells" you that there's a discount through the regular booking channel because discounts are limited to availability, date and room type. It's like any other website, they're not GOING to tell you what the discount is. You kind of have to be looking for it.

Personally, I do think that booking with Disney is the way to go....only because I like everything in one place, I like being able to call them or chat if I have a question and I like that everything is neatly tied together. We don't need the assistance of a travel agent because we'd rather plan our own trip and we like to have the control over changes that we have when we go through Disney.

Sorry but I have to agree with the other posters. Even after reading your second post I still do not understand what you are asking.

If course a discount price is better - your invoices do not tell the entire picture. One must be with a discount and one without - but you can not tell that from what you posted.

I personally always do it myself through disney - I like to call - not online.

Anytime you visit the disney.com site to get a price quote on a vacation if you want the promo that is out you have to click on special offers, booking off the main page is always rack rate. Nothing new there.

I guess the point is you could overpay booking on the Disney site if you don't know enough to click through the special offers. That is true. Always has been true.

But that doesn't make it not best to book through the Disney site. It makes it not best to book without knowing what all the available options may be.

It doesn't necessarily make it better to book through a TA either - they don't always know what deals are even available, unfortunately.

I give up:confused3
It makes perfect sense to me that if you are uninitiated on the Disney site you can pay 3 or more different prices for the exact same package. So my question is do you think it is always best to book on the Disney site. For instance I do the booking in our family and booked the lower priced of the 2 packages, my husband who does not book our trips did NOT see the special offers and instead chose the packages offered at the bottom of the booking area and was priced out (for the EXACT) same vacation at the higher price.

Yeah, I suppose if people are uninformed they could end up paying more than they have to. The bottom line is that they need to research. A woman I work with wanted to take her kid to WDW. Thought it would be just another theme park but Mickey Mouse themed, no big deal. She booked her trip a month ahead of time for the end of April. She had no idea about ADRs, no idea how busy it would be, no park touring plans, and paid rack rate. She came back astonished at how much she missed out on and talked about how much she would do different next time. Someone who doesn't take the time to really research could end up SOL like this on their first Disney trip. Same goes for someone who relies heavily on a travel agent if the agent does not specialize in Disney.

I don't think there is ever a discount on the general booking page, but FD is the discount at the top of the special offers page.

Your right. FD can save a ton of money over paying rack rate for everything and adding the DP.

I know you said you weren't sure where to put this post ... it would have fit nicely on the discount codes and rates board (a subforum of the resorts board) :thumbsup2
