The Deluxe Dining That Was Not Supposed To Happen - with lots of PICTURES!!!

I read your last thread of reviews and am SO GLAD I found this one, too!

Looking forward to all the food porn to come...

WOW people sitting on the floor? that is weird! For a signature restaurant it seems like they would tell people not to do something like that because it does make the restaurant lose the class.
But i'm glad your meal was good there I'm glad Tyler was able to enjoy his meal. That is a huge dessert you had!! Were you able to finish it?

Someone help me up, I think I've fainted. :faint:

Those pictures were so delicious. :cloud9:

cute pictures!!

My dd loves to get the flatbread pizza - made "her" way - picky I know - but it works so its her fav restaurant - she was having blood sugar "issues" and I was worried about her and this restaurant, but the chef and servers were AWESOME about subsitutions (I worked on the price points!)

and we had a great WISHES view - but dd preferred being outside - but we did love watching the water pageant!

thanks for sharing!

I just finished your other review and I'm psyched to read this one! You do awesome reviews and the children are absolutely darling :)

I just finished reading your reviews and I really love it. Amazing pics you got. It looks you really had a great time. Looking forward for the next review. :)

Some of our pictures were taken by Tyler and I mistakenly did not ask to see them before we decided they were keepers, I simply asked him if he got the picture...that is why some of them are blury. He loved the picture taking and has his own camera (which the kitten has since knocked off the desk and broken!) and Skye was always the one setting up food pictures and making sure we took them. Thanx for reading along!

Glad you liked my reviews. I do try to create at least an image that my kids ate darling...doesn't always work but I try! :rotfl2:

Yes, we did not have many issure with substituting food for the kids or changing things a little. In fact, I cannot think of any. They were really good about taking care of the kids. We did not even venture outside. Wishes was over by the time we went up there (due to the change in time) so we just watched the castle change colors and then the water parade. Thanx for reading!

It was delicious...and it looks pretty plain to see the pictures but the flavor was anything but plain!

I hope you are travelling soon because otherwise you may gain 600 pounds from all the research you are doing! :rotfl2:

Yes, that was very odd and dare I say disappointing! I think Disney is so afraid of offending anyone that they just let people do whatever they want. I was expecting this nice, quite-ish, venue that just dripped class but that is not what California Grill is...and I think I blame the dining plan. I know, how can I do that when I love it so much? Well, because if I was not willing to dress the part or if I had kids that would not fit into the venue, I would not dine there, dining plan or not. I know my kids know how to behave and can handle the waiting and the meal so I go. But I think when the dining plan came along, it opened up venues that a lot of people would never even have considered before and because they have pre-paid for it, they fell they are entitled to go whereever they want and wear whatever they want and do whatever they want. That's a really difficult thing for people who do follow the rules to swallow. We were tired too and we would have liked to sit (especially the kids who see the other people sitting on the floor in a signature restaurant and wonder why they cannot...and they cound not!) but we were not about to sit right on the floor in the restaurant.

And no, I did not eat it all but it was good and nice to have a variety of flavors of banana.

And Tyler felt better after eating soI really think it was more a combination of being sick before our trip and therefore not eating much and then only having had one small meal all day.

Ok, I just spoke to my parents. They had dinner at Teppan Edo last night. I have never been there but have heard good things. I purposly did not tell my dad too much about it ( I made their ARDs) becuase he is not a people person. He does not intermingle with strangers too much.

So they arrived early and said the place was packed. So my father complained about that. Then they had to wait about 20 minutes past their ADR time...so he moaned about that. Then he went to to bathroom and saw the tables and knew he'd be having dinner with strangers and moaned about that. I want to say, my mother listed a couple of other things he complained about too. Their waiter was a hawiian guy named Tom...:rotfl2:

She had shrimp and he had fillet. A woman next to them began talking to them about Chicago and apparently Dad did not like that. Then a young guy from LSU started talking to them and asked my dad if he was a Notre Dame (not allowed to even say in our house) and he said no, he does not really follow all that stuff...but then my mom said that Notre Dame was banned as her SIL and son are Michigan fans!!! Well, he did not talk to them anymore.:rotfl2:

They also ordered the tempura appetizer which they enjoyed. She did not mention desset though.

And through all of that they end review was...it was not someplace Dad would have picked but it has ended up being his FAVORITE meal of the trip so far...up until now it was Kona (which they actually almost cancelled) and before that LeCellier (which he would have been happy to eat every meal at the whole trip)...so if my father can overcome his adversion to people and have this place be on the top of his list, IT MUST BE GOOD!

Great review Sherry! i have always wanted to eat at the California Grill, but was unsure that my 6 (some picky!!!) children would be able to find something they liked! Maybe we will try it for DH's 40th birthday! All of my children love Mac and Cheese!:rotfl:

Thanks for sharing!

WOW...you are a busy one!!! SIX!!! I can hardly handle two some days! But while the food was really good, I think there was enough plain-ish items for picky people. Half of yours will count as adults right? I think everyone could find something there...and they seemed very eager to please so I think substituting or getting the embelishments on the side may not be a huge deal. And the Mac & Cheese was wonderful...if I were paying out of pocket and not wanting to spend the money, I might even order the adult version.

Thanx for reading!

I just wanted to say thanks for the great reviews & pics. I read through your last set of reviews (kind of late) and was glad to see that you started a new one. :goodvibes

LOL, your dad sounds like quite the character. ;)

I could go to eat with him and remain quiet, looks like he has great taste, I've got ADRs at Teppan Edo, Le Cellier and Kona...and 6 other restaurants too. :lmao:

Thanks for their review. :goodvibes

Sorry I have been gone so long! I am trying to get back but I have a little girl planning her 5th birthday in a little less than a month and wants a formal tea party. So I am racking my brain and scouring web sites for girly supplies and easy tea party food for girls ranging from 4 to 6. Any suggestions?

Oh I wish I had a little girl! Hopefully I will someday...

I love birthday parties. How about you come up with a theme for the party. Like butterflies and flowers. Then you could have all the food be shaped appropriately. Like you could just make little tea sandwiches in whatever flavors would suit (pb&j, tuna, egg salad, ham and cheese, plain cheese, turkey, whatever) and use cookie cutters to make them into shapes. You could do the same with lunch meat and/cheese with or instead of sandwiches.

Have you ever seen the fruit flower things? Where they take cut fruit and make it look like a flower bouquet. You could do something similar to that for the flowers part. Little mini fruit kabobs that look like little flowers. You take something like kiwi or pineapple or cantelope and slice it and use a flower cookie cutter and then use grapes for the center and stick it on a stick. If you search for edible bouquets you can find tons of ideas...

Then, of course, you could have little mini cookies/cupcakes for desert.

How fun.

I have just caught up with your report. It was wonderful. Your children couldn't be more cuter.:lovestruc
