The DaSilva's 1st Cruise! And, yay! It's Disney!! 1/23/10 Western Magic

Believe it or not, I am back!! At last...

Day 4 - Cozumel!

So we made plans the night before to meet up with TraciM and her family at 8:00.

In

the

morning!!!

What were we thinking?! We are on vacation!! Needless to say, we were not even up at 8! Sorry Traci! :rolleyes1

So we get up, get dressed and head to Topsiders for some breakfast. It was gorgeous out so we sat outside to eat. While we were there, Jess, Traci's DD found us and we made NEW plans to meet to head to the beach. Can NOT remember the name of it...

The kids insist they do not want to go swimming at the beach. Famous last words...

Okay.... so we head out. Once we get out of the "city" part of Cozumel it was very pretty. One thing to note: If you are a safely fanatic, don't ride a cab in Cozumel!! Seatbelts, speed limits, traffic signs??? Who needs those?

We finally make it, safe and semi-sound, to the beach! Yay! First thing we see?

Cruisepix144.jpg

Pretty huh? These guys pretty much have the run of the bar and shops and seem friendly. Certainly not afraid of people!

Next site...

Cruisepix147.jpg

Wow! What gorgeous water!!

What do you think comes next?

Mommy! We want to go swimming!! :sad2: Did I come prepared for that, even though I KNEW it was going to happen? Nope... Shockingly, they just happen to sell bathing suits here! So the kiddoes are now up a new suit each and they weren't even that expensive. :thumbsup2

Now we're ready!

You will note I am not wearing a bathing suit. That was some COLD water!!

Me and Traci doing the same!

The grown folks talk, some others from our DISmeet show up, and we just have a great relaxing time. Happen to look over and see this unforgettable site:

Cruisepix151.jpg

Wow! Does that bring back spring break memories or what? :lmao: Fortunately for Thomas, his cup only has soda in it!

One last picture of our beach paradise:

Cruisepix152.jpg

We head out around noonish as I have a Vista Spa Alone Time appointment that I am not going to miss! Jess goes with us as she is tired...

One funny thing, the DD was REALLY concerned about getting back to the ship on time. She would constantly ask what time it was and remind us that Brent said the time at Cozumel was different than ship time. Worried we would be left behind. Like we are going to let that happen!!

We get back to the Magic, DH takes the kids to lunch and then the pool while I get ready for my spa time!! I have been looking forward to this for months!!!

I get to Vista Spa, fill out my info card and Claudia comes to get me and show me my locker, robe and slippers. I had booked the Alone Time which is 105 minutes of pampering: a bathing ritual, foot cleansing/massage, treatment of choice, and tea ceremony. I chose the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Facial for my treatment.

Claudia brings me out to my own veranda with a huge hot tub and a big bed/lounger that looked really comfortable. Next time I am bringing a camera and taking pix. Also, booking longer time! First, I sit down, take off my slippers and recieve a wonderful foot washing/massage that included a massage and exfoliation from the knee down. I have used a bunch of different exfoliation products and this is one of the best I have seen for one major reason...

Most of the salt scrubs you see have issues with the oil separating from the rest of the product so you have to mix it up again every time you use it. This was formulated to not separate. Smelled great too! When that was over Claudia set the hot tub, brought me a glass of water with a spare pitcher of ice water and into the tub I went! It was wonderful! I had an awesome view of Cozumel but was facing mostly out to sea. I could even see the coast of mainland Mexico from there. It probably could have been a bit more relaxing if I would have stopped changing position constantly to get a different view off the verandah! :rotfl: Also read for awhile.

Next time I am going to live here!

I relaxed in the tub for probably 30 - 40 minutes and Claudia comes back to help me out and we go in for the facial. That lasted about 50 minutes but seemed much longer because it was so relaxing! The products she used smelled fantastic and I have to say I could really see a difference when she was done! I am a makeup and skin care product junkie so I had purposefully NOT written down on my info card not to do the sales pitch. Mainly because, well, I do love my products! But also, I had heard so much on the boards about the really hard sales pitch that I wanted to see if it was all that bad. If it was, I can say no with the best of them!

Speaking of sales pitches... Totally off the subject, but funny....

The DH and I went to WDW for our honeymoon. While we were checking into our off-site hotel (before we discovered our fave All Star Vacay Homes) there was a table with info about time-share sales of a new resort area. If we agreed to sit through a short, 30 minute, :rotfl2: tour and sales pitch, we would get either 2 free tix to WDW or $100. Well, we had our tickets, but $100??? Who can't use more of those? So we set up a time to go. It was a really nice place I have to say, but we get to the sales pitch part. And I am sure y'all know the deal, they really start pressuring to sell.... TODAY.... or you will miss out on this opportunity of a lifetime!! Now first of all, the DH is an engineer and for fun likes to create new and exciting spreadsheets to keep up with money, expenses, all that stuff. This is fun for him... :sad2:

So he keeps asking this poor salesman about interest rates, insurance, homeowners fees (salesman not too happy to answer that one, goes to get boss first) other stuff like that. We are totally bored and want to leave, but they keep pushing. Finally, Bert starts playing with the now 3 sales people who are hovering over us. They tell us one last time how this is the chance of a lifetime, it's an unbelieveable price, practically giving the things away and , no, we can't go home and think about it. If we leave, WE FORFEIT OUR CHANCE FOREVER!!! Can you hear the echo??? OOOOHHHHH!!

So Bert whips out his trusty calculator (on a honeymoon, mind you!) and shows them how the interest actually does work out over the life of the loan! He is almost laughing and at this point, I think they are willing to pay us double to get us out of there before anyone else hears what the DH is saying. 2.5 hours later we have our $100 and 2.5 hours of our lives that we will never see again!

Okay, so back to the cruise! So I am not afraid of a little hard sell.

How will that go?

Will she keep me there for hours trying to sell products?

We'll see...

After my facial, Claudia escorts me back out to the verandah and I climb into the lounger which has a fabulous looking tray of fresh fruit and.....

CHOCOLATE DIPPED STRAWBERRIES!!!!!

She brings a pot of hot tea that I like, but if you don't like herbal tea, you probably won't. Next year, bottle of champagne...

She leaves me out there for probably an hour and finally it is time to get back to the family. Here it comes.... THE SALES PITCH!!! OH, NO!!!!

She showed me a couple of things that I had commented on during the facial, told me about them, showed me the prices. Answered some questions and said if I didn't want anything right then that I could come back during the cruise and get it. Can also order online. That was it, no hard sell. I have had pushier sales people at the mall. The products were not cheap, and next year I might actually buy some, but as I had just reloaded my arsenal at home pre-cruise, I couldn't justify it then.

Got dressed and headed out, checked out the rainforest spa, which I kept telling myself I was going to do every day, but never did! Next year....

Get back to the cabin to sleeping family. Slackers! Get them up and moving. Pour me and the DH a glass of wine, order a cheese tray from room service and send the kids up to Pluto's Dog House for a chicken fingers tray to tide them over til dinner.

AAHHH, relaxing...

The show tonight is the filler show they have til the new villains show starts in March. It was singing, but that's all. I had heard on the boards that kids do not really appreciate this show so we decided to skip it. I can't WAIT to see the new villians show!

Instead we go to the A Pirate's Life For Me gameshow in Studio Sea. It was really fun! They picked out 2 parent and kid teams to "help" the pirate girl and guy that were running the show. That one was really fun. By this time we were out to sea well and truly! Rough seas tonight, not a good night to wear heels... Made it harder to keep balance!

After that we went to see Alfred & Seymour in Rockin' Bar D. They were absolutely hysterical!!

As with Freddy Fusion, I wasn't expecting a lot, but boy was I wrong! Such a funny show! I could have listened to them for hours.

After that dinner time! We were in Animator's Palate for "show" night tonight. The food was good and we got a bottle of the Fairy Tale champagne we had tried at the wine tasting. I really like that! Had a great time with our table mates as usual!

After dinner we took the kids to the cabin to get ready for bed and found this:

Next up.... Day 5 - Grand Cayman!

Day 5 - Grand Cayman!!

Whoa! 2 days posted in one day!!! Go me!

We opt out of going to see Grand Cayman. Thought about it, but when we heard it would take about 30 - 45 minutes just to get OVER there! Don't think so! We go to breakfast:

Cruisepix155.jpg

After that, take the kids to the club and Bert & I take a stroll around the ship. All that strenuous activity just wipes the DH out and he decides he needs a nap. So I leave him to it and decide to do some laundry. Find the laundry, take entirely too long to figure out how to make the detergent dispenser work I am ready to go.

Oh, yeah, got to figure out the machines.....

....10 minutes later....

Okay, we're doing laundry! Several others are doing the same and when I get there a girl is unloading hers into a dryer. We chat a bit, she tells me about how long the cycles are and leaves. Good sign! She knows when to come back for her clothes... Right...

Actually have a fun time chatting with a couple of other ladies when I get back a couple of minutes before my washers are done. No dryers, so I go grab my book and go back. The lady I spoke to earlier is NOT there. Her laundry is though! Dry as can be! Finally, about 20 minutes later, here comes her husband (I guess). Yay! He will, naturally, take all the laundry out of the 2 dryers and I can put mine in.

HA!

He proceeds to open 1 dryer door.

He takes out 1 item, folds it, places it on the table.

Takes out a second item, folds it, places it on the table.

Does this for every item in both dryers!! I restrained myself to a couple of pointed remarks to others that were there witnessing the same unbelieveable inconsideration!!! Needless to say, that kind of person just never gets it...

Anyway, finally get the laundry done, go get the DH and it's time for lunch. We get the kids and go to Lumiere's. Good lunch! Afterwards, the DH decides he needs another nap.

Are you kidding me??!!

Whatever! It's his vacay too... The kids and I hit the pool and they watch movies while I read in the sun. This is the life!

Tonight we get to see The Princess & the Frog for our show! I was so glad as we had not seen it and I was really wanting to. Also...

It's PIRATE NIGHT!!!! Woo, hoo!! pirate:

Oh, wait, I hear the blender going in my kitchen!!!

Margarita's!!

Part 2 in a bit...

Fabulous updates! Had a good laugh reading about your husband whipping out the calculator at the timeshare and also the the husband folding cloths one at a time out of the dryer.

I think it was Lemonaid Thomas had. Whatever it was I need to get me some. Might help with bedtime!!:rotfl2:

Loving your report! It looks like a fabulous time. We are planning the western caribbean cruise in Feb 2011. Hope you don't mind my asking but how far in advance did you get the code for free sailing for children?

Thanks and looking forward to the next update!

Erika

Day 5 - part 2!

Okay, so we've put the DH down for his nap so the kids and I decide to go do some Hidden Mickey searching. I had bought the book at home and finally we had time to go hunt!!

The book had a great format, it would tell you where to start and give you a clue. If the clue wasn't enough, it would give you a hint. Then tell you where to go next. We covered pretty much the entire ship and didn't even finish the book!!

While we were on our hunt, we ran into Thomas & Jess, Traci's kids and they joined us for the game. I really had a great time doing this as I saw some great pictures and things I probably wouldn't have noticed otherwise. Great activity!!

Stopped at Animator's Palate when we found the hidden mickey's in there for some pix:

Cruisepix160.jpg

Cruisepix162.jpg

After spending most of the afternoon hunting, we went back to the cabin. MY turn for a nap!! :cool1:

Bert & the kids went up to the pool and were back about an hour later. Time to get ready for showtime and dinner time!

And finally....

Pirate Night!!!!

Our show tonight was The Princess & The Frog. It was absolutely fantastic!! I had not seen it before so I was really lookiing forward to it. While I was getting ready Bert took the kids to get pictures with Captain Jack. We dressed Kevin in his pirate outfit and off they went...

Got LOTS of pirate themed characters as you can see!!

Went to the show and LOVED it!!! If you have not seen Princess & the Frog you have got to go! It was awesome! So funny and Tiana is my kind of princess! No waiting around for some fairy godmother to bail her out of her misery, she is working her way out! The animation is just beautiful and the characters are all great! Go see the movie.....

Afterwards we went to the promenade lounge for a cocktail and some music to wait for dinner. Pirate Menu tonight...

2nd At Sea Day and Character breakfast!!!!

Too cool! I love those pirates made from canteloupe and cucumber!
Am so enjoying your trip report. Thanks for sharing!

I am really enjoying your report so far! I have a question for you though---did you leave the kiddos in the room sleeping when you and DH went to the adult things? Were they ok? I have 2 boys--6 and 8, and DH thought I was nuts when I suggested doing this. However, I cannot see them staying in the kids clubs until 11 PM. Just wanted to get your feedback on that.

Joining in and loving your report! We had Mia for our assistant server in 2008; she is a doll! Here she is with our daughters at the character breakfast.

Loving your Trip report! Just returned from 2/20 on the Magic. We were unable to do Grand Caymen- turned around and did Bahamas instead and it poured the night of the pirate party so they did it inside. We ended up going to bed. All the more reason to book another cruise!!! Love the pics!!:thumbsup2 Can't wait for more.

I was not sure at first, but after pretty much threatening death, we gave it a shot. We got them totally ready for bed and let them finish watching a movie that was on. We told them not to answer to door to anyone, even if someone said they were us. We also told them that this was their 1 and only chance. They were pretty excited that we would leave them alone! We also said that we might test them by knocking on the door and if they answered, that would be their last shot at staying alone. We never did actually do that, but they asked if we did. I asked them if they heard anyone knock and they said yes (turned out to be the DD of a friend that they had been playing with earlier) and I said, good thing you didn't answer. That first night we did hang out in the hall several doors down to see if they would look out or anything, but they didn't.

AFter that first time, they were so wiped out by the end of the day that they were mostly asleep before we even left! I think of the 5 or so times we did this, only 1 night was the DD still awake watching TV, but she is a night owl anyway.

I think it pretty much boils down to how much you trust them to do what you say in this circumstance. They knew not leaving that room was all about their safety so the temptation to test the rules was pretty diminished. We don't ever leave them alone at home, but I felt fine doing it here. There are always so many people around and we made it very clear that they were not to leave no matter what. That if there was some emergency we would come get them. And if they had a problem, showed them how to get the right person on the phone...

Hope that helps!

That sounds like an EXCELLENT excuse for another cruise!! Hate that it rained for you...

Great picture! Mia said she is hoping that she will be starting school to get her masters degree this fall. She was finishing out her current contract on our cruise and was going to be on the European cruises and was hoping she would be done after that! She was great and we wish her the best of luck, but will miss seeing her on our next cruise!
