Congratulatiosn to Heather & Darren, welcome to the world Brayden :lovestruc

Can't wait to see pics.

Congrats to baby Brayden and his parents!!! How fun to have a St Patty's day baby - can't wait to see pics!

Thanks so much everyone!! I really wasn't expecting to have him so soon, and I'm so glad I didn't have to be induced. It was such a quick and easy labor, I feel very blessed. Although I would have went through hell and back if it was the only way to get him here. He definitely stole my heart right from the beginning!

Here's the birth story and some pictures. Anyone bothered by blood or anything, skip the pics (they're not THAT bad, but just warning you)

I started having back pains around 1am. They would come every few minutes or so, I didn't really time them because I knew it would be a waste of time. Oh, and I was STARVING. I had a pb&j sandwich, a small bag of cheetos, sunflower seeds and a string cheese lol.

The pain slacked off around 4am, so I went to bed feeling fine.
I wake up when Darren gets up to get ready for work. When he came to tell me goodbye, I pinched him because he wasn't wearing green. I wasn't going to tell him about the pains, but since it started hurting a little again, I told him about it.
He wanted to go straight to the hospital. I told him it was NOTHING and it would just be pointless to do anything. He called into work anyway, so I told him I'd wait until my doctor's office opened at 8:30am and call them.

I knew they would tell me to go to labor and delivery no matter what, so I started getting ready. I figured when they sent us home, we could go get something to eat or shopping. Darren thought I was insane for putting on makeup while I was in labor lol. I told him I WASN'T in labor, don't get your hopes up. I didn't have any other symptoms besides back pain.
Darren was SO nervous the whole time. I assured him that it most definitely won't be the real thing. We'd go in, they'd hook me up to the monitor, say nothing's happening and send us home.

8:30 rolled around so I called. They told me to go to L&D. My back pain wasn't even as bad as the night before. Before we left I hung up the rest of the baby's clothes and added the rest of the stuff to my bag. I almost didn't bring it, but I didn't want to take any chances.

We get to the hospital, they hook me up and I had 3 or 4 contractions so the nurse said she'd check me. I remember thinking she'd say he was low, because that's what EVERYONE says when I get examined.
Sure enough, "The baby is really l....You're four centimeters!" She sounded really shocked.

Everything got hectic after that. I was just in shock and tired. I had only gotten 3 hours of sleep the night before. I asked her if she was serious and she said yes and they were admitting me. We get into a room and get my IV going and everything. They said I could get my epidural at any time but I wanted to wait so it wouldn't slow the labor down.

The doctor came in a little while later to break my water and said I was 5 1/2-6 centimeters.

The contractions were getting more painful now, and they were ALL in my back. I decided to get the epidural before it was too late since things seemed to be progressing quickly. The anesthesiologist was great. He was very gentle and explained what he was doing and what I would feel. I was worried about it hurting but the worst thing was the cold feeling that shot down my leg for a second.

My family came in to visit for awhile and I was hoping to take a nap. The monitor wasn't showing any contractions and I wasn't feeling anything, so I was sure I had stalled.
The nap never happened because the nurse came in to check me and said I was complete and 0 station. She told me to sit up for a bit and then we'd try pushing. I was in another world, it didn't seem like it was happening to me.

After I found out I was 10 cm lol

The nurses had me push for about 3 contractions to see if he'd come down.

The doctor came in and checked me. She said, "Plus 3 station. I'm going to get dressed." 8O This was it. I pushed for about 3 more contractions, 3 pushes for each one. It's HARD to hold your breath for 10 seconds and those nurses are the slowest counters ever! A few times I would lose the push because I let out my air.

The doctor said, ok his heart rate dropped on that last one, I don't know how much more he'll be able to tolerate. I'm going to use the vacuum. Then I got scared and had him out on the next contraction. His cord was around his neck which is why his heart rate dropped. I was so nervous about the cord, but I'm glad it was okay.

I can't believe how fast it went and how easy it was. I had him 5 hours after getting to the hospital. I swear I never felt any pain at all.
I feel so lucky and blessed for such an easy labor. The nurses all said they loved express labors like that and I said I bet the mommies don't mind them either!
If I had gone to 39 weeks, he'd probably be close to 9lbs! I had an ultrasound on Monday and they said he was 6lbs. 7oz, so that was off!

He was born on March 17th, 3:31pm. 7lbs. 6oz, 19 inches long. He got a 9/9 on his apgar and started crying right away (relief!)
I've never been so happy and so in love. He's just perfect to me! He's doing so good with nursing and he's got his first visit with the pediatrician tomorrow morning at 8:30.

I wish we hadn't had to stay an extra night from Brayden getting jaundice, because he HATED being unwrapped under that light. Oh, and an interesting thing. A nurse told us that by using the vacuum to get him out caused his red blood count to rise and make him get jaundice. Something to do with the bruising. I wish she hadn't used the vacuum. I never heard of that being a cause for it.

now time for some baby spam!

Congratulations!! You are very lucky to have had a relatively easy labor! He looks perfect! I love the name Brayden...irish and born on St. Patrick's Day. :thumbsup2

What a beautiful baby boy! In a lot of the pictures you can definitely see how he looks just like your DH!

Congratulations Heather...you have a cute little guy there! Glad to hear you had an easy delivery. Ahh..he looks so small in his car seat. Reading your birth story brough back so many memories of having my DS. It really was on of the best experiences I have ever had. I still can't believe that it was 6 mos ago already and that my mom were looking at stuff and ideas for a birthday party already!
I didn't know I was having contractions until I went in to have my cervix opened up bc I was not progressing and DS was getting bigger and bigger. I probably would have not gone to the hopsital until my water broke which I would probably have never made it bc as soon as my water broke I was ready to go! I didn't feel contractions until after my water broke and then they were fast and hard! The nurses were talking about me in the nurses station bc I was handeling it all so well!
We also had to stay in the hospital an extra 2 days bc of jaundice. Apparently it is also when the blood types don't quite agree btwn O and A. We were soo ready to go home by that time! We have some funny pictures of him "sunbathing". they had him proped up bc of him spitting up and he looked like he was sunbathing on the beach and all he needed yet was a drink in his hand.:rotfl:
Glad to hear everyone is doing good and that you can have your junk food back again!

So glad to hear you had an easy labor Heather! That's wonderful! Bummer that they had to use the vacuum but glad they didn't have to resort to a c-section to deliver him. Brayden is so precious. I love all the pictures. Congratulations again!! :goodvibes

Oh my god Heather he is so precious!! Lucky you with the labor. I also had all back labor but with my first it was 12 hours & with my second son I had the epidural. You will have a card coming your way & I cannot wait to pick him up a little Disney surprise when I go in May! Congratulations!!:yay:

What a beautiful baby boy! In a lot of the pictures you can definitely see how he looks just like your DH!
