The D.C. Sniper--RE: Lawyer

Lawyers for sniper suspect Lee Boyd Malvo challenged the constitutionality of Virginia's death penalty law in court papers filed yesterday. They also asked the judge to rule graphic crime scene photos inadmissible.....

etc.

I'm not trying to start a debate about the death penalty, but isn't it ironic that this kid gleefully killed people and now is challenging a law about putting people to death? I guess what's good for the goose isn't right for the gander

Oh and don't show the jury pictures of it. It might make him look bad.

Isn't it funny when it's time for the killers to have a trial that they fight it every inch of the way and drag their feet? The poor victims usually didn't even get a few minutes.....

I am not surprised that they would contest the death penalty. Just because they enjoy killing people doesn't mean that a killer wants to die him/herself.

As for a lawyer defending him...that is his job. And remember, sometimes the lawyers are court appointed...they really don't have a choice. Someone has to defend killer, even the snipers, to see that they get a fair trial. That is part of our system. And even if they can not stand their client or what they did, they still have a responsibility to defend them to the best of their ability. If they don't, the client has a case for appeal if found guilty. After all, many try to claim incompetancy of their lawyers on appeal anyway...even when they did a great job!

the system works because there are lawyers who will protect the rights of everyone. I am not sure if this lawyer is court appointed or not but he is raising the right issues. The Virginia statute is new and untested and it would be malpractice not to raise the issues being raised.
