I just thought that I would let everyone know what happened to me last week.

My dh and I were to begin our vacation Friday 8/23. We had both booked our time off well in advance with our respective employers and were all set to leave after work Friday night for our week in New Hampshire. At about 9 a.m., my boss comes into my office and says, " If you and your husband can change your vacation dates, I will send you on an all expense paid cruise from Boston To Bermuda". So I laughed and said "great, thanks" but he was serious.

Because of an extenuating family emergency, family members had to cancel their honeymoon cruise and did not have insurance to cover it. They were trying to get someone to purchase the trip from them and my employer was going to pay for it and send me on it. What a great guy, huh?

The trip was to leave Sept. 1 so I called my husband at work to see if he could rearrange his vacation date. I was all set on changing dates since my boss had just offered me the cruise. My husband was unable to change dates on such short notice. When I called my ds to tell her, she said " I can change my vacation dates". I felt bad because my ds and I both really wanted to go, but I felt so bad about leaving my dh behind. It would mean that we would have to wait until our DCL cruise in Jan. to have a vacation together as it would have been too difficult for me to take 2 weeks in a row off. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you...."Yeah thanks for the gift of the cruise and by the way, I'm taking 2 weeks off instead of just one!" That would have been very unfair to my boss.

Everyone thought I was crazy. The cruise terminal is about 20 minutes from my house and since I am an obsessive planner, I already had 1/2 of my cruise clothes packed for January, and I was pretty much ready to go but I guess it was not to be this time.

I keep consoling myself with the thought that nothing can compare to DCL anyway even if it was a free cruise in the honeymoon suite!:p

Guess I just wanted everyone to commiserate with me.:(:(

IF DCL is the ONLY cruise you've ever taken.... you may actually be "pleasantly surprised" Especially since it's just you and DS going.

Have a wonderful time!

Kathy
