I am going to Disney World for the first time this July with my family for a 10 day / 9 night stay.

We plan to spend 2 days in Magic Kingdom and 1 day each in Epcot, HS, and AK (so 5 days in the theme parks). We also wanted to do the water parks but that is going to be on two separate days where do not go to any theme parks? (we are doing Disney Springs and Hoop De Doo revue in the evening on those days).

How many days do I need on my Park Hopper Plus ticket? I was under the impression that I had to factor the water park days in my park hopper # of days but it seems like those are extras and I do not need to do that. Is this correct? Should I give myself an extra day or two on the park hopper in case weather changes our plans or we change our minds and decide to go back to a park on another day?

1. 5 days.
2. Nope. Water parks days are entirely separate from theme park days.
They don't "interact."
3. Yup.
4. Correct.
6. No need to do that.
You can decide that at any time DURING your trip.
You can "upgrade" (add days,) if you like, but you cannot "downgrade."

For a 10 day visit I would plan 8 days in parks and two for breaks in between for water parks and relaxing. You will only touch the surface of WDW in 8 days.

Since your plan is to spend 5 days in the theme parks plus 2 days at the water parks, you need a 5-day, park-hopper plus ticket. That ticket will give you 5 days in the theme parks plus 5 separate visits valid for the WDW water parks, mini-golf, ESPN wide world of sports or a round of golf at Oak Trail. With this ticket and your current plan, you will actually end up with 3 extra "plus" visits so if you find you would like to do something on those days you haven't planned for a theme park or water park, you could go mini-golfing or even go back to a water park.
