River: River clutched her necklace, and swallowed. She felt sick thinking about Serefima losing her mom to the water. Now she knew why Serefima seemed to shy away from her, it was because of her powers, something she couldn't change. She looked t Serefima and practically whispered "I lost my parents too."

Toby: Toby put an arm around Alex holding her close to him. He leaned into her and whispered in her ear "you okay?" He asked because of the look she had at the water, and because of all of the parent talk.

Alex: Alex leaned into Toby and took a slightly jagged breath before shaking her head. "Not really. A bit upset," She whispered to him honestly taking another breath. Barely hearing River herself Alex sighed and tried to hide her face in Toby's arm.

Jack: Jack swam back to the top of the water, breaking the surface. Cleaning his face of the water he looked back at where the group was and frowned seeing Toby holding Alex. Seeing Toby and Alex so close made him upset but by the look on Toby's face he had a feeling something was wrong.

Alex: Alex leaned into Toby and took a slightly jagged breath before shaking her head. "Not really. A bit upset," She whispered to him honestly taking another breath. Barely hearing River herself Alex sighed and tried to hide her face in Toby's arm.

Jack: Jack swam back to the top of the water, breaking the surface. Cleaning his face of the water he looked back at where the group was and frowned seeing Toby holding Alex. Seeing Toby and Alex so close made him upset but by the look on Toby's face he had a feeling something was wrong.

Toby: Toby held Alex close, when he heard her response he looked at the group and said "well, it was nice talking with you guys, but I promised Alex a game of volleyball" he said making an excuse to get Alex away from the group with him. "it was nice to meet you Serefima" he said walking away with Alex. When they were far enough away he asked "what's wrong?"

Toby: Toby held Alex close, when he heard her response he looked at the group and said "well, it was nice talking with you guys, but I promised Alex a game of volleyball" he said making an excuse to get Alex away from the group with him. "it was nice to meet you Serefima" he said walking away with Alex. When they were far enough away he asked "what's wrong?"

Alex: Alex sighed and shook her head. "Everything," She mumbled quietly before speaking up a bit louder. "Everything is wrong. Back there talking about their parents and how they're gone, I wanted to relate to them but I can't. If I try my secret is going to be out and I can't even truly relate or help them anyway because I know my parents aren't dead. They just didn't want me. My own parents don't want me. I will never get to hear my mother's laugh, see my dad drink coffee in the morning, neither of them will ever see me blow out my birthday candles," Her voice broke in almost every word and un-shed tears appeared in her eyes before she continued. "Back there everything just hit me all at once, and it hurts knowing that no matter what I will never be able to be normal. Not just because of my powers. But because I can't ever be completely happy." Alex tucked her head in Toby's chest and her whole body shook as a quiet sob left her lips.

I wish more than anything that I could show your parents how amazing you are. But someone who gave you up doesn't deserve you. Alex you're the strongest most amazing person I have ever known. You're the first person I have told many of my secrets to, because I trust you" then he paused not knowing what else to say, "it's going to be okay" he whispered.

"Thank-you Toby," She said simply before hugging him again letting the last of her tears fall.

Toby: Toby smiled down at her "you're welcome" he said quietly. "I've been asking myself why I deserve a best friend like you" he said smiling and hugging her again.

She leaned back to look at Toby with a small smile," And if you 'accidentally' knocked that meathead over the head I wouldn't exactly be complaining. Don't even try to pretend you wouldn't want to either, I know you'd love to get one good swipe on him."

Toby: Toby shrugged, "okay, it sounds so silly, but it will be a huge step for me to show someone my 'true look'" he said using Alex's words. "Maybe tonight, after parents night, before we go to bed" he said smiling. He saw Alex look over at Jack and he laughed at her words.

So um I thought he liked her and now I'm jealous and mad and do you see how beautiful the sky is right now?" She said quickly looking at the sky trying to hide her embarrassment.

Toby: "yeah, I do. He wants to be there for you, that's why it drove him crazy when I put my hands on your shoulders. He wants to impress you by being nice to your friends, that's why he went over to talk to River. As much as I do want to throw something at him I do have to admit that he really is trying" he said waiting for Alex's response.
