Ever since I booked my next trip I've been saving all my coins in a bag in my closet. The idea was that my spending money would only come from the coins. I just got back from the bank - I've amassed $299 purely in coins! That pays for my park tickets!

Thank is GREAT! I have done this several times and was amazed how much you can collect in a year. Now I use my debit card more and my coin collection is alot less ...around $200 or less for a year.

its so much fun cashing in the coins. For our Cruise i was able to get the kids their passports plus have some spending:cool1:

We save the coins for all our big vacations - sometimes its 2-3 years worth!

That's great!!!! I tell people about the coin thing all the time. My newest addition to "the coin thing" is that when I return my empty bottles to the machine and get the receipt, I ask the cashier to give it to me all in quarters. Then I go home and they go right in my coin jar. Right now, I'm estimating that I have about $450 in there. I'm saving for a major "something" for my 50th b'day next year (hoping to have $1K by then)--- not sure what, but I want it to be something special and JUST for me since I never do anything for myself. The last "vacation" I had was earlier this week when I spent 3 days in the hospital for a hysterectomy and hernia repair!

Awesome!
We've started this too! Last trip we only started saving our coins a few months out so there was about $100 and we let the kids split it and add it to their spending money.
Right now we are 11 months out from a cross country driving trip to the Canadian Rockies. I am saving all of our change for spending money, buying gas cards every time I go grocery shopping, and saving reward points for hotels on the way there and back.
Having this much of a head start should work out great for us. I could easily pull it all out of a savings account when the trip time came, but this method is way more fun and isn't such a big chunk at one time:)
