:thumbsup2

Good food and atmosphere!

I had a fish sandwich with fries that was good, but I didn't like the coleslaw that came with it. My wife enjoyed her plate of shrimp and rice.

I haven't been to the one in CW yet but have visited the Mall of America location a few times. One of the things that really sets Bubba Gump's apart from other restaurants are the license plates. Whenever you require anything, just flip the plate so it says Stop Forrest Stop and whomever is going by, will immediately stop and attend to your needs. I have never had that "if only the waiter would look this way so I could get his attention" feeling at Bubba Gumps.

haven't been to the one in city walk but the one in chicago gets great reviews

Never been but I am very excited to go this year!!

Haven't been to the one at City Walk but it is always a must go to when we go to Charleston SC. The food has always been good and teh kids really enjoy it there.

been to the one at CityWalk (for review & pix, click in my sig)....we had a great time and great food :thumbsup2 (only downside is no reservation in advance or using roomkey for next available :sad2: )

We really enjoyed the atmosphere, but found the food to be just okay...But I must admit, I am a self proclaimed snob when it comes to seafood =)

We just went Saturday, and we were really disappointed.

Good point: friendly service, great atmosphere.

Bad points:
Food was so so. About the same as Red Lobster, but without the yummy cheese biscuits. Definitely not worth the price. We also felt really nickel and dimed. Our two little girls each had milk. It was $2.75!! For milk!!! And when my daughter asked for more milk we were charged again...no refills. Nothing extra comes with your food. My husband and I paid $18.99 for each entree, and nothing comes with it. Want a basket of bread? Hand over 5 bucks. Small dinner salad? Another 5 bucks. I ordered a very small cup of clam chowder that cost $4.75. It tasted like it came out of a Campbell's Soup can. We were reallly disappointed. We spent about $100 on a really disappointing meal. The license plates are cute, but not that cute.

Maybe I am more picky about seafood because I live in Florida, but for that price, I think we can be a little picky, right???

thanks for posting that review.
i really like to hear both sides of the fence.

i can eat at the one in chgo.
i was interested in trying the one at city walk but then i would have to give up my hrc or margaritaville.

shrimp are shrimp... Bubba Gump's is good, but I'd like it much better if they used larger sized shrimp. it's a fun restaurant, but the namesake are too small and invariably overcooked.

thanks for info :thumbsup2

is it a busy restaurant, so you might have to reserve a seat when you go in at the reservation bit at CityWalk?

Another Floridian here who's, ahem, a bit picky about her seafood ;)

We thought BG's was good. I've only been to a Red Lobster one time and have never returned, lol.

For the way we dine, tho, our meal was fine. We don't want a bunch of extras, especially at a place like that where the portions are huge. We prefer to drink our appetizer, and the beer prices we thought were pretty good, especially for draft Yuengling. DH & I, with tip and several large beers each, was around $60 with tip. Actually, I think we did get an actual appetizer, as my mother was with us, and she's an appetizer woman.

I do agree with Macraven in that it's hard giving up our must-do's for BG's. It's really a backup for us when O'Bryan's is closed for whatever reason.

they don't take reservations

it's amazing to hear such "bad" reviews of the food....i don't eat seafood, and nobody at our table had anything bad....my chicken was very good! (altho, i'd prefer not to have 'gravy' slobbered all over it, but it was southern fried chicken!)

We ate at the Bubba Gumps on the Santa Monica Pier in March. Couldn't have asked for a better atmosphere - fun interior, lots of windows overlooking the sun setting over the Pacific.

Food - was ok. Not gourmet, but ok. Husband and I had the bucket of trash - portion was HUGE, but it was just your standard overfried shrimp/fish/fries. Our daughter had the scampi, now that was excellent! Kid's meals were excellent with their entree, fries, applesauce and they loved the dirt cup (pudding, crushed cookie and gummy worms).

Would I go again at CityWalk? Probably not. The price was worth it for us because of the setting and the views. Not that we don't love Universal, but the pier and the ocean are what really made it for us, not the food. I have too many other favorites at CityWalk to keep me busy :teeth:

I'm a shrimp nut, and I LOVED bubba gumps, i'm making it a point to go there this vacation...its such a great atmosphere, youll get a kick out of the movie memorobilia! Our waitress was so sweet, too! She quizzed us on our Forrest gump knowledge! Taught us some things we didnt know!

Hubby and I went last year and thought that it was awesome. Its a fun and creative atmosphere and the service is superb. We both had the peel and eat shrimp baskets and beer in the souvenir cup that is refillable and thought the price for our meal was good. I would definitely try this place if you like shrimp, my hubby and I love peel and eat shrimp.:thumbsup2
