The Birth Control Pill and retaining water HELP PLEASE

A couple months ago I began having anxiety feelings so my obgyn switched my pills to one lower in estrogen. It did seem to help my anxiety feelings alot --- in fact they've gone away BUT I feel AWFUL otherwise! I am retaining water horribly [currently on low ovral - generic equivilant] and I just am generally feeling really lousy right now. HELP!

Has anyone found that a particular BC pill actually helped with the voiding of fluids rather than retaining them? My weight loss has stalled since taking these new pills.

Call your doctor. There are tons of pills out there, the next one may be perfect.

I think the newer pill, Yasmin, is supposed to have a progestin type component that has a diuretic effect.

i agree with serena -- i'd give your doctor a call. there are so many types out there that i'm sure you'll be able to find one that works great for you.

I've been on Yasmin a couple of years now. I don't know about the diuretic effects, but I haven't had any problems.

Jody - I was on Mircette a couple of years ago - low dose estrogen - and it made me retain water sooooooo bad. I called and was put on Yasmin and I love it!!!!! Not as bad PMS, not as bad mood swings, keeps me under control and on track as far as days (I'm extremely irregular and have had lots of problems and have to be on BC to help with these problems).

CALL YOUR DOC!!!!

I talked to the obgyn nurse and she said that she believes the doc will want to try 'Yasmin'! I'm waiting for a confirmation later today. I have one week left on this cycle of low dose pills and I will be so glad when this week is OVER!

I'll let you know if that confirmation goes thru --- although I cannot imagine why it wouldn't.

Any others with experience with this med --- Yasmin?

I dont know if you are set on taking the pill or are open to other methods. I Get the shot every 12 weeks AndI love I dont have to remember take a pill( i forget to take my vitamens) I have been on the shot for three years now.

I have to add my thumbs up for Yasmin. I've even managed to lose a little weight while on it. No side effects for me either!

After going 10+ years w/o being on the pill, I am now on Alesse. I was concerned over weight gain, etc. My doctor told me this ne had had good results. No water retention and I have not gained weight. But, I will keep Yasmin in the back of my mind.

I was on Yasmin and didn't gain any weight -- except a little in the chest area... However, I had a side effect... I was, er, no longer interested in my DH. Switched to OTC and got rid of that problem, gained about 5 pounds total.
Another thing to worry about -- Yasmin is LOW dosage. My doctor told me to make sure I was never late taking the pill -- even an hour.

I'm on Lo Ovral, and the generic equivalent made me CRAZY. It was like I was psychotic. I asked my doc, and she said that it can happen with the generics. She also said that everyone reacts differently, that's why there are so many choices.

Funny, when I was on prednisone recently (which can gnegate bc pills), I lost about 6 pounds, despite non-stop munchies. It was definately water that I lost....) Maybe I'll have to try Yasmin.

i'm on generic (have been for ~5 years) and i am not psychotic (i don't think, LOL)

another thing to kep in mind with the super low-dose pills -- my doctor told me they are not good for women who are overweight b/c sometimes the dosage is not enough and an accident can happen.

I'm very overweight BUT not on the pill for birth control --- just 'control' over bleeding due to a large fibroid. So, I don't think I have 'accidents' to worry about. I hope not --- as DH took care of the a long time ago!
