Day 4 - Monday Morning, July 8.
The big day is finally here. Today I wake up before the alarm clock goes off and I promptly hit the shower. You know the rest (wake the family, get breakfast, etc .). Theres no problem getting the kids up today, they are excited and ready to go (this is their first trip). Were packed and ready by 8:00 and we arrive at All Star Music by 8:30. We pull into the check-in parking lot and walk into the lobby and everyone is really taken in by the Disney Fever from here on out. There is no line for check in and our room is ready. So we unpack and make a quick change into our swimsuits and head straight to Blizzard Beach.
On a side note, My wifes brother and his family were the instigators for this trip and they had originally told us they were planning on being in the parks from July 8th 13th. But when they booked their reservation they booked the 7th the 12th. I tried to get him to change his reservations since I knew they would be getting into Orlando late after the Pepsi Cola 400 was over (night race) and his kids would be dog tired for their first days in the park. I also knew that they would probably go to the same parks we wanted to go to the day before. As it turns out, thats exactly what happened. For the entire week, we never meet up with them and we only saw them briefly at the pool at All Star Music one evening. My wifes sister later tells me that this is how my brother-in-laws wife wanted it. She really didnt have any intentions of going to the parks with us. So now I really question why my brother-in-law pushed us so hard to get everyone to go on this trip with them. Oh well, their loss as they were left out of all of the fun the rest of us had together.
We make it to Blizzard Beach around 10:15 and I do a quick search of the park looking for a picnic spot while everyone else waits at the front. I find a suitable spot with shade and trees (no picnic table). I felt lucky to find the chairs under the tree for 10 of us. We do the wave pool, the lazy river (very cool, best Ive ever seen), the family raft thing, and several of the tube slides. We were even lucky enough to find Goofy in the Wave pool and all of the kids got to have their picture taken with him (had one of those water resistant disposable cameras with me). We never make it to the big slides as the lines are over an hour long, and I dont care how thrilling the ride is, Im not waiting an hour for a 10 second ride. Even after a 45-minute downpour, the line is still over 45 minutes long. I guess we will have to try again next trip and do that first thing after the park opens. We leave the park around 6:30 and head back to ASM and get cleaned up. Today is my sister-in-laws birthday (wifes sister) and she wants to go somewhere special for dinner. So the 12 of us catch the bus to Downtown Disney (only had to wait 5 minutes). Were in Downtown Disney within 15 minutes and Sis-in-law wants to eat at the Rainforest Café. Looks like there is about an hour or more wait so she goes to put our name in and we figure we can shop while we wait. Well, as luck would have it, they had an opening for 12 people and we were immediately seated. This is a very unique place and the food was superb and the atmosphere was excellent. My wifes mother even picks up the tab for the entire party. We tried to talk her out of it, but once she sets her mind on something she wants to do, shes going to do it. So we are all very thankful. After dinner we decide to do a little shopping. Kids brought their own money and everything they want to see they want to buy. I convince them that we have a week, and to wait until weve seen more of the parks before they buy their souvenirs. We walk back to the bus stop and only have to wait 10 minutes before a bus arrives to take us back to ASM. Once back at ASM we go straight to bed, as tomorrow the Magic Kingdom awaits.
