The best/worst trip to WDW ever--New and Improved!!

Please don't stop writing, I am really enjoying your reports. I much prefer it when people are honest about stuff, not everything can be candy coated and perfect - even at Disney!

Day 3, Part 3

Ah the Adventurer’s Club. DH’s Happiest Place at the Happiest Place on Earth. MIL loved it here partly cuz it's awesome, and I think partly cuz her son told her so much about it before she got to see it herself. DH is contagious...well his enthusiasm is! Because of the wait for the bus, we missed a lot of the early shows. T and C had never been here before, but we had told them lots about it. A group had just gone into the library when we got there, so the bar area was relatively empty. Things started off slow. The colonel made fun of some regulars who will turn up a couple more times on this report. They were three guys. One had an AC polo shirt on that I later found out was from 1989. One had a pin, so I knew he had been part of a show at some point (or bought it on ebay). And the other was rather normal. These guys were AC geeks…major AC geeks. DH made me make friends. One of the guys asked the captain to do the beer song, which was cool cuz we’d never heard him do it before. DH did find a horrible recording of it on the web somewhere that he played constantly after our last trip. You know how you’ll download a recording that is really high pitched and distorted? Well that’s what I got to listen to a lot, because I listened to my DIS friends and tried the AC…thanks…love ya, mean it.

The Colonel made the guy sing it, who struggled through some of it before the colonel joined in. It was funny, you had to be there. As that is what I would keep having to type if I explained our AC trip in detail…you had to be there…I will skip the details. Hit the highlights. At our first show in the library Samantha asked DH to do the “hootchie-coochie” dance with her. He got up and shook his butt in a very dirty dancing sort of way. The crowd laughed and cheered; DH was in heaven. It was short, but it was sweet. As the night wore on I learned lots from the AC geeks. They turned out to be WDW geeks. One of them (Mark) is a writer for Mouse Planet, and one was a CM that worked on Expedition Everest. As far as the third guy goes, I guess he was no one special. Mark gave me his card and told me if I saw him again, he’d give me a Mouse Planet pin. SWEET!! I am officially a WDW nerd! Yes! We talked about EE. The CM said that the ride was a 9; the queue was a 10. So all you people waiting hours to ride it must of gotten a treat!

BTW I use “nerd” and “geek” in the nicest possible way. I am a nerd. Big time. I was a valedictorian. I love video games, dungeons and dragons, comic books, and reading. Proud to be a nerd is my motto. Not really, but it is now!

So by the time we left around 1:30am T and C decided that they too had joined the ranks of AC nerds. Kungaloosh! Oh wait! Have to tell you this story. Imagine our surprise around midnight when we are introduced to a young man celebrating his 13th birthday with his parents. He was quite obviously a regular. Through two shows in the library he had this great thing going with the cast. Especially with Fletcher or is it Otis? Shoot can’t remember. Anyway, he’s kinda the villain, mean guy of the skits. The kid had the character down pat. If he doesn’t work there 20 years from now, I’d be surprised. Well, not really, but he could! Well the actor couldn’t get enough of him, he even did his little dance. It was so fun. I’ll post the pictures later.

Next: Day 4; the fast track to Epcot

Thanks for continuing your report. You had me crying when you watched "Wishes". I hope you finish your report.

Great report.... very well written. I can't wait to hear the rest.

By the way I know exactly what you're saying about the whole anxiety thing. ::yes:: It kinda runs away with you, doesn't it? I get those moods too, almost like something takes me over and makes me do/say things beyond my control, like I'm outside myself looking in. It's difficult to cope with (although I too am learning, but still there are days.......). I call it negative adrenalin actually - you feel a rush, but it's a negative rush instead of a positive one. I've actually found that it's so similar to an adrenalin-rush (other than it being totally negative!) that doing something physical helps like a really fast walk or jumping up and down or skipping or something like that. Yes, I know, you probably don't want to get out a skipping rope in the middle of Downtown Disney. :teeth: But even a fast walk helps, I promise!!!! Oddly enough it's at times like that that trip-planning really pays off, because when I'm in a mood like that I'd be likely to just mooch around and sigh if I didn't have a plan *written down* to follow. lol!

Anyway.... great report. I hope your DH is coping ok, I know it's very difficult when you lose a parent.

Keep up the writing..... looking forward to more. :)

Just a little encouragement to let you know that people ARE reading and enjoying your trip report. So sorry for all of you about your MIL -

I'm anxiously waiting for the next installment!

I really loved the AC as well, and only went because of all the hype on these boards. I haven't laughed like I did that night in a long time :rotfl2: Please carry on with the reports, they're great,

Claire xx

Sorry that I have finished yet. This last week has been really rough. I'm finding it really hard to be funny! The last thing I want to do is write a cranky trip report.

I will get going again soon!
Thanks for the support everyone!

I just started reading this after digging through my PMs! I don't know if you remember, but we traded some about Atlanta. I was going to check in with you to see what had gone on since we talked last.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how hard it was to keep going, but comforting in so many ways. My father passed away last August, and we're taking my mom with us in April. This will be her first trip to WDW ever, at age 75! It's going to be bittersweet because it's someplace I always wanted to take my dad since he was such a "foodie." He would have loved that part of it. So, we'll just drink lots of toasts to him and know that he'll be right there with us. I normally tear up during Wishes, but I think this time it will be a little bit more.

Anyway...take care of yourself first and foremost. We'll keep waiting for "the rest of the story!"

Great report. I'm sorry for your loss and am looking forward to the rest of the report.

Just take it one day at a time. We will be here when you are ready to finish.

Great Trip Report Sarah!!!

I really hope you finish. You are a wonderful writer.

I am so sorry that your trip had a family loss.

I just noticed this report is from February.... :confused3 Was it ever finished? I was really looking forward to the pictures too... hmmmmmm

Our trip was from Jan 25-Feb.1

I'm going to start out rather unconventionally and skip ahead to the worst thing that can happen to anyone while on vacation.

Cast:
Me: Sarah (25) Disneyoholic librarian
DH: Jay (26) it's his fault b/c he pushed for WDW for our honeymoon
T: (25) Jay's best friend since HS. Is really more of a Universal guy (yuck!) ;)
C: (26) T's wife. Loves characters...really, that's why she married T and is friends with us. HA! Sorry...

Anyway, I'll set the scene. It's Thursday night at 7:30 we've spent an awesome day at MK (even though it was REALLY busy--and before you say it--no, not holiday, peak busy, but waayy worse than what I expected...damn EE)
Wait I have to go backwards, maybe it won't be so shocking then. MIL--oh, I'm just going to say it. Thursday night while we were watching Wishes at MK my MIL (51) died. Before Wishes started I told DH to call his mom who was in the hospital with what we thought was nothing serious. He wanted to wait til we got back to POP, but I made him do it then. So he called her and she said she wasn’t doing to good and that the doctors didn’t know what was going on. She told him she had to let him go and he said “okay, bye.” She passed less than an hour later.

After the fireworks we got back back to POP and T and Jay went to everything Pop to fill their mugs. he told me to call his sister, b/c he was worried. So I called, and the doctors had JUST told her and her dad that she was gone. Luckily a family friend is a nurse at the hospital and she heard the page and came running. She took the phone from SIL and clamed me down. Then I had to tell DH. Luckily C was there to help me wait for him to come back.

He took it really hard at first, but we all stayed up til 3am talking about her amazing life (over 500 people came to her memorial after we got back!) Dh decided after talking to his dad and sister that we should stay. I now most people will never understand that decision, but it turned out to be the best thing for him by far. DH thrives around people and especially children. WDW was MIL's favorite place in the world, so we did everything she loved, and did our best to have fun.

So anyone interested in the rest of the story? I promise to be upbeat! We really did have awesome moments. Lots of them..

Hi Sarah,
I just wanted to post to let you know I understand totally why you all stayed. My MIL passed away while we were on vacation in Maui. It was unexpected. DH was encouraged by his siblings to stay and try to enjoy the rest of his vacation, because there will be alot to deal with when we returned. It was the best thing. As you know the days following are always hard.
My deepest condolences to you and your DH.
:grouphug:

I do hope you continue with your TR. I'd love to hear the rest.

Sorry everyone! I've been thinking of finishing the report now that enough time has passed and I asked Cy to check it out to see if he thought it was worth finishing.

It's been tough for me to remember exactly what we did each day. i'm going to ask DH and T & C for some help, but I will finish!

There were a bunch more great moments that i never got to. So subscribe to the thread if you want to read the rest. Once I get going I should finish pretty fast.

I've got all the pictures too.

I'll get working right now!

Sarah, I'm loving your Trip Report! Sounds like you had a great time, with the exception of your MIL passing. You make me want to try Ohana! I've never been. Looking forward to hearing more, and seeing some pictures! And I'm with you about POP; I've never been but it does not look like a place I would have any interest in staying.

I've got another installment ready to go! It'll be up tomorrow and I'll try to add pics!
