Wow.

Last year, a friend of mine (who is now my boyfriend) raved to me over and over again about Boma, the African buffet at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. At first, I couldn't figure out why he was so keen on it...I mean, it was a buffet...and it was at Disney (we live 5 minutes from there). It didn't seem that special.

On one of our first dates, he surprised me by taking me there for dinner. The Lodge itself overwhelmed me...I had not been in it before, and it was absolutely beautiful. We checked in for dinner, they gave us a beeper (you *have* to call in reservations...but they still give you beepers, as you will generally have to wait 10-15 minutes after your reservation time), and we wandered the Lodge for a bit.

The food was OUTSTANDING. I can not describe it any better to you. The dishes were amazing, and the desserts were to die for...especially the banana bread pudding with vanillla icing. YYUUUMMM!! For the little ones, they have really good chicken strips and mac and cheese...something my boyfriend laughed about, because I was a little afraid to try all the different dishes first. Now I get almost everything :)

We try and make it for special occassions only...it's a little on the pricey side (about $25 a person, I think), but it's well worth it. You should check it out sometime! :hyper:

Could you tell us about some of the things they have to eat? Will my 9 and 12 year olds like it-they LOVE AYCE chinese buffets.

A quick reply to the question about kids. I have 2 kids, DD's, but are picky eaters. Boma Buffet was their favorite meal at Disney and we have been to the world 7 times. My girls are 9 and 12 and they tried all the African stuff, then the American food and tried EVERY dessert of which I think there were 10. Wow, I wish we had eatten earlier in the day! It was fabulous! They even took out a sheet of paper and went around the room writing down all of the food they liked, its African name, etc. THe servers told them to request recipes of their favorite food- it was the African steak and Choc. mousse. Yum! Enjoy.

I think this list is pretty much up to date at the moment...this was the menu from April.

Boma

Animal Kingdom Lodge
Dinner Menu

Menu Date: April 2003

Dinner Served 5 - 10 p.m.

Boma is a family restaurant serving breakfast and dinner. It will capture the essence of vibrant life in the African marketplace. This family-fun buffet restaurant provides guests the ability to savor the African experience, which has multicultural influences. The restaurant showcases an exhibit kitchen, wood-burning grill and rotisserie.

This is an all you can eat experience, but unlike traditional buffet lines, where you start at one end and work your way across...Boma offers "pods". Each pod has a selection of food and generally a chef nearby to answer questions.
