Soooo...we have a family wedding in Sacramento, CA in 2 weeks and my DH randomly asks today...how far is it from DL? I said I'm not sure (We live in WA). Turns out it is about 6 hours driving or so from where we'll be....he says maybe we should go, we have AP's and are not extending any time to our original vacation. Instead of doing San Fran for a day or 2 now we are doing DL!!!! I'm so excited!!! Our DD is on :cloud9: as well. What a great surprise to have a trip countdown of less than 3 weeks!

Sounds like a keeper to me!

Well...he did propose to me there, so I think he kind of has a soft spot for the place:lovestruc
Plus, he's a numbers kinda guy and when I ran them showing him a $40 difference between our 2 itineraries, he couldn't help but say yes!

How fun! :cloud9: I'd pick DLR over SF any day!

BTW- I love visiting Spokane. :thumbsup2 My parents are from there.

What a fun surprise! Enjoy your bonus vacation!

P.S. My husband is from Cheney - we've been to Spokane numerous times to visit the fam. Too bad we can't get them to meet at DL!!!

congrats harpetj....but just so you know.....its closer to 8 hrs than 6...I live 2 hrs north of Sac and it takes me 5 hours going 75-80+....and if your going down the 5, once you hit right past valencia you are looking at bad traffic the rest of the way...so you might want to try and go through LA before 4pm

Thanks for the info...we are actually catching a one way flight from Sacramento to DL instead of driving. We have free airline vouchers for the trip so we are flying from WA to Sacramento, then OW on Southwest to DL, then home from DL on our vouchers.

disneegrl4eva...where are you? chico? red bluff? orland? I am from Cottonwood!!

Ohh flying rocks!!! But driving isn't 8 hrs. I'm 45 minutes away from Sac and it still takes us about 6 1/2 hrs door to door, that's stopping on the way as well. The grapevine can be scary but not too bad.... :) Or maybe it's just because we drove it so many times last year and now we are numb to it....LOL

Have FUN!!!! You've definitely got a GREAT DH there!! :)

Totally agree! What a sweet dh!!

I don't mind the grapevine, but I really hate the drive so we always fly :thumbsup2 Sometimes we fly out of Chico, sometimes out of Sacramento. The downside to flying from Chico is you have to go through SF and the flights lately are not as reliable as they used to be. On the plus side, security only takes about 5 minutes, you can park a few steps from the door and parking is free :yay:

:flower3: to the other N Calis!

You are very lucky!!:cloud9: I wish my DH would have ideas like that!!:worship:

OP, very cool!!!!

Oh my head hurts at the different opinions. :)

Explain this. Left from Aptos (right before highway, not in the woods) at 7am. Got to PPH at 7pm. Stopped at Andersens, had some traffic in Santa Barbara and a little bit in LA. :confused3

Every single person told us it would be 7 hours either on 5 or the way we went. Everyone! Even my dad, who drove for Greyhound and should be considered the expert. Even once we told them that we're not CA drivers (even though I was taught there) and go the posted speed limit (towards the slow lane, of course).

Crazy.

arent you up by Fairfield??? on average it takes me 5 hours to get to DL but then I have to go 99 when you can take the 5 all the way...the problem ends up when you get to LA county and the slowdown on the 5 all the way into anaheim.....what should take 25 min. can end up taking almost an hour or more depending on the time of day you go...the way I go now avoids that traffic but I still try to go early in the am so that way it only takes about 4 1/2 hours

I'm in San Jose. It takes about 6 hrs from here, maybe a little more depending on traffic. We take 5 to 210 (San Fernando/Pasadena) then over to 605 or 57, and then catch up with 5 again. You couldn't pay me enough money to stay on I-5 through the tangle of all the freeways coming together! eek!

amen girl....I do the same thing...but I dont do the 605..I do the 57...I dont have to go on the 5 at all once I hit the 210....I just go over it:thumbsup2

I have family dotted around Redding, Anderson, and Cottonwood. :goodvibes I only live just up the road in Mount Shasta! Glad to know that our neck of the woods is not completely forgotten up here! :cool1:

Oh... and it is usually a 10 hour drive for us from home with stops... from Sac usually about 6.5 hours.

yes, FF is our sister city. We live right next to 12 so we hop on 12, get on the 5 and then drive down to LA. That's it. We drive either early in the morning or late in the evening so we miss the traffic in LA, that's really the best way to do it. We do go about 75 down 5 but down 12 we are very cautious (you know, blood alley and all that) and we go 55 tops. Takes us 6 1/2 hrs tops to go door to door, and like I said that's with 1 or 2 potty breaks.
