My family got up early (5:30 a.m.) in order to make sure to make it back to the kennel in time to pick me up later that day. The bill was under the door. They were supposed to received the $129 Special rate the first day and the $147 AAA rate the rest of the time. The bill didn't show any discount for the first day, so after packing up, they headed to the lobby. They finally got the bill straightened out and headed for the car.
The car trip home was long and tiring. There were 2 traffic jams with backups in Georgia and South Carolina. The traffic on the Sunday after Thanksgiving was awful. Because they started their trip on Tuesday, the traffic wasn't so bad, but coming home that Sunday... it's something to think about.
Was it worth going to Disney over Thanksgiving? My Mom certainly had a nice time on her birthday. She wore her birthday pin and the cast members mentioned it when they saw it by saying "Happy Birthday" when she got off of a ride, etc. The birthday pins are not the same in all the parks. The Epcot one is different from the one in Magic Kingdom. The Christmas decorations and the Candlelight Processional was awesome. So was the Spectacle of Lights in MGM. Even the Dolphin Hotel was all decked out with a huge tree in the lobby and lots of decorations. The crowds were very big in the parks, however. The weather was very comfortable with everyone wearing shorts every day. The mood of the crowd was good - and the lack of heat during the day may have had something to do with that. Also, it's darker earlier and you get to see more of the parks under the lights. Because it's so busy, the parks stayed open late at night with extended hours so that was nice too.
For the upcoming trip - they decided to use some long overdue frequent flier miles and will rent a car at the airport. Some things they missed in November that they are looking forward to on this trip are:
The new Soarin' ride! The new stunt car show! They missed Spaceship Earth in November, also Disney Stars and Motorcars Parade. They also didn't get to see Wishes because the time never worked out. They're definitely going to eat at Columbia Harbour House and are thinking about the Crystal Palace (which they've never tried). They want to try the Earl of Sandwich too.
My family got back in time on Sunday and picked me and the cats up. We were very happy to be together again!
