The Battle For My Wallet III: The Smell of Free Dining (Addendum, pg 34)

When I heard about the free dining promo, my first thoughts were of the Zzubs—would Zzub smell the pogie bait? So when I read that Zzub & family were indeed going back to the world AND were going to tell us all about it, this was my reaction...

I can hardy wait to experience "The Battle for My Wallet IV: Return of the Zzubs!"

I'm so sorry for you loss. :grouphug:

Your writing is unreal. Quit your day job! :goodvibes

Just popped by your thread to say "Hi" and that I just noticed that our trip reports are side by side up there on the Trip Reports Board. Kinda like old times. We're neighbours again.

That's all.

Don't think I came over here to thank you for putting a moped guy and a 3D guy on my thread. 'Cause THAT certainly isn't the reason.

So here:     :clown: :clown:

Deal.

Wow, what a day it's been. I started out reading your wonderful Disneyland trip report, then rode the link over to this one. After giggling through the first several days (quietly so I didn't wake my sleeping boys), I had to clap my hand over my mouth at the picture of you in a crowd of sweaty, smelly arm-rubbers. I wasn't, however, quick enough to prevent a sudden spew of saliva all over my monitor. Quelle surprise, and ewww...

And just when I think there's not much more to say, you always have a deeply emotional epilogue. The one for Disneyland was a beautiful tribute to your love for your family. So was this one, but for different reasons and so deeply sad. I wish you and your family all the best in this trying time.

Thank you for sharing your memories with us. You have a beautiful heart, razor-sharp wit and that Southern way with words. It's been a pleasure.

ZZUB thank you for allowing us to have fun and dream with your vacation. Over the past few weeks I have been reading others reports and was saving yours for this week. I have laughed and I have cried over your report. Thank you for being real. Keep the Faith.

1000thhappyhaunt your reports are next :goodvibes

Zzub,
Thanks for sharing your family's vacation with all of us!! I just stumbled upon your TR and read it all in one day!! I'm so sorry for your family's loss and I'm glad you have been able to share so much of the magic that is WDW with your daughter :wizard: . . . Hopefully, this fall will add just a little bit more magic to your life!! When we start a family I hope to be able to see WDW through a child's eyes . . . much as you so evidently do. My husband and I will be in WDW the second week of September for that free dining you so well described, and since it's his first time I'm hoping he will love it just the way we do . . . Although I have a feeling our last day may be spent at the ESPN club watching the Tide roll over Louisiana-Monroe. :cheer2: ROLL TIDE ROLL!! Wishing you and you're family all of the best, and I'll look forward to reading your trip report when we return from the world! :cool1:

Zzub

It's been a while since I came over to the WDW Trip Report forum. My next trip is to Disneyland and I've been reading your report over there over and over. Except for the food, I can't wait to see Disneyland.

I am so sorry for your family's recent loss. I am in awe of your faith and could only hope to have that type of grace under such sad circumstances.

I look forward to your upcoming trip report!

Ok, I'm only on page 4 after a recommendation to read this.... but the wishes entry literally had me in tears! What a special moment, and you described it so well for all of us. Can't wait to read more! :goodvibes

Edit: Ok, so I was compelled to stay up much later than I intended, and finish your report. I'm glad I did. Your family will be in my prayers tonight. I know I'm several months behind the times on this thread  but I know prayers for healing can never be in excess. I hope you all are finding yourselves well these days, and I thank you again for touching my heart with your report - from beginning to end! :grouphug:

Hello ZZUB.

I will admit to lurking on your thread for longer than I care to remember.

But I finally took the plunge and registered just so I could post here and tell you how much I enjoyed your writing. I'm a little hesitant to gush but I feel it is warranted. You are a very funny person. You bring so much joy to people. Just look at how many people have felt compelled to post on this thread. You have a real gift ZZUB. I really hung on every word in your trip report and feel as though I have memorized them all.

I really hope your family is doing better now. It is very clear to everyone just how much you love them. They are lucky to have you, I think. I will say another prayer for your sweet family tonight. I have no doubt that when I pray for the ZZUBs He will know exactly who I am talking about.

I agree with your view of so many things in the trip report except for maybe just one. As you can probably tell, I am a fan of Figment. And the park in which the ride resides. What exactly did you mean when you referred to the ride as "Figment of Michael Eisner's Imagination"? I didn't get that. Were you saying you didn't like it? No worries if you were. I just wasn't clear on that. And I didn't really understand your reasons for not liking Epcot. I mean, I know the trip report is over and all, but I was just really wondering if you could tell me what was so bad about it. Cause I really like it.

But no worries.

We got in line for Minnie and Friends and we were immediately assaulted by the Beast. Not the furry one who stars with Belle. No this was a beast of a different order. This was a smell so ferocious, so horrendous, it virtually defies description. The guy in front of us had a major stink on. Not just a minor, somewhat offensive odor, mind you. I’m talking the Stench of Death. His relationship with soap and water was clearly estranged. This wasn’t just the result of one day in the Florida hot either. No, he hadn’t spent any meaningful time with cleaning agents for several days, weeks even. He also appeared to have no working knowledge of the smell neutralizing properties of deodorant. Put succinctly, he smelled bad. Real bad.

This report is great. Just started reading it and just loved this part!!!!

Zzub~

It is an honor and a privilege to have gotten to know you.
Thank you for your gift of prose and for sharing that with us. :teeth:

We got in line for Living with the Land and one of the CMs hands me a little white card and asked me to give it to the CM at the front of the line. What?! Now I’m working for Disney? It’s not enough I pay through the nose to be in their parks, now when I’m there, I’m punching a clock, too? So this was the catch to the so-called Free Dinning promotion. It’s just like a time share sale spiel. I knew they’d get me eventually.

Hi - I've just started reading your report and am back on chapter 8 - I'm loving it so far... very :rotfl:

I just got to the bit about the little white card... we got handed one of those on BTMR one day... what on earth is it?? I thought maybe I'd won some sort of prize but alas I handed it to the CM at the front of the line and... nothing :sad2: Anyone know what it is? :confused3

This happened to us at least four times on our trip (also for free dining, we went in late September). As virtual Disney novices, the first time it happened I was quite excited about what it meant when they handed us what looked like castmember passcards - were we going to be special and allowed into a private, super-secret, you randomly got picked for something fabulous area? Would we get to help pilot the Jungle Cruise? Get a personal meet and greet with the big guy? No, just trying to estimate the wait time so that the big signs out front can be updated. Sigh. At least we looked trustworthy? Isn't that a little something?

Cool I learnt something today :)
That makes sense! :thumbsup2

Well I am chiming in a little late but I just sat here and read the whole report today. It was so entertaining. I am glad that you and your family had such a magical time!

I am so sorry for your loss. I have to say Disney is great place to create a little souvinear! :) Isn't that really why we take the children back for "nap" time anyway?? :cool1:

I finally finished your report and it was wonderful. As so many others have said before me "It made me laugh and it made me cry"! I am so sorry for your loss but so happy to hear that you are going back to the place of magic again! I will be following behind in Sept/Oct for my own family's trip and can't wait to read your next TR!! Take care and my prayers are with you and yours!!!

Zzub - thank you so much for sharing your trip report. I am so sorry for your loss and offer my condolences to you and your family.

I am so sorry for the loss of your baby. My sincerest condolescences to your wife. I too had trying times with my pregnancies. Twice the baby had died but I did not miscarry. Twice I had surgery. Once was my first pregnancy and the other was after my first son was born. But I went on to have a second, beautiful son. And then, 4 years later we had an unexpected pregnancy - our little bonus, I call her. So even though this is very hard now, don't lose hope. There is likely a very special little baby in your future.

I really enjoyed reading your trip report.

Great report! However, it has distracted me from job hunting. Is there some sort of support group for those who are seeking a job just to afford Disney trips?

We had not finished our week in March when we started planning our next trip in September!

I must admit, I put off reading your trip report.

I'd heard alot about it on other trip reports - I mean you have to know that you are legendary among these parts - and I don't mean the South. However, I'm the type of person that goes against the grain. Always going for the underdog, eschewing the sure-to-be-a-hit movies and instead dropping my hard earned money down on the more obscure, hardly noticed -sometimes with subtitles - movies. Therefore, I wasn't rushing to read your trip report. That's just me!

Let me tell you, I'm happy I waited.... I got to read it in it's entirety - in one day (don't tell my boss) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I enjoyed not having to wait weeks for the next installment. When I read your apologies for taking weeks to start the next chapter, I would give a wicked laugh and say "suckers" as I continued to get my read on - with no waits! I had my very on FastPass through Zzub's report

I know you have heard all of this before but you are a very gifted writer. I'm so sorry for what you and your family have gone through in the last year, but I am truly in awe of your faith in Christ. It is definitely true that you can handle anything with Christ who strengthens you and you and your family proved it.

I noticed that you will be going to Disney World at the beginning of September. I'll be there during that time too. If your trip is planned for anytime during September 6th - 10th and you see me (look at picture below) don't be afraid to say hello. I would love to see the real Zzub's and maybe take a picture or two (I promise not to put it on the DIS). Until I meet you, I'll just be running up to every family of 3 with a 4 year old and a dad who looks like a lawyer wearing a "Vote for Pedro" shirt!

ZZub,

I will also be in WDW from 8/29-9/6. We never eat half of our free food, so come on over for some! We share!   Just promise not to talk shop with my lawyer husband who also like to be called da' man
