The bald and the beautiful take on the world. Our September 2007 road trip!

September 20th/Day 9

It was another cloudy and rainy day when we woke up this morning. :umbrella: It would have been a perfect day to go to the parks but unfortunately we needed to go to the beach for DC sake.:beach: He only had 2 more full days with us and he insisted on seeing the ocean since he never had before.

We were off to a late start due to lack of planning on my part. We were out the door around 11:00am and were headed towards Clearwater Beach. I had typed in the address of Pier 60 into the GPS hoping that it would get us to where we needed to go. After an hour and a half of driving we ended up lost due to massive construction in the area. By 1:00PM I was getting irritated because I couldn't find a freakin' beach anywhere, it looked like there was a storm coming in, and had yet to eat anything for the day. Tempers where flaring at this point. :mad: :mad: We finally found somewhere to eat, unfortunately it was a McDonalds :crazy2: but hey beggars can't be choosers. We pulled into the drive thru and ordered some burgers and fries then continued on our way.

It was now 1:15pm and we were at the entrance of a place called Honeymoon Island. We paid the $5.00 to enter the park and saw a sign after entering for a ferry to another beach called Caladesi Island. We followed the signs and saw some beautiful pictures posted of the island so we decided to go ahead and go there. :banana: When we stepped up to the counter to buy the tickets for the ferry we were told that it wouldn't be leaving until 2:00 pm and that the last boat back would be leaving at 3:30pm due to a storm moving in. :eek: WHAT!! We drove all this way to be at the beach for an hour! Oh well! We paid the $9.00 a person for the ferry and waited patiently.

DAY 9 to be continued............

Sorry to hear about the bad weather! I hope you actually make it to the beach!

I hope you guys made it to the beach. What a bummer that you got lost and then only got to stay for an hour.

Day 9 continued......
It was a 10min boat ride to the island. After getting off the ferry it was another 5 minute walk to get to the beach itself. It was practically deserted, I think there was a total of 10 other people on the entire island. I LOVED IT!!:love: I was so sad about the weather and the fact that we were only going to be there for an hour.:sad1: We had decided not to go swimming because of those reasons and just dipped our feet in a little above the ankles. Why get wet when you have so little time?

IMG_3038.jpg

IMG_3035.jpg

IMG_3041.jpg

DD was terrified of putting her feet in the water so I just held her and let her watch the waves. After wading in the water for awhile DC and DH searched for some shells while I played with DD in the sand.

~~~ Really cool Whelk that DH found, stepped on while looking for shells~~
IMG_3096.jpg
Our hour went by sooo quickly and before we knew it, it was time to go. I was sad to leave but DH and I are planning on coming back when visit in Florida again. :banana:
Ironically on our way back to the boat it started to down pour on us. ((So much for staying dry)) :( The boat ride was freezing and wet so I had to wrap DD up in a towel, which she was not happy with at all. Last thing I wanted was for her to get sick.
On our way back to the hotel we hit major rush hour traffic in Tampa. After we finally passed the metro area traffic we thought it would be smooth sailing from that point on, but that was just wishful thinking because 10mins laterl we hit even worse traffic due to a semi roll over . :eek:
What a great DC you are to make sure that he got to the beach. Loving the TR....can not wait to here more.
All caught up and looking forward to reading the rest! :)
Thank you!! Glad to have you along for the ride.:woohoo:
I am a pretty great cousin, huh! ;) Especially because I paid for half his vacation and EVERYTHING!! But it was nice to have an extra hand so we could enjoy the big kid rides to! :goodvibes
Day 9 continued....
When we got back to the condo it was raining and thundering like crazy. The plan was to go to DTD to eat and shop, but were having second thoughts because of the weather. After 45 minutes the rain was starting to let up so we decided to go through with our plans. :goodvibes
When we arrived at DTD we were pleasantly surprised because it wasn't a mad house like usual. We were actually able to walk through the stores with a stroller with no problem. YIPPEE!! :cool1: And on top of the small crowds the weather felt perfect. Not to hot, not to cold!!
We made our way to the Rainforest Cafe' for dinner. There was a 45 minute wait so we put our names on the list and went shopping.
I of course needed to stop at DISNEY DAYS OF CHRISTMAS to pick up a few Christmas ornaments for the tree this year. Our entire Christmas tree consists of disney characters, ((Tinker bell always adorns the top.)) We try to purchase 3 new ornaments every year to add to the collection. This year we bought Dumbo, Tinkerbell, and Ariel. ((I'll try to post pictures of them later))
disneys_days_of_christmas21.jpg
When leaving DISNEY DAYS OF CHRISTMAS it started to rain and lightning again so we headed over to POOH CORNER to do some shopping. Reya had a hay day in there and wanted everything she could get her little paws on.
IMG_3082.jpg
IMG_3085.jpg
In the end we ended up buying her a cute little purse to hold her little Kitty Kat in and a book called "THE STORY OF DISNEY BEAR-A DAY AT THE MAGIC KINGDOM" It is so cute and I can't wait until I can read it to her and reminisce about her first DW adventure. I also bought MY first souvenir of the trip a cute Winnie the Pooh coffee mug.
After the rain let up a little and Reya was finished flirting with a little boy she ran into we headed back over to the Rainforest Cafe' for dinner.
IMG_3073.jpg
We were seated right next to one of the big fish tanks, it was so neat to watch all the ""feeesshh""" (as reya calls them) swimming around as we ate our yummy dinner.
IMG_3094.jpg
IMG_3090.jpg
IMG_3093.jpg
Unfortunately after the first simulated rainstorm Reya freaked out :scared1: and screamed and cried to be picked up. For the rest of dinner I would have to hold her on my lap and deal with her clawing me every time it thundered or when the Gorillas would pound on their chests. :headache:
After our yummy dinner ((I always order the chicken fried chicken )) We went to goofys candy co. to get some chocolate and hot cocoa to warm up a bit.
IMG_3080.jpg
Our last stop for the night was The World of Disney Store, where we bought some souvenirs for friends and family back home. I could spend hours here and hundreds and hundreds of dollars if I could.
After our shopping we headed back to the hotel to settle in for the night! Another wonderful day was had in Orlando.
END OF DAY 9.......
UP NEXT MGM
September 21st/Day 10
:sunny:I woke up to a warm sunny morning. :coffee: Had my cup of coffee and sat on the balcony with Reya enjoying the view before getting ourselves ready for MGM.
IMG_3009.jpg
Arrived at MGM around 10:00 am.
Picture1892-1.jpg
Upon our arrival we headed straight for ToT, and were pleased to see that there was only a 10 minute wait. DC and I decided to ride first while DH stayed behind with DD. It was a thrilling ride as usual, it never disappoints me. When we exited the ride and found DH he told us that the nice cast member at the entrance of ToT gave him a fast pass for the Little Mermaid show because she thought Reya was the cutest thing she had ever seen. :cutie: I guess DD was flirting and blowing kisses to her the entire time we were gone. ((Told ya she's friendly, a little too friendly sometimes)) Any who ~~ DH and I rode ToT next while DC stayed behind with DD this time. We used the child swap pass but it wasn't necessary, we walked right into the pre-show room with NO wait. After the doors opened we were the first ones out the door and first ones on the elevator. No matter how many times I ride this ride I always get butterflies in my stomach. After the ride was over, I noticed DH with a pair of sunglasses in his hand and he was asking everyone around us if they belonged to anybody. Apparently during one of the drops his was pinged in the head with them. :headache: The gentleman behind us said they were his and that he was "sorry"!
Picture1893-1.jpg
For the entire month of september the Rockin Roller coaster was closed for refurbishment so we were highly disppointed to miss it, it's one of my favorite rides and I was looking forward to it for months. OH WELL!! :sad:
After ToT we were starving so we searched for something to eat. DC was complaining that he was low on funds and didn't want to eat anywhere expensive so we just ate at a CS restaurant. I don't remember the name of the joint just remember that it was near star tours.
After eating our burgers and fries, DC and DH went onto Star Tours while I stayed behind with my little sleeping beauty. I bought myself a Mickey Bar, :mickeybar found a nice shaded bench, and people watched. It was one of my favorite parts of the day, just relaxing with some ice cream having a moment all by myself.
Picture1899.jpg
Once DC and DH were done with Star Tours we headed towards Muppet Vision 3-D. :3dglasses DC declined to see the show and stayed behind with my DD because she was still napping. It was a good thing because she doesn't seem to handle the 3-D shows very well. The show was okay, I don't think the 3-d special effects are all that great , and I definitely prefer It's Tough to be a bug at AK and Shrek 4-D at universal.
Picture1901.jpg
Next we went over to the back lot tour. About 10 minutes before we boarded the tram, DD decided to take the biggest dump ever ((For those of you who wanted to know)) :rolleyes1 I was so embarrassed because she was so stinky and I knew that everyone around us could smell it, :crazy2: but there was no way to change her diaper until we were done with the tour. Luckily it didn't seem to bother DD that she was so squishy. As far as the tour went I remember it being much better in the past and was a little disappointed. Gotta say it was a little boring actually and not worth having to smell miss smelly diaper.
Day 10 continued......
After riding the Back Lot tour DH, DD, and I headed over to the Great Movie Ride. Once again DC declined. The wait time was supposed to be 10 minutes but I think we waited closer to 20 or so. Unfortunately I have to say once again I was disappointed. The ride wasn't horrible, and it was a nice way to get out of the heat but it just wasn't great. DD did well most of the ride except during the "hold up scene". I also have to mention that luckily no matter how scared my DD was on any ride during this trip she never screamed or cried. She mostly would hide her face in my chest or claw herself up my body like a crazy monkey. I was actually happy about this because she didn't ruin anyone else's experience with a bunch of crying but bad and painful for me most times. :scared: Ahhhhhh well.
HPIM0155.jpg
When we were finished with THE GREAT MOVIE RIDE we met up with DC and went to see the Voyage of the little mermaid. All the times that we have been to MGM, DH and I have never seen any of the shows, and we have yet to see Fantasmic. ?!?!? ONE DAY we will. As far as the show goes it was cute and Reya enjoyed most of it, I'm glad we went.
Voyage20of20the20little20mermaid1.jpg
Once the show let out we headed towards the 4:00pm showing of LIGHTS, MOTORS, ACTION. We showed up about an hour early so we could get great seats, which we did of course. The show was great, and Reya really enjoyed it after she got used to the loud sounds. She clapped and smiled the whole time.
After the show was over we waited for most of the stadium to empty and decided to head back to the Condo because it was just way too hot and miserable.
For the rest of the night we just relaxed at the condo. I watched a little tv and like every night I watched the MK fireworks from the balcony and took my nightly jacuzzi bath. Mmmmmmmm I love vacation. :cloud9:
You guys found some cool shells!
The picture of Reya with the Winnie the Pooh and the little purse is adorable! Sorry to hear she hated the rainstorms, although I will admit the gorilla thing freaks me out a little too!
That's so awesome that you could see the fireworks from your balcony!
Sorry Ive been gone so long lol. I was on vacation in NYC.
Reya looks like a doll in jeans, what a cutie.
LIGHTHOUSE KEY RESORT! WOW I am planning to stay there, its beautiful...cant wait for more.
I've never seen a better place for beachcoming. They had shells all over the place. And most of them were all intact, usally when you go to a beach most of the shells are all broken. :( Plus they had all these wonderful welks to look at. I can't wait to go back!
Hope you had fun in NYC!! I can't wait to go someday!
September 22nd/Day 11
Unfortunately Mike left us this day. I was really sad to see him go and I know he was really sad too. :( But on the plus side my dad was flying in from California, and I was super excited to see him:banana:
DH took DC down the street to another hotel to be picked up by Mears at 3:45am. I guess Mears Transportation wouldn't pick up or drop off at Lighthouse Key because it's a timeshare?!?!? :confused3
It was a lazy, unproductive, relaxing day for the most part. I got to sleep in till 10:00am which was a complete luxury, I don't even get to do that at home.:cloud9:
After taking a shower and drinking my morning coffee on the balcony I saw what I thought was a duck slowly swimming across the lake, the closer it got I realized it wasn't a duck so I grabbed my binoculars and spotted my very first alligator. To some this probably isn't a big deal but to me it was. Everyday I would go to the balcony and search for him, I'm not sure if it was the same alligator but a saw him at least 5 other times while staying at the condo. :cool1: SOOOOO COOL!!!
Around noon we decided to head down to DTD for some shopping and Lunch.
3_20downtown20disney20marketplace20.jpg
We ended up at Planet Hollywood again because nothing else looked that appetizing to me and Planet Hollywood has great Philly Cheese Steaks, which was something I had been craving for days.
After dinner we walked around DTD for awhile, did some shopping, and snacked on some chocolate from The Candy Cauldron. Mmmmmmm!
wdw-candycauldron1.jpg
It was around 3:00pm when we decided to head back to the hotel and wait for my Dad to arrive.
On our drive back to the hotel, my Dad called to tell us he had arrived and was on his way to find the shuttle. I told him not to bother and that I would pick him up since we were out and about anyway. Kinda regret it because it cost us a small fortune in toll money. OH WELL.:confused3
After a happy reunion with lots of hugs we headed back to the Condo with a stop at Houlihans for dinner. :grouphug:
Rest of the night we just relaxed at the Condo and caught up.
discfromdad167.jpg
Like I said a pretty uneventful day but it was nice. That's one great thing about taking a long vacation, you don't feel guilty about taking a day off once in a while.:upsidedow
Be back later with a report on our day at Animal Kingdom.
How great that you got to see your cousin and your dad! It sure does make the trip extra special! :)
September 23rd/Day 12
Today we headed to Animal Kingdom. Sorry, I don't remember morning details, just that we were out the door around 9:30am, and had to take a detour due to a bike race that was going on in the area, which wasn't that big of a deal.
Upon entering the parking lot of AK I was sensing some disappointment in my Dads voice. I guess he was under the impression that AK was just a glorified zoo and wasn't looking forward to it because he's seen his share of zoos and could care less if he saw another one. :eek: I tried explaining to him that it was soooo much more and that he just had to experience it to understand. From that point on I was excited to see how he would react to all the AK had to offer.;)
When we were directed to park I was thrilled because we got ROCK STAR parking right in front of where the tram picks you up. Unfortunately we waited about 10 minutes for the tram to show up, which at the time seemed like an eternity. I was getting a little hot headed because I figured we could have been through the gates already if we were just able to walk. :sad2:
IMG_3344.jpg
IMG_3335.jpg
Once we arrived and were through the gates we headed straight for It's tough to be a bug since it was only a 10 minute wait. While waiting for the theatre doors to open I was super excited for my Dad to see the show but at the same time I was also dreading how Reya was going to react to it all.
Its20Tough20To20Be20a20Bug20Entranc.jpg
We got really great seats right in the middle of the theatre. Reya handled it pretty well, right up until the Hopper scene of course. She just threw her arms around DH and buried her cute little head under his. Poor thing.
It was a wonderful show as usual, so much better then Muppet Vision :3dglasses I think. My Dad was very impressed and wanted to go back to see it later if time would allow. Already I could see his whole attitude change about AK, he was full of smiles and ready for whatever was next to come.
Next was Dinosaur! When we arrived the wait time was listed at 10 minutes so I figured we probably wouldn't need a child swap pass but got one just in case. My Dad and I got in line first while DH waited behind with DD. It was a pretty awesome ride but I think I prefer the Indian Jones Ride at DL. After DG and I finished riding, DH and I headed back. I'm really glad that I picked up that child swap pass because it went from a 10 minute wait to a 30 minute wait. YAY ME!! DH and I walked past a huge line of people and entered into the pre show room right away.
Dinosaur20Entrance1.jpg
Once we were finished riding Dinosaur and a quick trip to the ladies room. ((FYI- Dinosaur is not the ride to ride on a full bladder)) we headed to Everest.
Picture1860-1.jpg
When we reached Everest it was listed as a 45 minute wait so we went ahead and picked up some FP's. To kill time until then we decided to walk through Maharajah Jungle Trek. I hate to admit it, but it was painfully boring because all of the animals were hiding in shade due to the miserable heat. The only thing I really enjoyed was looking at was the bats!
DAY 11 to be continued..........
A Bugs Life scared me, I'm surprised only the part part scared Reya!
We didn't do the Maharaja Jungle Trek. It was hot by the time we would have done it, so it sounds like we didn't miss much.
I can't even remember where I got the link to your TR, but I started reading and couldn't stop :goodvibes Your DD is so adorable :cutie: and I love that you've taken her on so many road trips. Me and my bf love doing them over here and will be going on our first US road trip (west coast) in just under 2 weeks :yay: We plan to take our future children on similar trips, even though people say to me that i'll change my mind because it'll be too stressful etc etc :rolleyes: :sad2: I think travelling is a great experience for kids and it looks like Reya really enjoyed your/her trip :) :cloud9: I'm off to read your other pre-trip report now :thumbsup2
