September 20th/Day 9
It was another cloudy and rainy day when we woke up this morning.
It would have been a perfect day to go to the parks but unfortunately we needed to go to the beach for DC sake.
He only had 2 more full days with us and he insisted on seeing the ocean since he never had before.
We were off to a late start due to lack of planning on my part. We were out the door around 11:00am and were headed towards Clearwater Beach. I had typed in the address of Pier 60 into the GPS hoping that it would get us to where we needed to go. After an hour and a half of driving we ended up lost due to massive construction in the area. By 1:00PM I was getting irritated because I couldn't find a freakin' beach anywhere, it looked like there was a storm coming in, and had yet to eat anything for the day. Tempers where flaring at this point.
We finally found somewhere to eat, unfortunately it was a McDonalds
but hey beggars can't be choosers. We pulled into the drive thru and ordered some burgers and fries then continued on our way.
It was now 1:15pm and we were at the entrance of a place called Honeymoon Island. We paid the $5.00 to enter the park and saw a sign after entering for a ferry to another beach called Caladesi Island. We followed the signs and saw some beautiful pictures posted of the island so we decided to go ahead and go there.
When we stepped up to the counter to buy the tickets for the ferry we were told that it wouldn't be leaving until 2:00 pm and that the last boat back would be leaving at 3:30pm due to a storm moving in.
WHAT!! We drove all this way to be at the beach for an hour! Oh well! We paid the $9.00 a person for the ferry and waited patiently.
