The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Good morning everyone! Well it is raining and thundering. I am not sure if the zoo is a go or not. My friends daughter will be very disappointed if we don't go, its beanie baby day ;)

Wendie I have days like that sometimes. Alex would have gone down another aisle and laughed is fool head off. Maybe a good old fashioned shoe repair shop can save your sandals. How is your dad doing?

Aimee Carbs sound good to me.

Kathy It may be a good thing Sammie can't tell you what went on.

Laura I love when our kids let us know what thoughts go on in their heads. Alex is currently on a save the planet kick. He is pressuring me to go green. Little does he realize that also means more walking and less driving :rotfl:

Tonight we are having pork chops and snap peas.

** Here is a story of my day.....walking down the aisle in the grocery store the strap on my favorite sandal snapped making it impossible to wear.....I was running 2 hrs behind schedule(that is a whole other story..ugh), had 1/4 of the store done and didn't want to have to leave to go home ( 15 min away) to change shoes. I tried to shuffle along, but that was NOT going to work, so I took off my shoes, walked to the aisle with the notebooks etc, grabbed some super glue and glued the strap back on....but not before gluing my hand to the shoe, my fingers together, then to the super glue itself, finally finishing it off with putting my foot in the shoe before the glue was dry and yep, gluing my foot into my shoe....it was almost an hour later before my foot came unglued! Poor Ross didn't know whether to laugh or go sit in the car and wait!
This was the part of my day that went well too......Hope everyone has/had a nice day.

....:lmao: that is ONE FUNNY STORY! :rotfl2: [...at least ya didn't have to shuffle along any more...;) ]

Good Morning!

I woke up this morning with a sinus headache so on top of being tired, I now have this head thing...Oh well, life goes on.

Nancy, Continued prayers for everyone.

Maria, How is your Mom doing?

Kat, That pet sitter...OMG! :sad2: Good luck to Kyle. Kepp us posted on the games. Good job on the gym! :thumbsup2

Laura, I love the story you shared about Liam...too funny! Kids have no concept. Andrew has been bugging me for a toy (one that will wind up at the bottom of his closet) and he keeps saying he will use his own $ to buy it...I jsut don't want him wasting $$$ for it and he keeps asking...:rolleyes1

Sheryl, Oh my, I guess DB is gonna be a little mad but maybe you will get out of pet sitting...

Janice, Have fun today!

Stephanie, Your restaurant choices look good to me!

Wendie, What a story! That would be something that would happen to me...:lmao:

***************
Tom went out with a couple of friends so hopefully I can relax for a while. We are probably going to have leftover Chinese for dinner. I could not decide what I wanted so I ordered it all!

Have a great day all!

This is hysterical!!!!:rotfl2:

Well Buddy is eating his tuna and I have Chinese leftovers. His Aunt is very sick. She is on the ventilator and the girls really do not know how she will be but they are just taking it day to day. I am appalled by the level of care that she has received from her Dr, until her DD lit a fire under him he was just plodding along. She is Stage 4 but with this kind of cancer there is a chance that even a few weeks would have made big difference. Thank you all for keeping her in your prayers. :grouphug:

Keeping y'all in my prayers:hug:

WFD - Going out for dinner!

...WFD - stuffed peppers (stuffed with ground beef, rice, and mozzarella cheese..)....

Sounds great, do you have a recipe to share?:goodvibes

....I'm running out now to buy a birthday gift for my twin niece and nephew for the party today, but I promise to post it later, when I get back.....:thumbsup2

Lauren--how are you feeling? Any better?

BWA-HA-HA!!! :rotfl:
I hope you are unstuck by now!!

Appox 4000 calories in one sitting but I didn't get breakfast or lunch so it's okay, right?

Yup, it is. ;)

Here are some pictures from last night. The lamb chops and sausages:

the grilled veggies:

and the carb--this recipe was in this month's Bon Apetit--it is an orzo and creamed corn dish. The first local corn was out at the farmers market yesterday and I had to buy some:

Have not figured out dinner yet--probably some kind of fish.

Afternoon all---I am actually posting when it is still light out for a change, :)

Lauren--I have to admit when the whole shoe fiasco was happening I did think of you girlfriend, ;)
I hope you feel better soon.

Nancy--Prayers continue for all of you. I am so very sorry that you are all dealing with such sadness.

Becky--I didn't get a chance to get to our farmers market this week, and I heard we had fresh corn out as well....I will NOT miss it next week! Care to share the orzo/corn recipe?

Janice--Thanks for asking, my dad is doing ok, he is very lonely in Florida, and calls me multiple times a day. He is anxious to get back.
Kids and their current soapboxes, lol. Ross is on a money making kick, and is making bracelets to sell at a friends shop and to sell at math camp next year. I just go along with it as it won't last very long, something else will catch his interest.......

Laura--Love the Liam story...."out of the mouth of babes"

Neverenough--Thank you for sharing that picture.

Ross wants red meat tonight, I have chickened him out I guess, so I took out some stew beef and will cook it on the stove top with tom. sauce peas, and rice. etc.

I hope everyone is having a perfect day!

Maria, Thank you for sharing such a touching photo.

Becky, Can you please share the orzo recipe? I think that is one my guys will like. :)

Lauren--I have to admit when the whole shoe fiasco was happening I did think of you girlfriend, ;)
I hope you feel better soon.

See? You guys know that stupid things always happen to me! I guess it makes life interesting. ;)

I am feeling OK. I still have this nasty headache though.

I'm making creamy ranch chicken - who's recipe is that? It's SO tasty and easy.

I may have caught up on my sleep. 17 hours since I got home yesterday afternoon. DH wants to show me some lighting her found at Home Depot today but that's our only plans =)

Afternoon all. I think tonight is a grill night--if DH will get the propane take changed out! Gonna do bbq chicken, a grilled corn relish, some sort of starchy potato thing, and then not sure for dessert. Picked up some great local peaches and blueberries at the farmers market today--so probably something with them.

 Sorry to laugh at your expense, but I can visualize the whole scene and it is very funny!

Alex is currently on a save the planet kick. He is pressuring me to go green. Little does he realize that also means more walking and less driving :rotfl:

Liam is like that too. Caili really likes stuffed animals, so the last time she picked one out, Liam saw a stuffed snail, and he wanted it. He begged and said he would buy it with his own money. This would also be something that would be played with once (probably to torture Caili's animals) and then discarded. I said no.

Ross is on a money making kick, and is making bracelets to sell at a friends shop and to sell at math camp next year. I just go along with it as it won't last very long, something else will catch his interest.......

That is very enterprising of him.

We had pancakes and bacon for dinner tonight, with strawberries and blueberries on the side. We went out for ice cream earlier this afternoon, and then I took the kids to the playground. All of this was unannounced, so Liam said, "Thank you, Mom, for the most surprising day ever!" Back to the dungeons tomorrow, I guess.

I wanted to post this picture from our trip a few weeks ago I thought it was so sweet to see.

My niece goes to an acupunturist (sp) and she says that the results are really good. She is was going for a treatment and had a terrible headache, she never gets them. The Dr placed a needle somewhere adn Poof! the headache was gone. I hope that your poor mother has teh same results.

Thank you for posting that picture. Was that from the Flag Retreat?

Here are some pictures from last night.

Your meals always look so good, but I have to tell you that even after a good dinner I really want a bite of that pasta and corn. It looks delicious!

I am feeling OK. I still have this nasty headache though.

I like your son! Between the two of your children you must be so proud!

Dinner was so good tonight. Yesterday was Marisa's birthday so we had her birthday dinner tonight. The poor thing was grill master though becasue she is better at it than anyone! We had grilled chicken for her and Erica, and grilled salmon for the rest of us. She really did a good job, it was cooked just right, which is a good thing because good seafood has gotten expensive. We also baked potatoes, sauted summer squashes from our garden with garlic and onions and steamed asparagus. For dessert I ordered cakes from Vitalicious.com. They were wicked expensive but worth it. She loves birthday cake but I know she would not have wanted one that would tempt her. This was pretty dense and chocolaty, kind of like a Vitamuffin top, and yet only 1 point for a little serving. We had the two point splurge :thumbsup2

I saw my Aunt today and she was doing okay. She is aging and this last ailment left her a little frail and somewhat more confused than she has been but all in all she is much better. I have not heard anything about Buddy's Aunt today. I assume that means that she is the same. I did not want to call because the girls were going to try to take a day off and have their two Aunts sit with her for the day. They are beyond exhausted.

I feel like I am forgetting something and most likely am. Well have a good evening All!

Belated Happy Bday to Marisa!!!!!!:bday:

I went to that Vitalicious website and you're right the prices are a bit high :scared:. I have lots of time before I think about rewarding myself with dessert. The lbs. aren't coming off quite as fast as I'd like but I have lost two inches in the tummy area in the last 10 days. It's almost like I've become obsessed with working out, I feel so bad when I take a day off.:guilty:

Happy to hear that your Aunt is doing better, I know that helps you deal with Buddy's Aunt. Remember I am here my friend.

Kat- I am so impressed with your willpower. I am almost embarrassed to admit that I have only been to the gym one time since my pledge to work out.:guilty:

The cakes were ridiculously expensive. I choked when I saw the S&H added into the bottom line price but I really wanted to have something for her. They were not even 6 inches across and about 2 inches high. I don't have the willpower that she and Erica have but their clothing is showing their efforts so I try not to sabotage them.

I have tried to figure out how to lower the price of our groceries, everything has gotten outrageous, but I cannot seem to leave out the groceries that are healthy or that are a treat instead of junk. I keep some Vitatops in the freezer for that chocolate fix and I buy GNU bars for Buddy so he will stay out of the donut shops. I also keep a fruit salad on hand most of the time and always have a fruit bowl on the table. Thank goodness the farmers markets are starting to open up and my garden is actually producing :thumbsup2 Buddy says the entire thing is a conspiracy to see how high people will go before they screech and I am beginning to believe him. Oh my word, now that scares me :scared1:

Tonight I am making homemade pizza.

ETA: I finally made up my mind about my "Italian Rice Pot" thingy-do-hickey I'm going to try.

We recently got a Seasons Harvest Market in my town. It's pretty much a Fresh Market (we have one of thoseion Chattanooga, 20-30 minutes away). Anyway, I have been going there to buy meat and produce. Their prices are AWESOME and the quality is outstanding.

So I got a pound of chicken fingers and a pound of Italian sausage (the sausage is in long links). Oh, a side note: I got the Italian sausage for abour $4.50 a pound. I was shocked I got sooooooo much sausage for that much!!

Anyway, what I'm going to do is saute up some garlic, onion, and some chopped portobello caps, season them with salt and pepper and Italian seasoning, and add the rest of the rice and liquids in the original recipe.

While that does it's thing, I'm going to either roast or simply brown the sausages, then chunk them up and add them to the pot. At the last minute I will add the chicken and let it cook.

Sound good? I will post a formal recipe if it turns out good :)

ETA one more time: how would it be if I used orzo instead of rice? Hmmmm..........

Good Morning! Quick check in...we are leaving soon for breakfast and then we are going to Monmouth Park Racetrack (horses) for a fundraiser for a camp for children and adults with disabilities that our friend is involved in. It should be a fun day...they are also celebrating St Patrick's Day in July so I'll see if I can find some of my clover earrings, hats, etc. :thumbsup2

Have a great day!

PS: I am feeling a bit better today. :)
