The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Lindsay, I think that recipe would work with chicken breasts. Just don't cook them for as long.

Tonight I am going to grill if the weather holds. I am making lamb chops for John, and then assorted veggies--peppers, onions, portobellos, eggplant, etc. I am making either mashed potatoes or pureed cannelini beans to go with everything.

Kathy, congratulations on the exercising! I really need to get back on my treadmill.

With Kyle not home, you'll probably have leftovers for the whole weekend!!!

We have asked them to join us in WDW more than once, why a trip now (after never going on any) and to Branson in July???? Family who can ever figure them out!

Max is a mixed breed. Probably about 30 lbs, hair sort of like an irish setter. Thanks for the tip, I really hope he doesn't get depressed & he can handle being around Alexis come Monday. He's a really good, well behaved & trained dog, but he is 13. And he has never been boarded or stayed anywhere without them. (hurricane evacuations is the only time he hasn't been in his house) I'm not really thrilled to have him here either, Bob & I really have never gotten over losing Smokey. But it was either my Mom keeping him & she has a horrible 6 month old lab who would probably hurt Max. Or boarding him at the vets. And my brother was really getting stressed about it.

Actually Kyle will be gone 10 days, he comes home Sunday night and boards a bus Monday morning for Cincinnati.:sad1:

I can so relate with your brother on stressing over the boarding. I don't think I shared last weekends pet-sitter fiasco with y'all. I found a sitter on a very reputable website, good references, she works in a vet clinic.... I called several times last weekend to check on Sammie and everything seemed fine. When we got home Sunday she had left a note that she would love to care for Sammie anytime we needed. We found out later why.....we had a bottle of vodka in the freezer, well it was almost empty and my refrigerator/freezer was jammed up against the wall with no room for the coils in the back, everything in my freezer was defrosting. The frig/freezer is fine but she obviously had a bit too much vodka and fell against the frig.:rolleyes1 So we're in the market for another sitter.:sad2:

To all: I was thinking of doing breasts instead of thighs, and maybe some chunked up Italian sausage and doing an Italian one. Do I just use some Italian seasoning? What do you all suggest?

Have you tried looking at www.unclebens.com? They have rice recipes there. You might find something to guide you.

I wondered about the Sundae rule too. Seems to me getting beaned by the ball should have an ice cream in the plan :thumbsup2

I am sure Liam would be excited to learn that all of you think he deserves a sundae. He doesn't know it yet, but I am planning to take him out for ice cream after his game tomorrow. Shh! ;)

I'm glad to hear your aunt is doing better and that Debbie had a great trip.

Some dining reviews of our trip in June.

Stephanie, thanks for the reviews! I am really surprised you had poor service at California Grill. We have always had terrific servers there. I can't help you in your choices...of those you listed, I have only eaten at Chefs de France for lunch. We are trying Bluezoo in October.

Kyle left this morning for a tournament in Shreveport and he then next week he goes to Cincinnati.......:sad1:

Is the Cincinnati trip a baseball tournament as well? That seems like it would be a LONG bus ride.

I'm going to have a guest this weekend. My brother's dog!

You are a nice sister to be watching your brother's dog for that long. Those chicken wraps were great for last-minute, off the cuff! :thumbsup2

In less than a week I'm at my goal of 60 minutes of cardio at the gym along with 45 minutes of weights/toning!!:cool1:

Congratulations! :cool1:

We're having grilled chicken wings and sausage (Liam claims to not like chicken anymore, unless it is chicken nuggets), salad and bread.

I forgot to tell y'all, We did decide to fly to WDW for our October trip. We caugt some good SW airfare prices. And we get a bonus too, airfare was way cheaper the day before we planned to leave. So we added a one night at ASM! For SisIL, (for the 3 of them) it actually came out about $15 cheaper to stay at ASM for one night, compared to flying out the next day.

Awesome!

:scared1: I would be so upset!

Your Kyle is one busy young man lately! He has got to be having a wonderful summer and by the looks of it he is going to have an amazing college experience.

WFD ~ Salmon! With all the chat about salmon I just have to make it tonight!
Not sure how I'm going to make it yet. Also asparagus with lemon. For DH I'll add red bliss potatoes with olive oil & fresh herbs.......I have so much basil & rosemary growing it seems I've been adding it to everything.

Thanks for all the advice on ADRs. Thinking I'm gonna do, Spoodles, Bistro de Paris (our anniversary meal), and BlueZoo (Kathy, I remember your glowing review and then some friends of mine went in June and he couldn't stop talking about it) I'm gonna try to eat at Fresh again, and maybe squeeze in some Beaches and Cream!

Kathy--that's terrible about the dog sitter. Some people!

Still not sure about dinner. Must get on that!

I'm so glad you chose BZ, I hope y'all love it as much as we did.:thumbsup2

I do have an update on my Mom.....she has 5 bulging discs and major nerve involvement. Not good news at all. Yesterday makes it 2 weeks she has been home and besides her having major cabin fever we haven't been told about what to do next. I guess we are in a holding pattern at this point.
I hate to see her in so much pain and feeling "useless", she is very independent and this has not only made her body uncomfortable but her overall state of well being is concerning me.

Poor mom.

I would love to be a regular poster on this thread but I just can't seem to find the time. I do enjoy reading the interactions that you have with one another. Another reason I don't post very often is I dont always feel my dinners are post worthy. Now that summer is here and some of the activities have slowed down we are making a concentrated effort to cut way back on fast food for dinner. Anyway, last night I made a new recipe called Shoyu Chicken. It was so easy and so yummy. The kids loved it As for tonight that has yet to be determined.

Welcome! Pop in whenever you can and don't worry about post worthy. Have you seen some of the stuff I cook?

Oh I did have that Grand Marnier slushie it was good but not $8.00 good. At Yak and Yeti I had some blue drink that would have been great with some rum but it was too hot for alcohol :rolleyes1

I've never had the GM Slushie because of the price tag. Sounds delicious but I just can't justify it. :confused3

Well this is right up my alley. I made one that was similar but had some maple in it. My DH was horrified that I made his chicken taste like pancakes :rotfl2: so this one may terrify him less.

This has me giggling. :lmao:

Okay, ladies need some Disney Dining advice.

I'm late on this, but I think your plan for Bistro over Chefs is the right call. I really love Chefs but it's FAR from romantic on a busy evening. The tables are thisclose to each other; I could have reached over and sipped out of the drink at the table next to me during our dinner there. We hardly talked to each other at all because the table next to us was so fascinating to listen to

I love Citricos but have heard great things about Blue Zoo. We've never dined there because they don't have a CM discount :rotfl:

:scared1: Hope you sent her a bill for the vodka!

I got in at 1pm, so tired and sore that I didn't even stop to get a bite to eat. Just showered and slept on the couch a few hours. DH gets off in about 15 minutes, his new work is a 45 minute drive home and he's going to pick up Chili's. Originally we were going out for sushi with friends but they couldn't find a sitter and bailed. I'm sorta thankful it didn't work out as I really am exhausted and my throat is bothering me... it'll be nice to lay in my PJs and be alone with DH and the dogs.

I know I want chips and queso but am not sure what entree I want yet...

I can't believe she drank YOUR vodka!!!! That would tick me off! ;) Glad Sammie survived the drunken sitter!

That's WFD here tonight too!

I might not be watching the dog after all. 1st my SIL let their son buy a new car yesterday. Guess who's 19 yo doesn't want to go on the family vacation now. So I'm waiting to hear from them, just glad I'm not in their house where DB comes home.

I hope y'all enjoy the Bistro as much as we did!

Aimee, Glad you're back home getting some rest!

Kathy That would have mad me mad:eek: I'm glad Sammie survived.

Aimee Relaxing in your PJ's sound right up my alley. :thumbsup2

It was too hot to cook so we just had sandwiches with some fruit.

Tomorrow we are supposed to go to the zoo with some friends in the morning. Hopefully it is not too hot or humid.

Nancy I'm glad to hear Buddy's Aunt is doing better.

Yep, baseball "World Series", I think it's about a 13 hour ride.

I was talking about this with Liam, and he a. couldn't believe they weren't taking a plane (Mom, a plane would be MUCH faster!) and b. was shocked to learn that most baseball clubs (below Major League) take buses to their games. I'm not sure that he has a future in finance.

That is just unbelievable about the dogsitter. I'm glad Sammie is okay, but I would be really mad about her helping herself to your vodka.

Aimee -- Get some rest and enjoy your Chili's.

Hmm...that doesn't seem like the best timing. It could make the next week and a half easier for you though.

Tomorrow we are supposed to go to the zoo with some friends in the morning. Hopefully it is not too hot or humid.

The zoo is not a good place to be when it is hot and humid. Have fun, and I hope the weather cooperates!

Wendie -- I meant to say earlier that I can relate to the over-scheduling. I feel like most of my summer has been spent in the car or sitting and watching some activity. The kids seem to be enjoying themselves though.

That's priceless....:rotfl2: Ahhh to be young and innocent again.;)

Good evening all,

WFD- Ate dinner with my parents while DH worked. Linguine with white clam sauce and some great crusty bread. I loaded up on carbs!

Off to bed...hope to catch up in the am. Hope everyone and your families are well.

Ann

Evening all---I really need a few more hours added to my days....and I started the day at 6:30am....(not by choice..my gram called to ask if she had added chips to her list...I buy them for her every month no matter what, so not sure why she called me?!!?)

Lauren--how are you feeling? Any better?

Aimee--glad you have an evening to relax, after your week you need it.

Nancy--I am glad to hear that your Aunt is doing better, please let us know how Buddy's aunt is doing. I will keep you all close in prayer and my heart.

Lindsay--If you need to talk please pm me or call, you have my number!

Sheryl--I hope things work out with the dogsitting issue!

Kathy--What adventures Kyle is having this summer! I am so sorry for what happened with your sitter experience, that is horrible. I am so glad that Sammie is ok! We are very lucky with our groomer/boarder, they love Tahoe and have made it a bit obvious that he goes into their home with them at times and just sort of hangs out instead of being in the Kennel all the time. (mind you these kennels are with a toddler bed and floor bed with TV's playing animal planet or disney movies...for 14.00 a day which includes a bath on the last day of stay if it is longer then 5 days!) Tahoe is there so often that they don't always charge us and the joke is that we board him for them and that is his real home, lol. Stories like yours make me realize I need to leave a bigger tip next time.

Stephanie--How is the little one's ear doing tonight? I am glad to hear your sister is doing so well, but sorry you miss her company!

Supper tonight was Kabobs with chicken peppers and onions, wild rice anc cukes. A nice summer supper.

** Here is a story of my day.....walking down the aisle in the grocery store the strap on my favorite sandal snapped making it impossible to wear.....I was running 2 hrs behind schedule(that is a whole other story..ugh), had 1/4 of the store done and didn't want to have to leave to go home ( 15 min away) to change shoes. I tried to shuffle along, but that was NOT going to work, so I took off my shoes, walked to the aisle with the notebooks etc, grabbed some super glue and glued the strap back on....but not before gluing my hand to the shoe, my fingers together, then to the super glue itself, finally finishing it off with putting my foot in the shoe before the glue was dry and yep, gluing my foot into my shoe....it was almost an hour later before my foot came unglued! Poor Ross didn't know whether to laugh or go sit in the car and wait!
This was the part of my day that went well too......Hope everyone has/had a nice day.

And as Johnny said - she got paid very well to do it....:sad2:

Okay, I was laughing with Liam but I am dying now! :lmao::lmao: I have this vision of poor Ross trying to figure out the safe exit and you all...well.... stuck together :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Well Buddy is eating his tuna and I have Chinese leftovers. His Aunt is very sick. She is on the ventilator and the girls really do not know how she will be but they are just taking it day to day. I am appalled by the level of care that she has received from her Dr, until her DD lit a fire under him he was just plodding along. She is Stage 4 but with this kind of cancer there is a chance that even a few weeks would have made big difference. Thank you all for keeping her in your prayers. :grouphug:

I must have really been hungry after not eating much this week... ate the entire order of queso and half the bag of chips plus my entire bacon and bleu cheese burger and fries. Appox 4000 calories in one sitting but I didn't get breakfast or lunch so it's okay, right?
