The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

WFD-I'm experimenting with my crispy barbeque tofu by marinating and baking, rather than baking, then frying, then broiling. I also altered the coating by using soy milk rather than egg (the recipie calls for an egg white wash, as I hate the waste of a yolk I tried a whole egg, but it was too fatty, for lack of abetter term), and popping a little Coke in my barbeque sauce. For some weird reason i can't leave barbeque sauce alone-I think b/c I buy the cheap kind. I'll also have cousous and frozen spinach. For a salad I'm mixing up greek yogurt with packaged broccolli slaw (tomato-phobia struck me at the store, so I've been experimenting with other salad stuff other than lettuce/cucumber/tomato/peppers).

Wow, I had no idea about that price tag. I'm rethinking my drinking my way around world showcase idea. :scared1:

Yes, EPCOT drinks are expensive! Laura and I like the kir royales they sell at the champagne stand in France, but I think they are $9/each! When we go to food and wine this year (chomp it or chuck it 2008!), Laura, John, and I are planning on splitting all of the food and drinks three ways. Partly to save $$, and also so we won't be those bumbling plastered idiots you sometimes see at F+W! I added a bunch more adrs to our trip. Now we have Jiko, BlueZoo, Marrakesh, Crystal Palace breakfast, O'Hana breakfast, Chefs de France, 50's Prime Time, Artist Point, California Grill...am I forgetting anything Laura? I don't know if we'll keep them all but I figured it was good to have ADRs.

Shoyu Chicken

Sounds yummy, and easy! I think I will try this.

Nancy, I can't figure out how to multi quote you!
They were crying too :rotfl2:

:rotfl: :rotfl:

Did you put splenda IN the chili? Or am I reading wrong??

Well this is right up my alley. I made one that was similar but had some maple in it. My DH was horrified that I made his chicken taste like pancakes :rotfl2: so this one may terrify him less.

:rotfl: :rotfl: You are making me laugh at my desk!!
I may need to change plans, Buddy's Aunt is pretty sick.

I'm so sorry Nancy. I'll be thinking of you and Buddy.

WFD~ Cobb Salad using the left over grilled chicken from the other night.

Thanks for everyone's thought & prayers for my Mom. I have to run to my office this afternoon and I'm nervous that she will be alone.

Yum, I love cobb salad. I'm thinking of your Mom. I know it must be tough.

WFD-I'm experimenting with my crispy barbeque tofu

Yum, I love tofu! Let us know how it turns out.

Laura beats me in the curried chicken salad presentation photo, folks! All of my plated salad pictures came out blurry. I think I must have been too hungry. BUT, of course I was not going to not have a photo for you! So, here is the leftover curried chicken salad in a tupperware container this morning, packed for John's lunch!

Tonight we are having the blasted bok choy recipe that has been posted here, plus some tofu stir fried with chili-garlic sauce and whatever interesting veggies I have at the house, plus some rice....maybe coconut rice.

The team won again tonight. Liam had two at-bats, saw two pitches and both of them hit him...the first one in the head! He was completely fine though. On the way out of the game, I said the pitchers (two different ones) must have thought he was a really scary hitter so they hit him instead of pitching to him. He thought that was pretty funny. He was on deck when his team made its last out...I have to say I was a little relieved!

Oh my gosh! Is he ok today? I know sometimes you are more sore the day after, not that I'm not sure it hurt plenty when it happened. I do have to ask, does the sundae rule apply to a hit batter or just hits by your batter?

Shoyu Chicken

3/4 cup Soy Sauce (I used low sodium)
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 Teaspoon minced ginger
1-2 cloves of garlic minced
8 boneless skinless chicken thighs

Combine soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger and garlic in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil. Add chicken and cover. Reduce heat and simmer for 25 mimutes. Thats it! I served this with rice and green beans. Everyone raved.

That looks good. I have some boneless, skinless thighs in my freezer just waiting for a recipe to use them in.

Poor Buddy. I love you Nancy, but sometimes I just want to send Buddy several loaves of bread. ;)

Dinner tonight is supposed to be Chinese food. A few of the WW girls are going together for pedicures and then maybe having dinner at the Chinese restaurant next door. Kady is joining us for dinner because she usually comes to the meetings. She likes to be part of the clapping crowd :cheer2:

I think that is just precious.

They have placed her in His hands and will pray that if she is meant to be better she will be and if not that she will not suffer. Please say a prayer for them and one for Buddy as well. He is a man who internalizes pain and hurt so he is just so sad. :sad1: I don't even know what to say, he keeps trying to find reasons why his mother did not create one little message or include any information about his aunt. He cannot believe she would deliberately not tell him something knowing how much he cares about this woman.

I'll keep all of you in my prayers. Especially Buddy.

Not sure WFD tonight. I have a couple things in the freezer that I need to use, so I might defrost something today. DD's ear is still bothering her. We had planned to go to a waterpark today, but might skip it so she doesn't get more crud in her ear. Poor baby. And poor mommy--she came into our room screaming again last night around 3am and then DS joined her around 5. I need to get that California King bed ASAP

Bless both of you. Earaches are so miserable for Mom and child. I hope she feels better soon.

Swimming was so much fun yesterday. My DM loves the water but has got in a pool in about 8 years. She has 2 hip replacements and let that hold her back. She was so happy playing with DS in the pool. It made me real happy.
We got some really nice pictures too!

That's so nice. Amazing what they'll do for their grandchildren, isn't it?

That sounds like a lot of fun. We are planning our next year's trip for a week during F&W, but honestly, I don't think we could split the drinks and still not be one of those plastered idiots. I could probably manage, but Kenny is a cheap date. (He'd die if he knew I told all of you that, but gets glassy eyed at drink 2). Maybe we'll have to attack it a little each day.

Tonight's dinner is rib eye steaks with basalmic glaze and maybe some baby red potatoes. I'm trying to do something I know Kenny would like because I'm leaving in the morning to spend a weekend with my mother and sister in Atlanta shopping. We leave early tomorrow morning and we're coming home on Sunday evening. I've put a couple meals in the freezer he can heat while I'm gone, so I hope they don't live on fast food.

I'll try to check back in this afternoon/evening, but if not, I'll see you all when I get back.

Gretchen

Sandy - Thanks, where have you been??????? I've thought about you and missed you. Please try and post more often.
I've been around. I've just found it so hard to keep up with this thread. I'll try to post more often. :goodvibes

WFD? Spaghetti and meatballs, salad, and mozzarella garlic bread.

Nancy -- I'll keep you, Buddy and his aunt in my thoughts and prayers. On a less serious note, you were killing me with the stories about the chili and the pancake-flavored chicken.

DD's ear is still bothering her.

I hope she feels better soon, so you can get some sleep. With your busy schedule, I would collapse if I missed a couple hours of sleep.

For some weird reason i can't leave barbeque sauce alone

My brother always puts beer in the barbecue sauce. He says it adds flavor and prevents the sauce from burning.

Oh my gosh! Is he ok today? I know sometimes you are more sore the day after, not that I'm not sure it hurt plenty when it happened. I do have to ask, does the sundae rule apply to a hit batter or just hits by your batter?

He is fine, thanks for asking! I am sure he has a bruise on his leg from the second one, but I'm sure I couldn't figure out which one it is amid all the others.

I didn't think about the sundae thing, but I don't want to encourage him to get hit by pitches all the time. At least now he tries to get out of the way!

The pours are really small...you would probably need four to make a regular glass...maybe five if you're talking about how I pour wine. ;)

Have a great time this weekend!

I know what you mean - and I always feel bad if I leave someone out. :flower3:

This thread moves so quickly, it is hard to keep up with everything. Just post what and when you can.

We have a night off from baseball tonight :yay: , and the weather is milder, so we get to have a regular dinner tonight. I'm making grilled salmon, eggplant sticks, and I haven't figured out the rest yet.

I hope everyone is having a good summer. We've been really busy here, my daughter had her birthday sunday so we've been getting by with leftovers for dinner. It's been great not having to cook in the heat. Tonight though I'm making roast turkey thighs and stuffing, I don't know what I'm thinking- it's pretty warm here, even though the humidity is a little less.
Just wanted to check in and say hi, enjoy the rest of the day.

How was the game? I am glad that you enjoyed alone time...:)

They won and Kyle pitched real well so we all had a good night!;)

YUM! We love Yak and Yeti! Did you like the green beans? I'm drooling just thinking about them. We have ressies there for our September & October trips. DD and I were just wondering if we were getting the green beans or the pot stickers. We decided on both!

Dinner tonight is the Shephards Pie recipe from Raglan Road.

The Green beans were awesome. I forgot to ask for the recipe when I was there. If anyone thinks of it. I would love to have it.:worship:

Hey you guys, I need some ideas. I was watching 30 Minute Meals today and Rachael Ray made this:

http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_28689,00.html

It looked so good and she said you can totally adapt it to different flavors, like Chinese, Italian, etc. Since Mexican/Latin food doesn't agree with me, I was wanting to try another flavor. Basically all you are doing is switching out the spices. Anyone have any suggestions?

DH & I are going to Y&Y for lunch in November and I think we're going to split a couple of appetizers, the green beans for sure and maybe the lettuce cups?

I have never had the lettuce cups! I'll bet they are wonderful! I wish you were going first so you could tell me about them before we get there! :) Can't wait to hear about them after you get back. Or maybe we will be adventurous and order them too! We could get 3 appetizers and 1 entree and just share them all! :upsidedow

It will be DH's first time there (to Yak & Yeti) and I want to get a "sure thing" to make sure he likes it! The September trip is for our 25th anniversary, & our first trip to WDW alone! :lovestruc

The October trip is me and our youngest DD. It will be her last Fall Break from LSU. We have to get our WDW time in before she graduates in December!

By the way... I am making the Shephards Pie for dinner, and my potatoes are "mealy/grainy"... Anyone know if I can "creamy" them up, or is it too late? :confused3

:thumbsup2 You got it!

I am going to have to learn how to post pictures. Y'all inspired me to start taking "food porn" pictures, and I have... but I don't know how to post them! :rotfl:

(And I know y'all are worried about my potatoes... after I posted on here, I went back are whipped them some more - I guess my arm needed a rest! They are better now. Well, more whipping and more butter! ;) )

Lindsay, what ingredients in the recipe don't agree with you? I know you don't like chili powder but I don't see that listed. And are you planning on making the accompanying sauces, or just the main dish?

Can you ask for the Green bean recipe please :yay:

Of course I will.:goodvibes

and also so we won't be those bumbling plastered idiots you sometimes see at F+W!

I was like that after one Margarita from the stand in Mexico! :rolleyes1 By the time I got to China I was :hippie: :rotfl:

Dinner tonight is grilled chicken and squash. I marinated the chicken in Purple Basil, lemon juice, lemon rind, olive oil and salt and pepper. I'll grill that with the rest of the patty pan squash.
