The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Lauren--I am so sorry that the news wasn't what anyone would want to hear...I will be anxious this next month for you, I can't even begin to imagine how you must be feeling. Waiting is the worse part I think. I hope that they can give you something this time to make it a bit easier for you. I wish I lived closer so I could take A that day for you, I think Ross and him would get along great. Prayers said!!Please if there is anything at all I can do just PM me!!

Gretchen--For the fish I make a rub out of Old Bay and Lemon Pepper and then pan sear it with a bit of white wine. I sometimes make a white wine cheese sauce to go over it afterwards. Simple and gooood.

Becky--As always you impress with the food photos!! I am glad that John is not minding the food this time around, though I think it might have to do with the fact that the crab dish burned his taste buds off with all those peppers!!

Sheryl--I am just loving the Alexis story!! I can just see her shaking her booty to the music!!:cool1:

Nancy--Great job on the weight loss!! I am glad that Kady is your new dietician, ;) !

Kat--That chicken recipe looks sooo good and of course...EASY!! How is Kyle doing with the coaching?

Thanks everyone for the good wishes for Dad....He finally said that if it still hurts tomorrow that he needs to get checked, so we will go off to the emergency room for a check up and X-ray. I hope he is better, but I do think it might be a cracked rib, nothing they can do for it though.:worried:
He did have a good day otherwise, I came home from my appt. and my Godfather was here for a visit, (he moved back to Maine after my godmother died) and he is going to pick my dad up Thursday night to go out to sing barbershop. They have always sung in a quartet and a chordsman group. In fact 3/4 of the "glowtones" will be together Thursday night(their group from 30+ yrs ago). He is really looking forward to this.
We are also going to Sam's club on Thursday (for some reason he just loves this:confused: )

That is the latest on Dad, I will let you all know how he makes out tomorrow, please keep him in your thoughts, (and me too he is a bit of a dramatic baby on these things)

Nancy, Great job on the weight loss! :thumbsup2

As far as the pain goes with the biopsy, they put a topical on that numbs the skin but the needle has to go pretty far in, then they have to loosen some cells (by jabbing the needle around a bit) and that area has alot of nerves that can be affected. They will do this 4 times for each nodule and each poke lasts about 30 - 60 seconds. Its just unpleasant, you can't move or swallow and alot of pressure (kind of feels like the bones in my neck are being jabbed)....Yeah, and I am a big baby too. ;) Sorry for TMI...

**********
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. I am sure I will be fine. I guess I should have made the appt for sooner but wanted to do it after vacation.

**********
Wendie, I am glad your Dad agreed to go to the doctor. It sounds like he will have a hoot singing with the guys too. You are right, A and Ross would probably have a blast together...we'll have to get them together some day...thank you!

**********
I was thinking of the NOLA gals earlier...Tom had a team building event last week with his department and he showed me some pics tonight. Don't ask why, but there was a skit they did and Tom wore a lime green boa and a angel's halo!!! he won't let me post the pic though...

**********
OK all, thanks again...caio for now!

Hey look! Its me...:hyper: ! We got a hyper smilie!!! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Very simple...I chopped it up and put it in a saute pan with a little butter (you could use water instead, but I always opt for butter) and some soy sauce. I cooked it until the greens were wilted...that's it.

Thanks. I have made it before but used it in a stir fry and that looked pretty tasty just by itself. :thumbsup2

Wendie- hopefully he is just bruised, nothing broken and will be right as rain in a few days.

Blech. I am not feeling well this morning. I have been fighting sinus stuff the past few days and now it's making me feel ick all over. I have an appointment with my chiropractor/kinesiologist/natural medicine guru tomorrow so hopefully he can help me out. Not to mention I woke up with a crick in my neck.

Anyhoo, we are having leftover jambasta tonight.

ETA: One more thing. I apologize for being crabby the other day. It's just May/first part of June has been very expensive for us. We bought a new mattress, which we paid for with our stimulus check. No problem. Then came my shower $2,000+. And I didn't even mention this: last Thursday when I was at my parent's house showering, I couldn't get my car out of park. VERY long story short, we dropped it off at the Honda place to get it looked at and have a 60,000 mile check-up on it. *sigh* My engine mounts were broken and my engine was about to fall right out of my car- all total $1,000.

I have been trying to save some money here and there, especially in the food area, like making more crockpot meals, making "leftover meals," etc. And to hear I've got to make yet another dessert and pay for/make a dadgum vegetable platter just sent me into what my mother calls a "come-apart." I'm tired of having to spend money, I'm tired, sick, have PMS, and I think this just caught me at a bad time.

That said, thanks for letting me vent. It helps more than anything.

Love you guys :grouphug:

Good Morning,

A has a game so dinner will be quick...left over American Chop Suey and whatever else sounds good at the time.

Have a great day!

Happy Birthday Kyle!!!

Hey - did anyone else notice the Nov hours are finally up? :rolleyes1

FINALLY! I now have to switch up a few ADRs....:furious:

Kat--That chicken recipe looks sooo good and of course...EASY!! How is Kyle doing with the coaching?

That is the latest on Dad, I will let you all know how he makes out tomorrow, please keep him in your thoughts, (and me too he is a bit of a dramatic baby on these things)

Why, of course it's EASY!!:lmao:

Kyle's doing great with the coaching, he's doing a session later this morning!

I hope your Dad has a great time re-uniting with his barbershop buddies.

I'd have loved to see that one!;)

THANKS for the birthday wish for my boy, YEP, he's 18 TODAY!!!!!!! He has a baseball game this evening so we're going to take him out to dinner tomorrow night.

WFD - Crockpot Beef Stew, brown rice and broccoli!

Good Morning,

Tonights dinner will be a repeat of last night's dinner. DD is being inducted to the National Honor Society:yay: at 7pm so will be a late night and I know for sure that I will not feel like cooking. Which leaves me all day to come up with something wonderful for tomorow night!

Congrats, all her hard work and yours is paying off!!:thumbsup2

Funny story. A is up at bat, then calls time out...:confused3 His tooth fell out!!! :rotfl: He stood there showing the ump, then stuck it in his pocket, then proceeded to strike out! :rolleyes1

:lmao:

I have to tell you my Nana moment. Kady threw her arms around my waist and told me that she loved me....and she was so excited that she could hold her own hands now when she hugged me! This kid has been counting points for me so she figured the success was all hers :thumbsup2
Keep it up, this must have made your day...so precious!:flower1:

That is the latest on Dad, I will let you all know how he makes out tomorrow, please keep him in your thoughts, (and me too he is a bit of a dramatic baby on these things)

Goodluck to Dad today, let us know how he makes out. ;)

Have a great day!

Good luck to A today! Not sure if DN will play tonight, it is raining right now.

THANKS for the birthday wish for my boy, YEP, he's 18 TODAY!!!!!!! He has a baseball game this evening so we're going to take him out to dinner tomorrow night.
:bday: to Kyle!!!!!

Sorry if I missed anyone. Aimee, hope the job hunt is going well for your DH.
I hope Glynis is enjoying herself, I would be!

Depending on the weather DS and I maybe going to the game, to cheer on DN.

WFD- who knows what Luke and I will eat, but I am leaving some baked chicken wings for DH to chow down between jobs.

Have a great day everyone. Goodluck to all the athletes and prayers to everyone!

Girl, I've been there. I didn't think you came across as crabby but nonetheless, everyone has the right to be crabby somedays :goodvibes

FINALLY! I now have to switch up a few ADRs....:furious:

I switched my plans around a little, too. They were mostly reflective of the last 2 years like I planned off of with only one change - but it was a big one

DH got a call from another city FD today inviting him to take the physical test! :cool1: So now he has two possibilities of getting hired this summer. Oh, I pray it comes through. He's 30 and still not in the career that he wants and I want so badly for him to be happy and fulfilled through his work like I am.

Tonight is fast food. I have a late meeting so we're each on our own.

 We all have those days, vent away!

WFD- grilled salmon, cous cous and beets.

Wendie, if your dad did crack a rib, it could help him feel better if you tape his ribcage—or use a really long ace bandadge to wrap his torso.

Lindsay, sorry things have been a little rough for you. I can relate, I suffer badly from PMS too and it turns me into a hormonal freak. At least I know that is what is happening, and it only lasts for a couple of days.

Last night I did not really feel like cooking, so I just made a BLT on a baguette.

2549203459_e22707b21d.jpg

Tonight I am making some honey sesame tofu. It is a recipe that is in the Cooking with Mickey book. It is meant to be made with chicken but I am sick of chicken so am making it with tofu. I am also making some vegetable fried rice to go with it.

John told me that you are not supposed to eat the chilis in that crab dish. They are sauteed with the crabs, and then when you pick up the crab to eat it, the oil from the chilis flavors the meat. He did say it was quite spicy though!

I hope everyone is having a good day. It is pouring rain here.

I'm going to take advantage of our cool, rainy day- we are having spaghetti and meatballs. I'm assuming at some point it will be to hot for that so I'll make the best of our weather. They are saying 90's this weekend, I hope that doesn't last long. I know all you southeners must be laughing at me now, but low 70's is plenty hot enough for me. I think I have some ciabbatta in the basement freezer, if I do I'll make some garlic oil to dip it in.
Becky- where do you get your bread from? We used to get our bread from Pain Davion (sp?), don't know if you heard of them, but they had a fire and their retail shop is not reopened yet. That was the only place to get good bread around here. I assume in boston you have a lot more bread options than we do.

Hey Y'all,

My multi-quoting was a mess!

Nancy, Congrats to you or uh Kady on the weight loss!! ;) :lmao:

Lindsay, You didn't sound crabby at all, but you have every right to be!

Wendie, I hope your Dad is okay! Glad that he's getting together with his buddies, hope he has a great time!

Laura, That looks yuummyy!! :thumbsup2

Becky, That's the best looking blt ever!

Oh Bathing Suits.:scared1: I just went on to Land's End and used the virtual model to pick out & buy a suit! Even that was depressing! You put in all your measurements, my model looked waaay different from the original! And she still doesn't have the cellulite, stretch marks & other realistic problems! I ended up ordering a suit with swim shorts. :(

Hopefully dinner tonight is going to be grilled chicken thighs. I think I'm going with amediterreanean marinade, hummus, naan & salad. I'm not getting much accomplished since summer started for Alexis. All Alexis all the time!

Happy Birthday Kyle!!!

Lauren's greeting looked so good and mine are so boring.Lauren, I hope you don't mind.

:rotfl2: My brother and his wife are having their first child next month, and I can't wait to see if my mother's curse on him worked. He was quite a handful. My brother is the youngest and my father swears if he was first, he and mom would have only had one child.

:rotfl::rotfl:

Gretchen- I love custard pie. I don't blame Kenny, I would have been into that pie before he got to it ::yes::

As to the seventh grader, he'll still be there, and he still won't know "what's the problem?" ;) That is where the guilty pleasure comes in....you know that someday he is going to know............

I have been cutting back on what I eat but not really "dieting" I don't handle that word well. I think I'll give the WW core plan a real try. I need to get rid of my middle.

I never lasted on any "diet" and WW was no exception. The real kick was that throughout my adult life I never had a weight problem until.....
The Core program has been a good one for me and I am losing weight, although it is not the big losses others experience. I have lost all of the puffiness I have had and I feel so much better in general. If you have any questions, PM Kady'sMom. Se knows a lot about it.

Thanks everyone for the good wishes for Dad....He finally said that if it still hurts tomorrow that he needs to get checked, so we will go off to the emergency room for a check up and X-ray. I hope he is better, but I do think it might be a cracked rib, nothing they can do for it though.:worried:

I hope that the pain is gone and he does not need the ER> I would love to hear those guys sing. I enjoy barbershop.

Tom wore a lime green boa and a angel's halo!!! he won't let me post the pic though...

Well no wonder you have pain! That sounds a lot like torture, so don't worry about telling us. I just wish it was easier on you.

I would have loved to see Tom in his DIS'er Green!

Blech. I am not feeling well this morning.

That said, thanks for letting me vent. It helps more than anything.

Love you guys :grouphug:

Hope that you feel better soon!

Don't worry about a little complaining. I do it all the time, feel better after and then do what I have to do. Much better than not complaining and not getting it done.

Sheryl- that is what finally put me over the edge. Last year I bought another suit, this one with shorts. I got into the pool and they filled out like a parachute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:scared: I swear, it was even worse than the other bathing suit disasters I have had!

Yeah, I know. But even at my lowest weight, my rear end is not something anyone should have to see! Since we have a pool & I'm in a suit most of the day, if someone has to see me, it won't scare them too much!

I am off to drive Andrew to his game...good luck to Kyle and Ann's neice this evening!!!

Good luck to Andrew and Kyle! DN got a rain delay, we have not heard yet when they are going to play.

I just baked chicken wings for DH, they smell so good.

Hummus question again...for those of you who have made your own, how long is the frig life on this stuff?

Ann

Becky- where do you get your bread from? We used to get our bread from Pain Davion (sp?), don't know if you heard of them, but they had a fire and their retail shop is not reopened yet.

I do know that bakery--I think they are selling again, but only wholesale for now. I get my baguettes at a little bakery on the Boston/Brookline line called Japoinaise. I used to live around the corner from it and got addicted to their breads. I don't live nearby anymore but the bakery is only a couple of blocks from my office and so I walk up there when I want bread.

If I want bread on the weekends, I usually buy Iggys Breads of the World. There is one supermarket near my house that carries it.
