The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

What new store???????

Nothing you need to run over here for. It's the Super Laborie's they opened on the corner of Lapalco & Barataria. Remember I was so upset about it. I was hoping for a Rouse's. Well, it's much better & nicer than I expected! They obviously are trying to compete with Rouse's. It has a huge wine dept. (you know how important that is to me!;) ) and a guy working there that really knows wine! I was shocked! They also have a nice cheese dept, larger ethnic food dept. & just a nice selection of products. It will be a wait & see, if it stays nice though. The little Laborie's right by my house, is in very poor condition. I won't even buy frozen food or meat there anymore.

Well that alone is enough to make me want to check it out!;)

Last night I was going to make the olive garden soup (I think someone asked for the recipe, I'll post when I find it) but I ended up making manicotti. It came out really good, and the best part- enough leftovers for another meal. After dinner I choked down the cake my husband and daughter made me. Apparently he didn't know you have to grease the pan, or how to wash the dishes. They tried their best but I don't like cake to begin with, let alone a mix.
I don't know what's for dinner tonight, I have some chicken legs in the fridge but I wanted to portion them up and freeze them for in the summer when there is to much traffic to go to the store. I don't know-I'll figure something out.

Well that alone is enough to make me want to check it out!;)

I don't know if it's any larger than Rouse's but I found that they had a larger selection of "better" wines. I need to tell Mrs Kreamer about it, though.

Lauren- Between you and Tom the renovation is exacting a heavy price. I have heard about blood and sweat but your family gives BONE!

Sheryl and Laura- the girls would have a great time. Kady dresses her stuffies too. She says they are her friends. I am going to tell her about the fishing. She got a fishing pole from the Easter Bunny this year and has been pestering her Pa to take her soooooooooon!

Rogue- I have never figured out why there is such a mess when my DH fixes something to eat. He would never try to bake though, he'd ask Risa to pick something up and then claim it as his own :lmao::lmao::lmao:. At least your family gave it a shot :thumbsup2

Gretchen- Oh poor you! I don;t miss those teenage years, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. My sister's youngest boy was a pill! His father was his best buddy, let him do whatever he wanted adn rewarded him for disrespecting his Mother. His grades went downhill and he resembled a Neanderthal! Well after what did seem like forever he graduated from HS< joined the Marines (which was a very good thing for him) and is back to his wonderful self. I think it takes a few years for them to become human again, but it does happen. You and Kenny take care of yourselves, I'll add a prayer that he does not have CP. :grouphug:

Gretchen -- I meant to say earlier that it is nice to hear from you. I hope your stepson doesn't have chicken pox...even if he is giving you a tough time, I wouldn't wish that on anyone!

Was that the same recipe Becky uses for chicken salad?

Yes it is. It is SO yummy.

After dinner I choked down the cake my husband and daughter made me. Apparently he didn't know you have to grease the pan, or how to wash the dishes. They tried their best but I don't like cake to begin with, let alone a mix.

You are a good mom! What is it with men and dishes?? Greg's idea of washing the dishes is sticking them in the sink to "soak." Funny how the soaking lasts however long it takes me to get tired of seeing the dishes in the sink and wash them myself.

It took me a minute to figure out why there would be too much traffic for you to get to the store in the summer. :upsidedow I apologize in advance for contributing to the problem some days. :flower3:

Sheryl and Laura- the girls would have a great time.

Now that is a playdate that would be difficult to coordinate! I am sure we would all have fun though.

I'm not sure Caili would make a great fisher. If she caught anything, she would probably try to convince us that she could bring it home and put it in her fish tank.

One thing we all have in common, WDW! Now that would be a great playdate for everyone!! Mommies & Nanas included of course! ;)

Hi! Disney Ron, thanks for the warm welcome! I guess I'll intro myself. Tracy, 31, full-time student (HS Eng), waitress at family Italian restaurant, mom to two (ds 8 and dd 7), and planning a wedding (frighteningly soon!) to df, 29, teacher. We live in Central, IL. I love to cook and love to bake. My specialty is breakfast! I like to fatten those around me...makes me look skinnier! So, that's me in nutshell!
shovan- Those pics look amazing! Magazine quality shots!
Tigerkat- Cool pic of ds. Neat angle!
hersey- Come on down, too. Our cake will serve 150 and looks like we are only going to have 100!

Last night we went to Flat Top (make your own stir-fry) for Mother's Day. We had big 'ol stir-fries and a "triple chocolate storm" for dessert (aka brownie ala mode). Then the kids got home from xh's and made me a cake! What's a mom to do? I had to eat a piece?!?
Hope all of your Mom's Days were nice, too!

Hi Tracy, Welcome again! My name is Ann. I have been married just over 2 years and have a wonderful souvenier from our honeymoon named Luke (18 months). I am a stepmother to DSD 21 and DSS 19. I am Nanny to a 2.5 year old DGS. I have a really hard working DH (Ron) and I am lucky to be a SAHM. I got my love for food from my Mom. Please share any wedding details.

Gosh, you ladies have been chatty today! I knew if I started quoting people I would miss someone.

It was so cold at the game but we bundled up and stuck it out. DN pitched and we won 10-0.

WFD- Luke had meatballs, honeydew melon, cheerios and raisins. He was starved I guess. I made myself a ribeye. I know I will be raiding my pantry for a snack later!

Laura- the traffic does get to me at times, and tourists really only bother me at the grocery store (especially when they just have on bathing suits), but I honestly can't complain. I don't know how anyone here can really, most of us wouldn't have jobs without tourism- I think in the frustration residents seem to forget that. And at the end of the day- I still live on the cape- not to bad.
Now to take the opportunity to brag about my husband. This was not the first bad cake he made me. One year while I was in college he made me a birthday cake, and drove it all the way to my dorm. He walked down the hall with the ugliest cake ever- and I was a baking and pastry major at Johnson and Wales. That takes courage. A few dirty dishes aren't the end of the world. He had a pretty serious medical scare recently (okay now) and spent quite a while in the hospital, so basically he gets away with anything- for now.

:scared1: That would be enough for me to stock my freezer for the summer too!!

I am glad your husband is okay, and I am impressed by his confidence. I am also impressed by your baking credentials. I love baking, but I try to keep it to holidays. Otherwise, my family (extended...my kids can eat anything...but I don't let them ;) ) complains that I am making them fat.

Please feel free to share recipes!

I had a really healthy meal tonight. :rolleyes1 It was leftover fried chicken and leftover eggplant sticks. I think I consumed more than a cup of oil. Ugh.

The egg rolls it is for dinner. And of course I completely forgot I am going to a baseball game when I was planning dinner for tomorrow night. :sad2:

Saying that takes courage is an understatement.....:thumbsup2 to him!!

Tonight is Scott's monthly Geek Meeting so I am on my own. I have no idea what I will do for dinner. I may order pizza, I'm feeling lazy today.

No set dinner plans tonight because Ron is working a double. Luke and I have a busy day. I am getting a much needed haircut. My DM is going to babysit. When I am done I have to take my DM to do some errands Sam's Club and a couple more. This weekend we have my DN college graduation. My DM is doing most of the cooking. I was asked to bring my homemade calzones. We have so many family parties coming up this year (3 graduations, 80th b-day DD, bridal shower, rehearsal dinner and DN wedding).
Just the thought .......uggggggggh, I hate giving up my weekends...but they will be fun and good food & cocktails!

Today, Luke and I are going to another softball game for DN. This one is at home and it generally is a much warmer field. Luke is DN's biggest fan, he loves to clap and yell "go-go and woohoo"!

Have a fun day everyone!

Warning: I sliced my finger pretty bad this AM and having a hard time typing so forgive my typos!

Funny thing is, Tom is so careful and makes sure we are careful too (of course)...he goes and shoots a 1/2 " staple right into his finger yesterday. My gosh, he wouldn't stop complaining about it yesterday. "Do you think its broke"? "Do you think I chipped a bone"? Blah Blah Blah!

I bet you two are a sight to see! Hope those fingers feel better soon!

Glad it went so well!! Any pics to share?

I never even thought about taking pictures until well after. I always love looking at the food porn on this site and I wish I could have added mine to it. But I so forgot! darn it....

On the fish, you can do anything with roughy. That's a firm, mild & flaky fish, so anything would be good. Mmmm, fish tacos!

Ooh, I love fish tacos. Maybe I'll do that.

Ya know - that is something I've never had - fish tacos. Maybe I need to get out of the south more often. Or just make them myself!!

Last night I was going to make the olive garden soup (I think someone asked for the recipe, I'll post when I find it) but I ended up making manicotti.

I'd love the recipe when you get a chance to post it.
I love manicotti too!! One of DH's favorite meals I make. Once you make your pasta filler - you can stuff it in any pasta you want - I love those huge shell ones too. Stuffed Shells! :thumbsup2

Well - as I predicted - I had leftovers for dinner - and DH came home and made him a frozen pizza. I guess I'll end up feeding my dog a lot of food. He loves it when I over cook!! That dog will eat anything - yes even the roasted veggies. He's not picky. Maybe I need to keep the dog in and put my husband outside! :lmao:

Tonight's dinner is still up in the air. I certainly am done with leftovers. But we'll probably have some Smart Ones or Lean Cuisines.

Hope everyone has a great day!
Toodles :hippie:

Hi, Ladies (you are all ladies, right?;) )! My WFDs are probably going to be pretty boring for the next few weeks! I am trying to cokk anything involved! I had a nice big salad with tons of veggies (I am a big time veggie eater!), the kids had a frozen pizza, and df had several bowls of cereal and some cookies (NOT a veggie eater-pretty sure his body rejects anything remotely healthy).
Piglet843- Stuffed shells are one of ds' fave things! He had me make them for his bday! I make a few with spinach and onion for myself, otherwise it is ch or sausage! I also made a garlic bread thing that is like monkey bread (chopped up biscuits, but rolled in garlic, butter, and parm, then baked in a bundt pan).
Rogue, Liam- Men and dishes...I'll never understand, first, how they make such a huge mess, and send, when the soaking actually ends? Wait, I know when the soaking ends. When I wash them. DF forgets tupperware at work until it "grows" things:eek: . Then he brings it home and soaks it.
DRon- EEK. I hope I don't get a souvenier on my hmoon!?! Ds would love it, but we are waiting until I am done with school (3 years).
Formercastmmbr- We bought a fabulously sharp knife a few months ago. I was chatting with a friend while dicing potatos. Voila...new secreat ingredient. Let's just say that new sharp knife was very, very sharp!
Aimee- I like things cheap and easy, too. I do so much running with the kids during the school year, and df is working on his master's (in addition to working!), so we usually eat at different times and it is crazy!
Rogue- It was me that asked about the soup. DF likes to go to lunch at OG and he never eats the salad. Just bowls and bowls of soup. He did point out, hoever, that the soup does hame some greenery in it!

Morning Y'all,

Now to take the opportunity to brag about my husband. This was not the first bad cake he made me. One year while I was in college he made me a birthday cake, and drove it all the way to my dorm. He walked down the hall with the ugliest cake ever- and I was a baking and pastry major at Johnson and Wales. That takes courage. A few dirty dishes aren't the end of the world. He had a pretty serious medical scare recently (okay now) and spent quite a while in the hospital, so basically he gets away with anything- for now.

Your DH is one brave guy! :thumbsup2 Glad that his health problems are over, but don't let him get away with too much for too long!!! While they take forever to learn to clean, they can UN-LEARN it VERY QUICKLY!!! ;)

Ann, If the family is requesting your calzones, you have got to give us your recipe!!!

We have a graduation this week too. DSil will graduate on Thursday with his CRNA degree. Why hold a graduation in the middle of the week? :confused3 I don't know. They are going to buy boiled crawfish, so far DD hasn't requested any other food.

I never even thought about taking pictures until well after. I always love looking at the food porn on this site and I wish I could have added mine to it. But I so forgot! darn it....

:

Gina, We will forgive you this time! But next big bash, we MUST have pictures!!! ;)

I had never had, seen or heard of fish tacos, until everyone here starting chatting about them. I had to make them myself just to see what all the hoorah was about! Definitely worth taking the time to fix! Yuuummy!

I'm not sure WFD, I'm not feeling inspired yet. Need more coffee!

guys, my finger is bruised, swollen, sore and I cannot bend it even to 90 degrees...is this normal? its not a big cut but deep.

if i knew how to post pics i would...wierd. i dont wanna ask tom cuz then he'll start with his finger. he already said i am being punished since i laughed at his staple incident.

Here is the Olive Garden Soup recipe, it's a copycat, but tastes exact to me

1 lb. hot italian sausage, casing removed
1/2 lb. bacon or pancetta, chopped
1 quart water
2 14.5oz cans chicken broth (I just use one of the boxes, I think 32 oz)
2 large potatoes, cubed (I use more)
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 med. onion, diced
2 cups kale, chopped (I use most of the bunch-don't know what else to do with it)
1 cup heavy cream
salt and pepper (I don't usually add salt, doesn't need it w/ the sausage)

Brown sausage, drain, set aside. Brown bacon, drain, set aside
In a large pot, add water, broth, potatoes, garlic, and onion. Simmer over medium heat until potatoes are tender.
Add sausage and bacon, simmer 10 minutes.
Add kale and cream, heat through.

Reheat any leftovers slowly so it doesn't separate.
