The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

It's not official as Kyle has not signed anything but it looks like Kyle's and our dream may be coming true. We have a local Junior College, Delgado, that has an excellent baseball program and it's just across the river(maybe a 20 minute drive). Kyle has always dreamed of being able to play here in NOLA. The Delgado baseball coach approached Johnny at the Shaw play-off game today and said he wants to meet with us as soon as our playoff season is over, he REALLY wants Kyle for his program and is ready to talk $$$ and make an offer but he doesn't want this to be a distraction while we're still playing for state championship. Needless to say we are ecstatic and he'll be staying home, ya know Mama likes that.:goodvibes

Thanks Lauren & Wendie.....

Fingers crossed for Kyle. Congrats to you and your DH as well. Good parents don't get enough credit nowdays.

I lost you guys for a while... I go out of town on a business trip get behind on the DIS, then can't find you when I first looked around...

Since this thread is about friendship and food, I'll give you a brief rundown of my CA trip.

I went on my work trip to Anaheim, and got just a little time in the parks. I mostly walked a lot (the timing was off, so I was always in the park when it was super crowded) but I did lots of good eating. It was a good thing the convention center was about a 20 minute walk from the hotel.

I ate at Napa Rose the first night, with a friend I had met on a disney cruise thread. There are around 9 of us that have kept up on that thread over the last couple of years. (Our cruise was actually in 2006) It was wonderful to see her.

Because I liked the restaurant so much, I went back the next night and ate at the Chef's table...with wine pairings... It was good that I could take the elevator up to my room.

In DL, I managed to get the garlic frieds AND crab salad sandwhich (though I didn't eat the bread -- had to sacrific something because I ate the fries!), the baked potato soup, and the coconut/banana pie in DTD at the Jazz Cafe.

Sending PD out to those who have lost friends, loved ones, are sick etc. We had a good family friend pass away yesterday. My heart is breaking for her daughter, as I just went through this a year and a half ago. I think that makes me more emotional when a friend loses their mother.

WFD: whatever we can grab after the visitation and baseball and soccer practices are over tonight. :)

We had this last night and it was TDF--if you like curry

Curried Chicken Wraps
Ina Garten

I can vouch for this recipe as well. It is the recipe Beck uses for her curried chicken salad. Yum!! Thanks for posting it Stephanie...I think I lost my copy.

If Kady caught a squirrel no one would be eating it, she would drag out one of her harnesses, tie the poor thing up and then try to make it live in her doll house dressed in one of her Webkinz outfits!
:lmao: :lmao:

I am just like Rachel Ray-I am not a chef-I am a cook..lol. So bear with me writing them down-if I can remember to do it right when I finish cooking we are good..lol cause (((((((((pssssst...most have NO recipe)))))))))) Sue

I think that describes most of us here. I don't use recipes most of the time either.

WFD- I am thinking brats and sauerkraut subs.

Greg would be happy if I served that. I was thinking fish though.

Since this thread is about friendship and food, I'll give you a brief rundown of my CA trip.

Thanks for sharing. It sounds like you had some good meals. :thumbsup2

Ann has me tempted by the brats and sauerkraut, but I think I am going to stick with the fish tacos I had originally planned. It's time to take Caili and her friend to gymnastics. Have a good day everyone!

I am making Thai Noodle Salad with Tofu. I have NEVER bought much less cooked tofu so I am a wee bit worried but CL gave some tips for how to work with it.

I'm not telling DH what it is unless he asks. He's never had tofu and thinks it's gross already.

I just got home from doing errands and I returned home with beer...so BRATS it is for us tonight! (I also got a bottle of Arbor Mist wine for me!)We haven't had these since football season.

I usually steam my Brats in beer for 15 minutes with whole pepper corns and a little crushed red pepper. Then I will grill them later tonight for that yummy charbroiled flavor. (when cooking I always use thongs, poking with a fork will let all the juice run out)

I rinse my sauerkraut off. I sauteed an onion in some butter, then add my kraut with either a 1/4 cup of chicken broth or the beer liquid from the brats.

I am going to serve fries and a tomato salad along with it.

I am off now to install much needed child proof locks to Luke-a-tize my home!

Ann

Morning Y'all,

I didn't totally get out of cooking last night, but went easy with a mushroom, pancetta omelet & a spinach salad. I should have put the spinach in the omelet like I did last time, that was a lot tastier.

Hey Lindsay, Great Job on the food porn! :thumbsup2 That recipe sounds yummy too!

Marci, Lucky you a work trip that included Chef's Table & wine pairings at Napa Rose!!! :worship: You didn't happen to take food porn pics of that meal did you? Also, sorry to hear of your loss.:flower3:

nucpharm-Stephanie, That chicken recipe sounds good. If it's the one Becky uses for her chicken salad it must be yummy. I have a dumb question though. The major grey chutney is that a mango chutney. I have to admit, I don't think I've ever bought a jar of chutney before. It's just not used that much down here I guess. I've made chutney like fruit mixes, but have never even noticed a jar of it in the groceries.

Kathy, Lori, Mrs K, Am I suffering from Chutney blindness or what? Can I get that at Winn Dixie or WalMart?

I'm feeling really indecisive today, can't decide wants for dinner. Sorsha's enchiladas, Steph's vindaloo or my tomatillo sauce with chicken. :sad2:

Glynis, How is Leslie's foot?

Oooh! brats & sauerkraut and fish tacos sound good too! Maybe I should go eat some lunch before I decide on dinner. :upsidedow

That is definately me. I just throw stuff in the pan that I want to eat together.

Saw an interesting thing about FoodTv yesterday and the "chefs" on there. Quite a few of them are not professional chefs and in some cases have no real cooking experience. Now Rachel Ray admits she is not a chef, just a cook. And they said that several peoples recipes won't work if you try them at home because they take a recipe that is supposed to be for 20-30 people and divide it down to 2-4 servings. Like Giada and Ingrid Hoffmann. Recipes by people like Bobby Flay are a good bet because of his professional experience.

I think it's sad that more & more of the New FoodTV stars aren't real chefs. I mean Paula & Rachel are good, but I want to see the fancy stuff too. I have made a few of Giada's recipes and was not disappointed. I made an Ingrid Hoffman tamale pie, that I had to "fix" up though.

I think I am going to make a Lemon Lime Chicken tonight. I took out chicken strips and ground turkey last night. Going to make the turkey into chili for lunch tomorrow and Chili Cheese Fries for dinner tomorrow night.

Will bread the chicken strips, then oven fry them and make a sauce with lemon and lime juice, bought bottles of both at the store last night. Serve that with asparagus and cous cous.

Then will make the chili for tomorrow. I keep seeing things about Chili Cheese Fries so I am going to make a low fat version by using the 1/2 gram of fat turkey, black beans, onions, carrots, squash, mushrooms and canned diced tomatoes. I will serve that over oven fries with low/no fat cheese.

Yeah it is.

One of the things they talked about were some of the food combinations these people use, that some of them the flavors just do not go together. :scared:

Glynis- How is Leslie? I am not an advocate of complaining to the school but this is bad. How a teacher could determine that the injury was not enough to notify you and yet put ice on it is ridiculous! That teacher needs a refresher course to say the least. Your poor baby :sad2:. I did like your description of the "America" event. I always got choked up for those songs but now more than ever.

Leslie is doing ok. She can put a little weight on her foot today, so she went to school. I did find out that her regular teacher was gone, so it was a substitute, and she just didn't follow procedure. The principal was really upset about it. When I got to the school this morning with Leslie, he came running out to the van, picked her up in his arms and took her right in to her class. He told me he'd watch out for her today and make sure she got on the bus ok. I'll meet the bus in about 20 minutes and pull her home in the wagon.

The radiologist at the hospital can't figure out the x-rays the clinic took. He thinks there is a fracture though. At this point, we've still got her splinted, and tomorrow we'll take her for more thorough x-rays at the hospital and go from there.

Lindsay- strawberry- rhubarb is an awesome combination. My aunt always kept some rhubarb frozen so that she could make a filling or a sauce.

I love strawberry rhubarb, and am just waiting for my rhubarb to ripen! My mother loves rhubarb, and will eat it raw, like celery, or she will stew it on the stovetop and eat it that way.

Yeah it is.

Yep, I've made a few of Rachel's that the flavors just didn't work. I think the training & experience of the "real" chefs makes quite a difference. I heard they didn't even renew Emeril's contract because they wanted to head in this new (non-chef) direction. Don't know if that's true or not, but I'm just not thrilled with the new cooks or shows, so far. I mean I've made Emeril's recipes & while some may be complicated & difficult, they always right.

There was a really good article in the March issue of Cooking Light. It was about balancing the four classic tastes of sour, sweet, salty & bitter. I didn't realize how clueless I was!

I'm glad tht you found us. Thanks for sharing your review of DL food. I am hoping to work in a trip there this Fall but it is going to be budget budget trip if I manage to go.

I'm not telling DH what it is unless he asks. He's never had tofu and thinks it's gross already.

What he doesn't know may taste good to him. I am a firm believer in keeping ingredients from my DH unless it suits my purpose to tell him.

That is definately me. I just throw stuff in the pan that I want to eat together.

That is how I cook as well. I have never met a recipe that I can follow as written :confused3

I miss the Pro's too. As much as these people are entertaining for a while they do not always come up with recipes that are "doable" in my home. I miss Sara Moulton :sad2: and my all time heroine Julia!

Yeah it is.

It's book club tonight, so dinner has to be fast and easy. So, we are having Poor Man's Stroganoff, green beans and brown rice.

I've got to finish reading the book, too! It's "The Tenderness of Wolves", and it's pretty good, but I haven't had much personal time to read lately. I've still got about 90 pages to go, so hopefully I'll make it by 7:30 tonight.

Glynis, Sorry that your poor girl may have a fracture! I had x-rays at a local urgent care center in Dec. When I took them to the dr., he said they were unreadable & I needed further x-rays.

Having a substitute explains why her injury was handled like that. Glad that the principal took responsibility for that. They need to be sure everyone in the school knows the policies.

I'm glad she's better. Good thing kids are more resilient than their parents. Good luck tomorrow.

I have no idea why a food channel would veer off to non chefs for the better part of their talent. I have made RR recipes too but I need to read all of the reviews to see if the ingredients were changed before I start and even then I monkey around with them.

You had to know when Emeril was moved to 7 PM it was the beginning of his end, and while I was not a fan of Mario Batali, he had plenty. Now he is gone. Sara was gone a long time ago. Yet Sandra Lee is alive and well :scared:

:upsidedow Yep, that is strange! :confused3 I was never big on watching Mario, but every single recipe of his that I've made has been wonderful! I think Martha Stewart was quite smart in buying the media portion of Emeril's businesses. Can't wait to see where they go with that!
