The All-New "unofficial" AKL/AKV's Jambo & Kidani FAQ thread.....

I have a question for you AKL experts. We are booked for AKL CL Nov. 30-Dec. 8 but we arrive on the 29th so we need a room only for that first night, we don't land till 6 PM so we don't require much from the room. We were planning on staying at POP that first night but decided it would be better to just stay at AKL to avoid the hassel of moving resorts.

Anyway I am trying to decide between a standard or pool view room for that one night. Not so much worried about the view as it will probably be dark by the time we get to the Lodge anyway but was thinking we would likely be closer to the lobby with a pool view rather than a standard, is that right?

We will be back and forth from the room a good bit since we plan on going to DTD after we check in for dinner and browsing so I don't want to wear everyone out on the first night with a long trek to the room.

Thanks for any help!

LEASH: I would just book the standard room for that night. You will be able to check in very early at AKCl and have access to the lounge in the next morning.

When we stayed in a savanna bunk bed room (NOT club level) in December '09 we had a very weird location on the second floor around the corner from Victoria Falls. It was very rainy and we didn't see many animals AT ALL. It was a short trip and that was the only room category left with an AP discount so I took it, but if all of the savanna bunk bed room are along that hall I wouldn't book it again.

So excited!! DH and I are going to be staying CL in March!!! I was able to call member services and grab a CL studio at 10months. AKV is one of our home resorts and I LOVE IT!! This is our first time staying CL and was wondering if anyone has the menus? I've looked on this thread and the CL thread and no luck.

Also has anyone who has stayed CL at AKL had any dietary restrictions? DH is diabetic and wondering if they will do or have anything there for him. If not not a big deal just wondering if I should mention it or just let it go.

TIA
Vicki

Vicki, We are staying at AKL CL in November and my DH is also a diabetic (insulin dependant). I asked when making some reservations about info on carbs and they told me that they do not have anything printed but if we needed help, to just ask the Chef at the resturants. My DH is good about figuring out carbs in meals but not desserts so we will just ask when we need to. Sue:yay:

I did a search and I just want to be sure I understand correctly...... the only rooms that have a King bed are the studio villas? Is that what they're called? So basically, if we have a standard savanna view booked (no CL, no DVC) then there's no chance of us getting a king bed, right? We're both really tall, and even sharing a queen is tough for us, so I thought I'd check. Thanks!

I don't know which of the regular AKL rooms have king beds, but, I do know that the studio villas do not.

Thanks! We have a standard savanna view, so I called today and she said she would add it as a request, so I'm guessing there are king savanna rooms that exist :confused3

 Okay, I don't want to end up in a bad room which actually cost more than a standard Savannah View! SHould we just opt for a pool view or something? What chance would I have of getting a Savannah View Standard if wait listed... This is the only bad thing about getting upgraded to FD (had to arrive a day earlier) and lost our Savannah View room. :confused3

We had a lot of issues trying to get a king bed at akl. They told us less than 10% of rooms have a king and they are a poular request at akl. Additionally a good number of king rooms are handicapped accessible so they are only sometimes open for regular use. They do have plenty of 2 queen bed rooms which is what we ended up
With.

Hi Caitsmama, I emailed IPO last weekend, and they confirmed that all concierge rooms overlook the Arusha Savannah. Hope this helps!

To clarify:

All AKL concierge rooms have a savannah view.

About half of the AKV concierge rooms have a savannah view.

Thanks!! We are not DVC members, so this would be regular AKL... as i said, we currently have a Savannah view -- but want to switch to CL, but don't want to lose our SV.

I'd like to be as close to the bus stop as possible. We have a standard, pool view, AKL room. Should I request Giraffe Trail? Will we have a good view of the pool there? :confused3

There are very few King w/ Daybed rooms at the Jambo House... and a majority of them will be wheelchair accessible and priority is given to those with special needs over those who do not. Most will have either a roll-in stand-up shower with bench or a tub with extra handrails.

There are King w/ Daybed rooms in ALL categories at Jambo House, but like I said... there isn't very many of them. There are King w/ Daybed rooms in Standard, Pool, and Savanna views and they on a request-basis only.

Again, they are only a request. You cannot book a King bed room at any of the Values or Deluxe properties (only Moderates), regardless of what Expedia or any other online booking site, your travel agent, your friend, or pretty much anything online says. It is a request and it always bears repeating over and over that requests are never guaranteed.

Giraffe Trail is short, which is nice, and there's also a door that leads outside towards the bus stop as well (it's sorta an emergency exit but it is not locked and is not alarmed). Giraffe Trail only has Standard and Pool Views... and the Pool View there is excellent as are the Pool View rooms in Zebra.

All regular Lodge Club Level rooms are automatically Savanna Views... they are "standard" for the room category. They all overlook Arusha Savanna, which is the old main savanna before they opened up Kidani Village and it is the circular one (where you can see the entire savanna from your balcony, as opposed to a section of savanna like with the other ones). Those rooms are all on the fourth floor and are spread all over Kudu and Zebra Trails (and it's the rooms with the "best" views of Arusha).

DVC Club Level villas (there's only five two-bedroom lock-offs that can be split into Deluxe Studios and One-Bedrooms) can either be Pool or Savanna Views overlooking Sunset Savanna, but I feel that the views aren't that great. You do get the benefit of being in a villas with Club Level amenities (the AKL at Jambo is the only DVC Resort that offers that) though.
