YAY just discovered this thread. before reading 171 pg's of post thought I'd just ask this. Will be staying at Jambo House in Sept. :cool1: I was wondering about the lunch menu @ the pool bar. can anyone give me a link to the menu or is it just ordered off from the room service menu?:beach:

No. No food. They do have potato chips for sale sometimes popcorn::

There's a pool bar at Kidani. Called Maji.

At Jambo, the Mara quick/counter service restaurant is just steps from the pool. We've gotten lunch items and packed them in our pool bag and taken them to our lounge chairs. Also, there are tables and chairs with umbrellas by the pool bar. You could grab something from Mara and sit there and eat.

A little sunshine, ppl laughing and having fun, drink in hand and food from Mara........sounds like a great resort day,:cloud9:

If we have time may even walk over to Maji to soak in some of their atmosphere.:cool2:

now how do I quote more then one post in my post cause I really wanted to thank you each individually...but I don't have the talent.:rotfl:

Easy: do you see the little "+" next to the "Quote" button? Click that for every post you want to quote and once you have collected all hit the "Reply" button on the end of the page. :goodvibes

Hi! We received the 20/30/30 PIN  and are noticing that we can book at the AK for about the same price as a moderate :goodvibes We're debating between standard and pool view (can't really afford savanna view and not really sure we're that concerned about it.) Our big thing is the convenience of location, and we saw (the last time we were there and walked around the resort) that many of the savanna view rooms are really far away from the busses.

If we choose 'standard' view we would either be on Ostrich Trail or Giraffe Trail on the side facing out to the parking lot, right? What are the rooms above the lobby area considered to be?

Thanks so much!!

A friend of mine did exactly what you are considering. For an extra $20 or so a night, she upgraded to AKL Pool View vs. POFQ. If it were me, I would go with the pool because it is very pretty and a much better view than a parking lot. If convenience is a concern, ask to be close to the bus stop and lobby. Good luck!

There are actually standard view rooms located on all the wings. There are lots of obscured views that are considered standard. On our last visit our standard room was a great location near the "secret" bus door and right off the lobby but it was very quiet. We also had an obscured pool view which was lots of greenery and a pond.

OK, there is a bit of confusion over the CL rooms. It depends upon whether you have a "regular hotel CL room" or a DVC CL room. The "regular hotel CL rooms" are all savannah view. However if you have a DVC CL room either via DVC or CRO, then the room can be either Pool view or Savannah view.

Thanks for pointing this out!

Thanks so much!! Here's the breakdown with our deal if we go after July 18 (value season for AK )

6 nights, room only

Coronado Springs standard view $808.50
AK standard view $864.00 ($55.50 more, $9.25 per night)

Coronado Springs water view $913.50
AK pool view $900.00 (COSTS LESS!!)
AK savanna view $1116 ($202.50 more, $33.75 per night)

*Not to mention that the weekend nights at CSR cost more, but they don't at AK :)
*Looks like Pool View would be the best value in comparison.

Go for the pool view - convenient to everything (food, lobby, etc. - and the Uzima Savannah) - and a nice view (even if obstructed by some trees ... much better than a parking lot!) - a bargain for an extra $10 a night!!

Have a wonder-filled trip!!

Thanks!! Now to do some convincing with my husband. He's sold on Pop because we really don't spend that much time in our rooms, but he's 6'5" and I'm 5'9" and I'm sorry, but a double bed just doesn't cut it :)

Pop Preferred comes out to be $244.80 less than pool view for the 6 nights (or $40.80/night.) His argument is that it's almost the value of all of our food for the 6 days and we'd still have to take busses everywhere like you do at Pop. True! But it's only $40 more per night to go from a value to a deluxe!!!! (insert pouty face here, haha!)

We stayed at Pop our first trip onsite and loved it. Then we stayed at AKL our 2nd trip onsite. We'll never go back to Pop! We are too spoiled now :lmao: That is such a small price difference in the scheme of Disney so if you can easily afford it go for it!!

Thanks!! I'll tell him you said it's ok :cool1: As you can see from my signature, we've stayed all over, but haven't really done a Pop trip for a few years because we've had free APs and have only had to pay for our room. We're spoiled now too!

To quote my wife, about 1/2-hour after we walked into the AKL our first time staying here:

"That's it - I'm spoiled - I can't stay anywhere else!"

The extra $240 is worth it ...

Hi Thumper! Right here on the dis there's a list of all the restaurants and I got the link: http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/diningdetail.cfm?Restaurant.ID=291

They only list drinks though :sad2: Hopefully someone else who has been can confirm what kind of food is served :)

As far as I know, Jambo House ppol bar does not offer any food, but The Mara, the CS restaurant, is just next to the pool.

After a little more research I discovered that Maji pool bar (@ Kidani) does offer room service at their pool. http://www.aklresort.com/content/room-service

So I've been searching to no avail. Are there microwaves in the rooms? I haven't seen any in any pictures I've seen. If not are they available for a fee?TIA

I would call CRO and request one, when I visited in 2005 I had one in my standard view room and before I upgraded my ressie for this November to a 1 bdrm villa, I had a request for one for the standard room I had booked. I was not told no and they took the request :confused3 can't hurt to ask ;)

Depends on if you are staying in cash room or on points in a DVC room. All DVC rooms have microwaves/kitchens, even the studios have kitchenettes with microwave and sink.

I don't know many 6'5" guys who can eat at WDW for only $40 per day... much less two people! You can get two of the cheaper CS combos for maybe $10 per person, so if you only eat two CS combos per day you could do the $40...

For the price there is absolutely no comparison. :thumbsup2
