Yes there are however they floated over them due to the amount of water and the waves. 3 months rain fell in 2 hours!! The streets looked like a river on the news. The level of water in the street was half way up the houses!! Many villagers had to be air lifted from their houses out of their up stairs windows!

It is no where near me it is at the very bottom end of England (the pointy bit in the bottom left side of the country) I live in the midlands no where near the sea (about an hour and 15 mins from the coast.) However my parents have a holiday home on the east coast and I grew up there at weekends all through my childhood. We didn't go much in the winter except to check it was OK and had no wind damage. I remember there the sea front was often shut off because the waves were so big. One day we were allowed to drive across and the waves were so big they landed on the car as we were driving. Never again, it was scary.

Good morning all!

I'm a mean ball of frustration this morning

RANT (You've been warned...skip if you want to)

Someone from Jordan's school called at the beginning of August and asked if I would be the class room mother. Seeing how I'm already Chair of 3 school committees, I called back and left a message that I was honored to be asked but would not be able to do it. This morning, there's a message on my machine thanking me for accepting the job as room mother.....what the heck? I felt bad enough turning it down the first time..now I've got to turn around and do it all over again.....aren't there any other mothers who are willing to step up and take this responsibility? I know I'm a stay-at-home-mom but sometimes I feel I'm doing way more than my share and of course NOT getting paid for it Not to mention the huge SPREE! event in Oct which has nothing to do with school...Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...............

I'm already knee deep in other stuff - I WILL NOT VOLUNTEER! I WILL NOT VOLUNTEER! I have been on the phone all day for almost a week now and have a meeting EVERY night this week and am pulling my hair out....

Wooooo......I feel better now....thanks for letting me rant

I'd be pissed too. Don't feel guilty, it sounds like you do more than your fair share. Who's the idiot that said you had accepted?

CADSMOM it is called selective hearing. They heard what they wanted to hear. Call them back and tell them you left a message that you cannot volunteer due to other school commitments. Make no apologies. You are doing a lot already!!!

you reminded me of a story of being a SAHM. When we got snow days etc, all the moms on the street would call and ask me to watch their kids so they could go to work etc because I "didn't work" it took a few times for me to get smart and say "NO, I've got plans with my kids" It would irk my dh horribly when I would watch tons of other kids. Heck, the moms never even sent a snack with their kids. It was the price I paid for living on base and not working outside the home. Oooo now I'm pissed again!! hehehe

Deadheadbelle, I heard a rumor once that they got all of the kids left on the Jungle cruise and glued them into Small World... I wonder if since they are doing the rehab..... Bwaahaahaaahaaa right back atya...

Room Mom's or parent.. organize the parties - games, food etc.. make sure that there are enough parents on the school field trips, organize the class gifts for the teacher for Xmas, teacher appreciation week and end of year. In the grades that has centers or parent volunteers for reading, making folders, cutting the stuff for projects, xeroxing, etc. They make sure that each spot is filled with a parent to come into the classroom and help the teacher.

Ususally there are 2 room parent.. so the work gets divided.. It is great fun and very rewarding as you get to be in the classroom and observe and participate..
