The ALL NEW Disney's Contemporary Resort & Bay Lake Tower FAQ with PICs! (July 2011)

We're going to the CR this year after two years at the BC and have heard some of the same things. Frankly, we think having a MK view room is the best theming a hotel could possibly have, and the walk to MK is perfect for how we do the parks. Maybe it's because I stayed there as a 5 year old, but the CR to me is a quintessential WDW hotel. Plus, it has Chef Mickey's and some great stores right there, which is plenty of Disney for me.

I might give them that the pool isn't as great as, say, Stormalong Bay, but I bet our kids still have a blast there anyway.

Stay with the CR because it makes you happy. Your friend can stay elsewhere and have a great time on her next vacation.

My thought's exactly! What more could you ask for. I almost edited my post after reading it this morning. It wasn't ment to be such a rant. I know everyone has their favorite place, and I don't want anyone to think I was bashing any of the other Resorts. I would love to visit them all if I could!

Has anyone staying at BLT (cash reservation, not points, if that matters) shipped a box ahead? Were you charged to receive it? I ask because I know the "convention" hotels charge a fee, but I'm not sure if BLT qualifies, since it's DVC but connected to Contemporary (a convention hotel).

Thought I'd come to the Contemporary fans for some support. I have been reading, & researching for several months. I've done the pros & cons, no doubt about it hands down... I have my heart set on the Contemporary! I have a friend who has been to WDW several times, but never stayed at the Contemporary. So I take her advice with a grain of salt. She has visited the CR! And.. she does not care for it at all, & it appears she is trying to get me to change my mind! LOL Not gonna happen! CR just screams "magic" for me. She says the decor is blah & not disney like the other resorts. She says the pool is not as cool as the others. I told her it didn't matter what she said it wouldn't change my mind. She also showed me the price diffrence, & said I'm paying so much just for the view. Then I told her that's exactly what I want. I love the MK view! Waking up & seeing the castle, going to bed at night & seeing the fireworks. The short 10 minuet walk, or monorail. I told her that several people really love the CR.. not that I'm trying to change her mind! lol I'm still just as excited about the CR as I ever was! But in the end I know everyone has their own opinion.. & we aren't all going to like the same things, & that's okay.

Well when looking at other threads on here your friend isn't the only one who doesn't like the Contemporary for how it looks, the design of it's pools and etc. However at least there are people like you who still like it no matter what and will always defend it. Plus I say the more people who don't like it great, that means more rooms will be available for those that enjoy staying there.

I believe that same rule about being charged to pick up items at the convention center applies to those staying at Bay Lake Tower. Don't forget their full name is Bay Lake Tower At Disney's Contemporary Resort, so basically they are an extension of the Contemporary and the same rules applies to guests staying there.

The package center will be the same so you will get charged. We had the same thing when staying at BCV last summer. We bought a new double stroller off Amazon and had it shipped directly. We were charged $15 (the charge is based on weight). The flip side is that the guy at the package center was super nice and helped us assemble the stroller and took care of throwing out the packaging for us. (Believe it or not a new double stroller was cheaper than renting one for a week!)

We're buying/renewing APs for our upcoming trip (my DH and I had APs that expired so we're buying new ones and my kids' APs don't expire until August so we're renewing those). We're staying at BLT. I've purchased the APs already and have the vouchers. I also want to buy a TIW card. Where is the closest location to BLT where I can do this? Do I have to go to the TTC? We will have a car if that makes a difference.
(We'll have a bit of a time crunch because our flight lands at 2pm and we have dinner ADR at Chef Mickey at 5:20 and I'd love to have my TIW card before dinner!)

When we stayed at BLT in March we just walked over to Guest Relations at the Magic Kingdom. Exchanged our vouchers and got our TIW card and then walked back to our ADR at the Wave.

We stayed in a Magic Kingdom view and have pictures of our room and view if anybody would like me to post them. Our room was on the 10th floor above Chef Mickey's. The noise did not bother us at all and we thought we liked the view from our room better than the view from the 4th floor observation deck. Only problem was that the girl who checked us in typed my phone number wrong into the computer so i did not get the text message about my room being ready. When I went to ask they said my room had been ready for over an hour. But that little setback would not stop me from staying there. I cant wait to stay there again!!!

Does anyone have the convention schedule for Novermber?

We are staying at the CR from 11/11 - 11/15 and all the rooms in the tower are sold out except a suite. I know it is Jersey Week but it has been sold out since the beginning of July. Wonder if there are any conventions scheduled there.
