It looks like we're returning to the Contemporary sooner than I expected! We had a wonderful stay in a one bedroom at BLT the week before Labor Day. For Marathon Weekend we were planning to try GF (at my DH's request). We've had a few unexpected expenses, including a leaky roof, and decided to cut back a bit. I switched us to garden wing at CR. We're arriving on Thursday, January 5th and leaving on Monday, January 9th. My kids are running the kid races on Friday, DH is running his 1st half marathon on Saturday, and I'm running my 1st marathon on Sunday.
I didn't know how my kids would feel about the switch but they are universally thrilled to be returning to "the hotel with the monorail going through it." :thumbsup2

Martin: I just love your CR photos - thank you for posting them. I think it's interesting that the three rooms above yours (on the Atrium Club level) don't have any chairs:confused3

When are you going back to WDW? Will you stay at the CR again?

Amanda: How exciting and good luck! You'll have to get a new ticker;)

I looked for this information on this thread and I apologize if its somewhere and I missed it. What time does the Contempo Cafe close? Just curious. Thanks!

Thanks for the great info. I have 10 and 1/2 months to go but a girl can dream.

I did not see that until I got the pictures home on my 26" monitor. Quite odd; maybe that explains why our room was so quiet.

There were also two vertical strips of rooms draped from the top floor to the bottom on the outside of the Bay Lake side of the tower. Looked like room numbers 21&22. Lots of workers in orange vests, too. Possibly painting???

I don't know when we'll be back. I am looking at a cruise for next year and we absolutely must attend the inaugural United States Grand Prix in Austin, TX next November. Then I'd like to go back to Disneyland to see Cars Land in California Adventure and my sister. We could always do shorter trips now that we live only 3 hours and 15 minutes away.

I loved the CR but want to give the Poly another try. The last time I stayed there was with my family when I was 16 in 1975. So many choices, so little time (and money). ;)

I am at my 45 day out point and made a last minute change. We were booked in BLT, but with no pins or offers. As much as I hated to let that reservation go, CR had rooms open with the FD and it was too much savings to pass up!

We've stayed at Poly twice and it was work in planning which longhouse/room to request, but so happy we did. For Contemporary, we have a Bay view room- and after doing a little reading, I'm not sure there is any "good/bad" location at the Contemporary? I would have loved a MK view, but there weren't any available. Does anyone know if there are any BV rooms that you can "lean over a little" to see the fireworks?? LOL We had that with our Poly GV room once and it worked well enough! Trying to figure out what a good request might be (if it's even needed)!

Poly had a site (tikiman pages) that gave you reviews on pretty much every single room so you knew the pros/cons to each when requesting (You could only request a room, not a location from my experience). I haven't found such a site for Contemp. Does anyone know if one exists?

Thank you!!

I'm very excited to try something new!

OUCH! BLT at rack rate?! I think you definitely made the right call using some sort of discount and I don't think you'll be disappointed with the CR.

Tower/BLV is our favorite WDW resort view. We prefer it over MKV because we don't like seeing a parking lot below us and prefer the tranquility of Bay Lake and we like seeing the EWP. (And, it's less expensive and if you stay CL, you can see Wishes from the CL lounge anyway;)).

These are the only requests you would need to consider when booking a BLV room (or a MKV room):

~Might the "celebration song" at CM bother you? If so, ask to be "far away from Chef Mickey's".

~Do you prefer a high floor or do heights bother you?

~Would you like your beds (as you sit in them) to face toward Epcot/FW and away from BLT? If so, then request an odd numbered room.

~Would you prefer not to have a connecting door?

You can't see Wishes from the BLV rooms, however, you can see some of Epcot's Illuminations off to the right beyond FW and you can see the EWP every night at around 10:05.

There is no "bad" Tower room view. That's one of the great things about the CR is that when you book a Tower room, your view is guaranteed to be either MKV or BLV. And, unlike the Poly, you don't have to worry about trees obstructing your view or whether you'll have a balcony or two sinks:goodvibes

Now all you need is a nice CR ticker!

Having a full size balcony for every room in the Tower is one major reason I would always choose the Contemporary over the Polynesian.

Thanks! These were all shot with my new Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX100V ultrazoom camera; I absolutely love it.

I'll post some more tomorrow...

Martin - Beautiful photos of CR! Thanks for shareing :) Did you request the 11th floor or just get lucky? I requested a high floor when I booked our March stay but I think I am going to call back and change that request to the 11th floor and cross my fingers.

I made no requests. I booked a Tower MK view room and would have taken any they gave us. We were extremely happy to be on the 11th floor, in an odd numbered room, and close to the elevator, too.

Sorry I didn't get around to posting more pictures today but I got sidetracked. Here is kind of an artsy one to tide everyone over until tomorrow...

The bath was modern and stylish but the sinks look better than they function:

I agree the sinks are really bad. I've had more usable counter space on some cruises. I'm glad for our BLT stay in April that they used different sinks there.
Great pics overall! Thanks for posting!

Martin - I love being up high when possible at a hotel, I am not a CL person but if $ was not an issue would book CL just to be guarenteed being on a high floor.

psac - The design of the sinks is the one thing I do not care for about the decor of the CR.
