Today, Jason Garcia of the Orlando Sentinel (the reporter CRRF4L and I frequently quote/link to on the Rumors and News forum) posted this to my "resort merchandise" thread that I quoted from on here yesterday. I thought maybe someone on this thread could help him out:

"Hi folks,

I cover Walt Disney World for the Orlando Sentinel and I'm thinking of writing a story on this topic. (Just realized the other day, for instance, that Disney appears to have stopped selling the yearly hotel-themed Christmas ornaments.)

If any of you would be interested in talking about this -- whether to potentially be quoted in a story or just to provide examples of hotel-specific merchandise that is now longer being sold -- I'd love to hear from you. I can be reached at 407-420-5414 or jrgarcia AT orlandosentinel.com (note the middle initial in the email address....and apologies for posting it so weirdly, have to do it because of the message board filters).

Thanks for your time,
jason"

Thanks for posting that.

I would request an odd-numbered room so that your bed will face toward the MK. If you think that the noise from CM's might bother you, then you could also add, "Far from Chef Mickey's" to your location request.

Have a great stay at the CR!

I didn't know that you could request certain rooms. I am staying at the Contemporary in 2 weeks and I will definitely try and request an odd numbered room. Great advice.

I think it was worth the extra money and I hope you have a great time. Also since I will be there from Aug 10 - 20, maybe I will see you around there?

Thanks! Maybe we'll run into each other! :thumbsup2

Personally, I think it is way worth it to stay in the tower. We are also doing a Bay Lake view this summer. The nice thing is, in the tower, you just have to go to the 4th floor for CS breakfast, coffee, snacks, drinks etc. When you get off the monorail, it is just an elevator ride to your room. It is not that the wing is "far", it is just a little less convenient (except to the pool).
Since you have the 40% off this is a great opportunity to stay in the tower. At least that is my justification!!

The only difference between the wing and the tower is location. The rooms are the same size and decor. It is possible to request a Bay Lake View in the wing, both those rooms are the furthest from the tower. We stayed in the wing last year and liked it alot. It was quiet and easy access to the tower. We are trying the tower this time, but with a MK View. The view is more important to us than the location (unfortunately the only way to get a MK View at the CR is to stay in the tower)

Good luck with your decision! :wizard:

Thanks for the advice, guys! Good to hear 2 different sides. We're sticking with Tower for now because we want to be in the midst of it all and the deal makes it really affordable compared to what it would have been. :woohoo:

Congratulations on your upgrade to Deluxe. I was one who responded to your CSR vs. CR post the other day. I also noticed that you said your budget only allowed the CR GW and you would love the Poly and GF if you could afford. I am only trying to help here as I am staying at the CR and looking forward to it. However, I have stayed at the Poly and GF and liked them very much as well. If you have gone from CSR to a Tower room at the CR you have made a huge jump in $$$$. Therefore, you could easily go to Poly, GF or CR. Just some food for thought. Like I said, not knocking the CR. Staying there myself next month, but look at all of your options now that you have decided to spend more money than you originally intended.

Have an awesome vacation!

Haha, thanks so much for keeping up with me and helping me out! Surprisingly enough, even with the room upgrade at CR it's still a bit cheaper than ending up at GF or Poly. And besides, we're starting to get hyped up and plan around CR, it's really ended up being the best choice for us out of the three. Everything falls into place I suppose! :)

Now, if I suddenly get a CRAZY good deal for GF, I may have to reconsider. But I doubt that will happen. :goodvibes

So excited. We're going with my sister and her husband to Disney soon to celebrate their first anniversary. A theme park view room came available this afternoon with the passholder discount and I was able to snatch it up for them (we had Bay Lake view rooms booked).

It's their first stay at the Contemporary and their first club level stay. Now it'll be a MK view one. Yay!!!

Quick question...how long of a walk is it from BLT to the Grand Canyon Concourse at the Contemporary? Pictures are deceiving...

Thanks!

Hi folks.

I am just a little bit wondering. I am dreaming about spending the nights in a Disney World Vacation at the Contemporary Resort. But it would be too expensive for me. But now I found a german, very famous travel-homepage.

When I take a party of 4 in August in the Garden Wing Standard View, so the cheapest category, it says that I would only have to pay 55 Euros each night and person, thats something like 67 $.

That is so much cheaper than in all the travel-catalogues and homepages here in Germany. And: I am able to book Tower Rooms with Magic Kingdom View, too. I've never seen that here on a german homepage, even travel agencys couldn't help me in finding prices for that rooms.

When I would travel with a party of 4 again in August, I would only pay about 69 Euros, thats ca. 85 $ each person each night.

Is that possible??

(sorry for all my grammar-mistakes...)

Yes I think that is possible. If I understand what you are asking... standard view would be 55EUR per night and magic kingdom view would be 69EUR per night per person. depending on when you are traveling of course. I checked the rates at disneys site and the difference between the 2 room types is $62USD per night at the current discounted rates offered. so i think that is quite possible.good luck :)

I would guess it depends on how long you need to wait for the elevator that goes to the 5th floor of Bay Lake Tower, since that is where the skybridge is located.

Yes you can make a reservation for the Tower - Magic Kingdom View.

Hi everyone - We just returned from a great trip at BLT. We stayed 5 nights in a 2BR villa and it really was awesome! What a nice place and location.

I was just looking back at the last few pages and saw the map that was posted. It got me to wonder about room 5103 in the garden wing. Does anyone know what type of room this is? A suite I'm sure, but not sure if there are different types of suites. We've stayed in 5107 before and thought it was a PERFECT location - patio, close to pool, close to tower... I'd for sure go for a garden wing room again if I could be sure I'd get 5105-5109... :)

Thanks!

Thanks for posting your review and I think this is the answer to your question. The following Garden room numbers are Garden Wing Deluxe Rooms 5109, 5209, 5309. So is that what you were asking about?

Glad to hear you enjoyed it. We are staying in a 2-bedroom in just a couple of weeks and are very excited - first time at BLT :cool1: Do you have any pics to share? Or any tips for those of us going soon? Thanks :cutie:

Does BLT offer the refillable resort mug? Is it good for coffee refills? I read in a 2009 travel book that some resorts have these and it said pop and coffee. This was the first time I have seen anything about coffee, and just wishing it is true. Has anyone done this?
