Next Question: I have been making my ADRs and was wondering for people who stay at CR where do you typically go for dinner? So far most of the meals I have booked are at the MK (CRT), CR (Chef Mickey), Poly (Ohana & Kona Cafe) and GF (1900 Park Fare B & D) and Epcot (Teppan Edo & Tutto Italia). I was thinking of adding Jiko or Yaughtmen, Fulton's (NOt sure where Y & F are), but how do you like getting over to AK or the other locations from CR for dinner that are not on the monorail loop?
Well since my family and I always stay Club Level on most nights we like to have the hot food offerings in the lounge, however if we don't eat up there hear are the places we like to go and two of these restaurants are located offsite.

Earl of Sandwich, Contempo Cafe, Gasparilla's Grill & Games, Kona Island Sushi Bar, Cheese Cake Factory and Bonefish Grill.

lumpy08,
Incase you didn't see this on the 1st page of the thread, here is an updated map of the Contemporary with just the South Garden Wing and Bay Lake Tower.

I have come to this thread to ask the help of all you CR fans....I think I've decided to do CR MK view over doing the GF garden view because CR is one of the only resorts mom and me have never been to. I need advice on anything you want to give advice on...if you have a favorite spot to go or room number or anything that you would suggest for us that'd be great! This is a surprise trip for mom's 55th birthday so i want to make it special! :wizard:

Well if you want to stay as high as possible I would recommend requesting the 11th floor because it's the highest non Club Level floor in the Tower. Also if you request an odd numbered room because your beds will face the Magic Kingdom, so it can be the first thing you see every morning when you wake up.

Wouldn't mom want us to think she was turning 30?

I would book a dinner for her at CA Grill. Ask them to book it for a time that would coincide with Wishes. You can even order a personalized :cake: ahead of time or you can order a small one at the podium when you check-in.

I would also advise against ever requesting specific room numbers. The resort receives your booking information about 5 days prior to you arrival. The room assigner then assigns your room. If you request a room number and it's not available then the RA doesn't know why you requested that room and has a harder time fulfilling your request. Best to request something like:

"High floor, away from Chef Mickey's, odd numbered room."

The odd numbered room will have beds facing toward the castle and if the CM noise might bother you early AM, then I would request to be far from it.

What a great present for mom - she's going to love it! Keep us updated:)

Where do you like to spend more time- EPCOT/DHS or MK? For us, we spend about 50% of our time at MK and the other 50% split between the other 3 parks (therefore a longer stay at CR would make more sense). If not, a 50/50 split would work.

Not to make things worse, but what about an AKL/CR split then? 3-4 days at AKL (SV) and the rest at CR BLV? Since you have a car, you don't need to worry about being far away (plus, the remoteness actually adds to the charm of the resort). And save the YC split for when DH is back.

I'm really not helping am I??? :lmao: I am going to watch Y&R instead and see what kind of trouble Billy and Victoria can get into today instead of causing more of my own

OK, you're a bigger trouble-maker than Jack and Glo combined...

Don't we need to test drive YC before we subject DH to it? I can only handle AKL for a couple of nights, but then I'm back to my 3 resorts in 10 days - do we need to stay longer?:rotfl:

I don't think its remoteness adds to its "charm"; I don't want to forget that I'm actually at WDW. Why did they not even build a walkway to the AK from AKL? Something's not right over there:sad2:

Thanks, that's great advice! What about restaurants in the CR? Pros and cons to any of them?

Well the only restaurants in the Contemporary that I have been to is Chef Mickey's and the Contempo Cafe which is their counter service location. It's been a while since I was at Chef Mickey's for dinner, but I remember thinking their food was good and the character interaction was great. As for the Contempo Cafe that happens to be one of my favorite counter service locations in all of WDW, so I would highly recommend going there.

We really liked Chef Mickey's but we didn't like the Contempo Cafe for supper. Maybe I expected more from the reviews on this site but neither my husband or I enjoyed the food.

Well that's why WDW has a lot of restaurants and counter service locations, because not everyone will like them.

Ouch!!!

OK, what about 3 nights YC CL, and then book the AK safari that is open to CL guests, and the other nights at CR BLV. You get both hotels, DD still gets to see the animals in a unique way, and you still end up at the CR...

I couldn't agree more about the Contempo. I honestly thought I was eating cardboard when I ordered the flatbread :sad2:

But they do just fine for breakfast.

Our favorite CR restaurant is Cali Grille. We are actually eating there twice this next trip. Great flatbreads, DH loves the sushi, and we all like the view! I am REALLY hoping the Bison is still on the menu come June :wizard:

I have never tried the Wave (menu doesn't appeal to me- I don't want "healthy food" when I am on vacation! :rotfl:)

We like Chef Mickey's for breakfast (eating here twice too) but we stay FAR away from buffets for dinner. (Lone exception is the Biergarten in EPCOT, but even then it is just for ambiance and the beer! :rolleyes1)

I think we split a burger at the Sand Bar for lunch last year while were at the pool, but I don't remember much about it.

HTH!

I forgot to say the only thing I didn't like at the Contempo Cafe was their Cheeseburger however it had to do with the type of bun they serve it on, which is actually worse then the wheat buns available at all the other counter service locations. If anyone else on here has ordered it before you know exactly what I am talking about.

Hi
this is a question about Bay Lake Towers. What floor should I request. I have a 1 bdrm villa standard view. I have a dd4 and ds2 coming with, so I will have a stroller. I would like to have an easy way to get to CR for food and monorail! Thanks:cool1:

The skybridge is on the 5th floor of BLT and leads to the 4th floor of the CR.

Here is the link to the BLT Rooms and Views thread. It's a wonderful resource for choosing your location:

Have a great vacation!

Okay that's is why I was driving myself crazy... I was looking at my map from when we stayed at CR in 08 and it wasn't on there. (We were there during construction of BLT). I must have been looking at an old map and was just thinking they added another wing with the BLT.

Has anyone stayed in GW GV in room 05-15 or rooms 16-27. I am thinking 05-15. Just wondering what the noise level with the pool. I am also assuming it is a quicker walk to the tower. Can anyone direct me to any pictures of the outside of South GW GV rooms.

Where is the Kona Island Sushi Bar located?
